NJOI Prabayar Step-by-step Guide

Purchasing a reload card
Get a reload card from any of the participating dealers on this list or according to some of our forumers, you can also get it from the sellers in our forum's Garage Sales section
Attached Image

Checking balance
1. If you can't remember how much balance you have in your account, you should check the balance first before getting the prepaid card.
Attached Image

2. Get either your IC number or your smart card number:
Attached Image

2. Take out your phone and SMS "000<space><your IC number / smart card number>" to 33310
*note that you do not need to include the hyphens or spaces in your IC or smart card numbers
- Example 1 (IC): 000 821012146815
- Example 2 (smart card #): 000 014000609999
Attached Image

3. You'll receive a SMS informing you about your balance. You can see that my balance is RM0 since I've never topped up before tongue.gif

Topping up
1. Scratch the Prabayar card to get the 16-digit reload PIN
Attached Image
Attached Image

2. SMS "111<space><your IC number / smart card number><space><reload PIN>" to 33310
*note that you do not need to include the hyphens or spaces in your IC or smart card numbers
- Example 1 (IC): 000 821012146815 0139000142135152
- Example 2 (smart card #): 000 014000609999 0139000142135152
Attached Image

3. You'll get a confirmation message once your reload is successful.

Subscribing to a channel
1. If you try to tune in to a Prabayar channel without first subscribing to it, you'll get an error message stating that the channel is not in your subscription. However, since you can purchase channels via NJOI's Service Portal and SMS by yourself, you do not need to contact their customer service.
Attached Image

2. Tune in to channel 200 to access the Astro Service Portal (ASP). Don't worry if you get greeted by a black screen as you might need to wait a while for it to load.
Attached Image
Attached Image

3. You'll see the interface shown below once it has done loading. Navigate to Prepaid TV Channels with the directional buttons your Astro remote and hit the OK button.
Attached Image

4. Then select the channel that you wish to subscribe and hit the OK button again
Attached Image

5. You'll then be asked to confirm your order and be shown instructions on how to proceed with the subscription of the channel
Attached Image

6. Reach for your phone again and follow the exact instructions shown at the order confirmation screen by sending the SMS "NJM<space><code><space><code><space><code>" to 33888
* note that the number (33888) that you should send the SMS to is different than the number (33310) that is used for topping up and checking balance.
Attached Image

7. Wait for the confirmation SMS. After that you can finally watch the channel which you've just subscribed to rclxm9.gif

Thanks se7en,

I also got the news from that link smile.gif

But still it doesn't explain about any registration fess except that our decoder box must be in good condition.

Normal NJOI have to pay nearly RM400 to activate because new customer have to purchase the decoder box. If this is REALLY free, that why not.

Really? So no hd? It's ok I disconnected before beyond. Still have a CRT TV 21 inch somewhere.

Gonna use this NJOI for living room... hahaha... guest to my house watch old tv... on free channels only. If I put hyppTV downstairs... I'm afraid viitors won't wanna go home because of the sports channel.

BTW nobody from Astro call me back on reactivation. How long did it take for you? I totally forgot about NJOI and applied last Tuesday the 11th.

within 24 hours mine got reactivated, got 1 missed call but it was handphone number so i'm not sure if it's from astro?
btw, my decoder won't auto refresh the channel so i keep getting the "smart card not useable" sort of message. it was until i go manually download the channel list from satellite signal menu only those channels come alive.

Yes i saw there's improvement on coloring when switch to component, especially the movement on channel selection bar inside the OK menu.
however, the pixel grain was noticeable on component, probably on composite the coloring was bad so it looks smoother abit.

Ok happy to report this.

You will first get an email from Astro giving you your new account number and some instruction to purchase the prepaid cards... blablabla..

Reconnect everything and then redownload the channels.

You might also need to restart the box and voila everything works.

Free Astro NJOI, for now. If they start chargin then I'll just disconnect again.

Good luck!

buy dish online or find friend that gave up on Astro or Njoi completely and take their dish.
for me, I just activated my old multiroom decoder for njoi. Although they said its activated online but when I plug it in it doesn't work. Luckily I have my main pvr decoder.

Arghh. I activated it yesterday and they approved it today. I saw a new account number in my account tab in the website.
but then I haven't receive any email. I plugged it in but not a single channel is available. I assume I need to receive the email first.
if everything is fine I will give it to my grandma. Btw, this is my old multiroom decoder.

