Hi, thanks for your reply!  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

1. im using unifi 20mbps, so i guess streaming wont be problem
it should not be a problem, but will depend on:
.. how many users/devices sharing.
.. what router u r using - stock or better one.
.. how stable is the connection in yr area.

2. Use wifi, my modem n router upstairs.
if using poor router, wifi may not be as good as u like.

3. Only english, i dun understand mandarin.
OK.

4. all movies,tv shows if possible. Examples im watching GoT, True detectives, house of cards, mr robot, etc..
these are easy to get in SD, not so difficult in HD. if u plan to subscribe netflix, u get them easily.

5. Yes all sports
this is the tough one. not easy to get live sports, more so in HD. but given time, u can learn how to use an app called KODI where u can get some of them. not all of them, not all in HD, not 100% reliable, but usable.

6. Only HD
i will advise u to lower expectations as u will not get all HD with yr speed. perhaps a mix will be OK?

7. Not sure about audio as I just use TV speaker. Might grab one later...
OK, not need HD audio then.

8. Yes if possible, prefer netflix n HBO
Only netflix available locally and in SD only for most boxes. read up their website, read the Netflix thread.

9. ahem.. yes
for that, u will need to pm or contact sellers privately as open discussion on these illegits are not allowed.

10. If given instructions I think I'll manage to do it
OK, keep in mind such a box is not plug-and-play; need yr time, effort and patience to update, maintain in order to work well.

11. budget rm 300-400. If good android tv box I'll consider bumping a bit budget. rm50 max tho sad.gif
that price range will not get u much. the price of such a box is driven by 1. chipset, 2. memory size, 3. advanced features and brand, support, etc. newer more powerful chips can handle all latest apps; bigger memory allow u to have more apps, less worry on memory full. i will say RM600-700 will get u a good box. RM400... entry level. the most advanced ones cost RM1k or so.

There are like a hundred box makers each with a few models. u can google and read what the world say about them, their brand names, etc.

All said, i suggest u consider MINIX. u may not want the top model now, maybe 2nd or 3rd. there are many minix users here who can help you.

1. Rename subtitle to match video filename and place within the same folder. If you have subtitles enabled in settings, Kodi automatically selects this..
2. During playback.... Select the Audio-Settings icon, then "Browse for subtitles"... This allows you to browse the filesystem for the file needed to display the subtitles.

For future reference, there is a dedicated Kodi thread... Kodi related topics belong there...
*
Tried b4 but not working at all... Even used the "browse file system" take so Long time , browse into local HD that saved downloaded subtitles, those files not show up while click into subtitle folder.

50% discount... there lots of such boxes on sale now.

becos it's 1/8gb, kikat, specs about 2 yrs old. (a current one will be 2/16 lollipop or marhsmallow).

but it will work, likely a bit slow.

can buy as entry level, learn, nothing much to lose.

the presinstalled apps as advertised looks a lot, most popular.

but will be out of date, e.g. kodi is listed as helix 14.2 when it's jarvis 16.1 now.

u just need to update/upgrade the apps, and the firmware.

the shows must be very unique. what are they?

usually it's the other way round - have own video and get subs on kodi.

or find the video and the subs all in kodi.

Hi

I am planning to buy a android box.
Either Himedia H8 octa or Mibox 3 Pro or any other recommended ??
Which one will be better suited?
Main use will be for those aztro, occasional gaming and hd movies.
Will connect only with ethernet and for mibox will buy an ethernet adapter.
Prefer to have Play store as I want to minimize sideloading and have easy app updates.
Also prefer english UI
Also can stream movie and music from file server

Thank you

for a comparison like that, it will take a user who has used both - that can be rare.

users of either one cannot comment correctly on the other without having used it.

a better way may be to:

.. ask questions in himedia thread, ask same questions in mibox thread, compare yourself.
.. ask sellers

for that, you need to install the right chinese repo/addon/program/provider for chinese subs.

just like installing opensubs and subscene for eng subs.

which one and where, u can google.

if u can download the chinese subs elsewhere, u can get the same direct on kodi too.

kodi works in multi language!

Depends on the firmware running on the box.. Though it's not advised due to possible data corruption and crashes.. Unless you plan on installing plenty HD games from the playstore, in which case you should be looking at the Nvidia Shield TV box with a 500GB hard drive... A 16GB eMMC storage should be sufficient.

Oh. Okay... First, are you comfortable with the Himedia way? Then you should wait a couple more weeks for the newer models and real user reviews. Else, come over to the dark side.. Minix Neo U1.. brows.gif

*The Minix "brand" has been around for a couple of years and they stand by their boxes, providing apps and firmware support.
*There's an official forum specifically for Minix owners.
*I've owned the Neo X7, Neo X8-H Plus and now the Neo U1. Each flagship devices and have been satisfied with their performances.

In case you or others were wondering, this is not a sales pitch or some form of blind loyalty to a brand. I do my research each time and allow sufficient time after each device release to gather real world usage data, before pulling the trigger on any of my electronic devices... For more pros and cons, you should read my earlier posts and that of others on the Neo U1 or Neo X8-H Plus. If you have any specific questions pertaining to the Neo U1 that haven't already been answered in previous reviews, I'd be glad to take em smile.gif

I'm currently using the Minix Neo X7 and it's a beast.. Runs smoothly with firmware upgrades + forum support. If you can wait a couple more months, Minix will be releasing the X8 .. Though the X7 is perfectly fine as it even supports 4TB external hard drive.

hi, can you share with me how to upgrade?
