*The Minix "brand" has been around for a couple of years and they stand by their boxes, providing apps and firmware support.
*There's an official forum specifically for Minix owners.
*I've owned the Neo X7, Neo X8-H Plus and now the Neo U1. Each flagship devices and have been satisfied with their performances.

In case you or others were wondering, this is not a sales pitch or some form of blind loyalty to a brand. I do my research each time and allow sufficient time after each device release to gather real world usage data, before pulling the trigger on any of my electronic devices... For more pros and cons, you should read my earlier posts and that of others on the Neo U1 or Neo X8-H Plus. If you have any specific questions pertaining to the Neo U1 that haven't already been answered in previous reviews, I'd be glad to take em  smile.gif
IMO... Ignore.
*
Still looking around tho.

Minix price are quite stiff / should I say ard the price of himedia. might be bcoz due to its support and existance for quite some time ody.

Sry to ank some noobie question here,

Since you've own Neo X7, Neo H8-H and Neo U1, could u juz slightly list their pros and cons ?

Tq very much.

hi, can you share with me how to upgrade?
mine one is original fw, want to have full hd and can access to HDD
i using neo 7 for few year already
thank you

i can see from the photo that it is a jellybean, never upgraded firmware since purchase.
android boxes need upgrades and updates for firmware and apps constantly in order to perform at their optimal levels.
that should be your immediate priority now.
i don't understand what u mean by "want full hd and access to HDD"?
the specs in this box is good, surely be able to do that.
3 yr old box can still work very well!

from kodi thread, u mentioned u hv original xbmc, never upgraded.
oldest xbmc versions won't work with the latest addons versions.
should remove everything xbmc in there, resintall kodi 16.1, rebuild it.
if u r not sure how, u will have to go thru a learning experience.

my view is not to get unknown brands more due to hardware reliability and support.
minix is well known in the int'l market, a hongkong based co., i believe.
himedia is the cream of china based makers, less well known outside china/asia.

a good box with a good chipset and memory size is a fundamental requirement for all to work well.
u also need good stable internet speed, updated firmware, best apps, right settings.
lastly, there are requirements some but not everyone care about - hd audio, 3d, 4k, 10 bit, dual band, etc.
depending on yr needs and wants, choose the right box.
i have no doubt that any "good" box can be made to work well. wink.gif

*To update, follow the instructions herein.. How to update..
*The latest firmware is version 2.5.0, it's Kitkat and was released earlier this year in February. Here's the direct download link. You are to do a fresh install. The download link contains the necessary drivers and flashtool.
*The Minix Neo X7 has HDMI 1.4a and supports full HD output up to 1080p. So depending on your TV and source file, you should get 1080p.
*There are 3 USB 2.0 ports. Simply plug in an external drive to access. Preferably formatted to NTFS.

As mentioned earlier, unlike countless other android manufacturers out there, the Minix team stands by their box and provides support and upgrades. That's the extra price you have to pay, as such don't come cheap. IMO, it's a few extra RM, I'd rather pay for premium hardware & design, a decent firmware and easy to access online support. As for listing pros and cons for the above, I'm sorry, you would have to scan and read through this thread and others, as the information is public. In simpler terms:
U1 > X8-H Plus > X7.

I advised you update via PC to the latest firmware version which is V2.5.0, posted links, help and everything and yet you flashed 010? I also noticed your complaints in the 010 thread over at minix forums and despite the similar response given that you clean flash the latest firmware using a PC, you still ignored it. Well, can't help if one refuses to be helped. Once again:
*Using a PC (MUST), download and perform a clean flash of the latest firmware. Yes, you will lose all apps, settings and data. So might as well perform a factory reset upon boot completion after a successful flash.
*Do NOT use the USB/SD card method.

sony w800c is fairly new, comes with androidtv 5.0 lollipop - that's new too.

what's not good with it?

the "top" boxes i can think of at this time are:

nvidia shield
minix u1
himedia q10/q5 pro

google, u will find them.

hard to compare direct with htpc - op sys, most apps are different.

I'd consider a move from Jelly Bean to Kitkat a significant upgrade. Apps can be re-downloaded and setup again.

There's no direct comparison between 2 completely different OSes. That's like asking what's the difference between OsX and Windows or Linux.. The difference is the "user". The Minix Neo U1 is a decent box. Any higher (price) and you might as well get the Nvidia Shield TV box or an Intel NUC. You could also check out the cheaper Acer Desktop Revo One.

Nvidia shield can be mediaplayer and gaming console rclxms.gif but price is also high.
Ard RM14++ for 16gb and RM18++ for 500gb

I'm still considering MinixU1 and Q10 Pro rclxub.gif
Not yet making up my mind.

Using Q10ii currently, After few years still served me well.

even among the "best" boxes, there are differences, incl price.

your q10ii is about the same as my q5ii but with a hdd slot.

the hardware is reliable, will last u for some time.

but 2/8gb is limited in memory - can't do some apps well e.g. popcorntime and kodi/quasar.

that's where 2/16gb comes in.
