Just want to give review of MXQ Pro III.

For newbies like me, maybe looking for cheaper option for start. And this model is selling quite a lot in online marketplace and at a very cheap price too. I got mine at RM117.

1GB RAM, 8GB flash.

For starters it is a decent device. But since the ram is low, it tends to crash now n then.

If you're using iflix, it is still capable to be used for streaming. But for KODI and others that might require more RAM, it often hang and crash when opening the channel.

So, if you're a beginner and looking for device, I suggest skip this one and just look for 2GB models. It will be more reliable.

As for me, most of the time only using iflix, so it is still bearable.

Head over to the Minix forums.. Download the latest official firmware and perform a "clean" flash via PC.

Bought this 2G/8G S905 box MX IV.

First thing I did when received the box: Dismantle! Haha…

Wifi antenna is just a wire attached with an antenna sticker.

What I not satisfy is it doesn't come with any heatsink on chip, so I mod it by adding a small heatsink.

The internal looks (not my pic):

The remote sucks too, luckily I bought a Logitech K400 Plus for it.

So far no problem but I doubt if got any better common firmware could be flashed to it. I found a new firmware on Aliexpress sales page posted by a seller and the firmware is to fix wifi issue. Since I got no problem with my wifi so I am not taking risk to flash the new firmware.

updated to the firmware found on aliexpress, ntg change because it is same with the stock firmware.

problem so far can't adjust brightness in setting, no dts, internal memory quite slow (25 read 11 write only). boring generic launcher, GUI not nice but logical and practical. no pull down notification and no navigation bar.

good thing is 3 usb ports at side, appreciate that for convenience. another otg port which i never use. green led when on red when off, luckily not too bright. old S905 chip although no ota update, it still comes with quite new firmware [p201-userdebug 5.1.1 LMY47V 20160902 release-keys], kernel is dated 20161007.

wifi and lan speed no test. used the box to surf internet, play local media file, youtube and stream RICE and HDPTV only.

Sekian.

Could it be bcos you have too many addons that comes default with the device? If you are only using for movies, dramas and some sports, maybe you'd like to limit them to only 10 addons or so, then uninstall the rest to improve your user experience

most of those china tv box doesn't decode dts and ac3 with the pre-installed video player or mx player.

for those who don't use kodi or spmc, you can add custom codec to mx player so that you can watch the movie by software decoding the dts and ac3. (i think it just downmix to 2.0 and no bitstream, i got no av amp to test it out).

tutorial here:

wonder why no body share this here.

Cuz there's no need to stream/download DTS-ish & larger files only to downmix HD audio back to stereo. Just play the smaller and readily accessible files with stereo sound... Those who possess the proper equipment to play HD audio know we'll to obtain and play em. smile.gif

primarily becos most people don't care about dts/dd since they play audio from tv mainly.

secondarily, before the arrival of cheap boxes, most users go for better known brands that pay for dts/dd, dtshdma and ddtruehd licenses, e.g. himedia, minix.

my 6 yr old ac ryan and 4 yr old himedia can pass thru dtshdma/ddtruehd.

both can do bdmv's nicely too.

both are made in china.

i'm using iptv & apparently it's keep on buffering as & when.. frankly it's really annoying  bangwall.gif
do you think it's because of the version? shakehead.gif

All my free iptv doesn't buffer, its either it plays or not only... Btw my box has 2gb, i used SD Maid from Play Store for mthly maintenance etc
*
my experience with so many of them:

.. paid or free, they will work well if the conditions are satisfied - broadband speed, supportive hardware, iptv owner maintains well, no harassment.

.. netflix is a prime example - u pay, they maintain good, u enjoy.

.. iflix is quite reliable but have a poor library.

.. plenty of evidence in kodi - very common to find a new addon that works like a charm, then die off fast becos the owner doesn't maintain anymore.

.. the numerous free iptv from china shows all can be good if owner maintains well and not get harassed or shut down.

there is more than enough of free good stuff out there. just need to know how to snatch them! laugh.gif

if u have one, pls comment, give yr views.

AC Ryan used to be the #1 media player 6-7 years ago.

i have 2 of them players, still good, well worth the money.

the dutch owners sold the co. to a singapore co. 3-4 years ago, manufacturing still in china.

this veolo 4k.. from what i see in the website:
http://www.acryan.com/veolo-4k-plus/

.. it does not tell what chipset it is using, only quad 2/16gb lollipop.
.. it shows netflix 5.1 - i am skeptical becos it is NOT listed as a certified box in netflix website.
.. i think it has dts/dd pass thru but not dtshdma/ddtruehd
.. price... i think it is rm700 or so?

unless i got it wrong, there are superior boxes for that price.