Using my old Multiroom Pace PVR at my grandma's house. Just got the dish installed by a seller on lelong. Good enough for my grandma. According to Astro.com.my/epg , NJOi decoders aren't suppose to receive the new epg. But I just put it in standby mode an hour ago and it updated itself to new Epg. Sadly no recording service to test it out and no HD services nor do my grandma has a HD TV. She has a 90s CRT TV. Meanwhile my main Samsung PVR decoder still hasn't receive the update -.-

Awesome! Previously, I've heard that NJOI only works on the standard composite / component cables but it's definitely great if the HDMI port can finally be used as well. rclxms.gif

From what you are saying, it seems that the ability to receive the EPG update depends on the type of decoder you are using. You might be on the NJOI package but the decoder is still a PVR decoder. From what I know, the new NJOI decoders that that new subscribers can buy looks different from our older decoders.

Awesome! Previously, I've heard that NJOI only works on the standard composite / component cables but it's definitely great if the HDMI port can finally be used as well.  rclxms.gif

Are you using a Beyond decoder?

are you sure HDMI port can use ? i will try tonight.
one more things is i not happy with njoi. if i never use for 1 month ++ my card will inactive, need to call customer service to active again vmad.gif

I think new EPG enables HDMI port. As I'm able to set the HD resolution although I'm not using HDMI port. SD channels would still be in SD though. I think many NJOI users are complaining because modern TVs either have no Composite/ Component port or have one only. That's the reason they enabled HDMI port. Gonna HDMI to DVI cable to my grandma's house to be tested on a 1080p monitor.

QUOTE(FusioneX @ Mar 27 2014, 11:58 PM)
From what you are saying, it seems that the ability to receive the EPG update depends on the type of decoder you are using. You might be on the NJOI package but the decoder is still a PVR decoder. From what I know, the new NJOI decoders that that new subscribers can buy looks different from our older decoders.
*
Those who own Astro Byond (Pace manufactured [First Generation Byond or Byond PVR] or Samsung Manufactured[Byond Second Generation, PVR second Generation]) or Refurbished NJOI decoders(Pace manufactured Astro Byond 1st Gen) or NJOI Zapper (Samsung manufactured Second Generation Astro Byond decoders) can receive new EPG. In other words, all Byond decoders can receive the new EPG

Mine is refurbished set. I believe it should be DMT IV STB which got recording and IPTV features

Can you show us a picture of it?

Pretty sure as I'm able to set HD resolution in the menu. (although I'm not using HDMI cable) Previously on old firmware, NJOI users are not able to set it.
Do you have another main Astro subscription, that's why you don't watch NJOI right? brows.gif (Just like me but the NJOI decoder is for my grandma)

This is Pace decoder 1st Generation Astro Byond.
it can record programs using an external WD 320GB HDD provided you have the RM5 recording services which is only available for normal Astro services. No IPTV function for this decoder FYI although it has a LAN port
It is suppose to receive new Astro EPG which enables the HDMI port as output! thumbup.gif

Pace Astro Byond: 1)Turn off your decoder
2)Plug it in and press Channel + and Power button on decoder repeatedly until u see auto update on screen.
Samsung Astro Byond/ zapper: Refer to Astro Byond Episode VI in LYF. Search for the last 10 page of it

1.79 is bootloader version.
The new interface/EPG/UI you having now enables HDMI port on NJOI decoders. Just plug it in and ready to go.

Your software already up to date and you can have HDMI connection. (previously HDMI cable not working need to use yellow red white)

But NJOI doesnt offer High Definition (HD) channel yet like Astro Byond.

I can confirm that the latest EPG update has finally enabled the HDMI port on my friend's decoder, resulting in better picture quality and sharper text compared to standard composite output.

However, I haven't received the update yet on my Beyond decoder. hmm.gif In retrospect, I think it is most likely because I usually switch off the decoder completely when I'm not watching Astro instead of leaving it on standby. I reckon I should start leaving the decoder on standby now so that it can download the update.

Since it's my friend's decoder that has already received the update, I can't snap a picture for you right now. I'll try and see if I can snap a photo if I go to his place this weekend. But anyway, the photo would the same as the ones Chokia posted in the previous page as they're using the same EPG interface.

Yes, I've checked, only one single HDMI (capable of carrying both digital video and audio signals). No composite red, white and yellow cable required. Much more elegant and less cable clutter rclxms.gif

Just pay one time payment of Rm328(used older decoder) or Rm428(new latest decoder) to Astro.
Inclusive of dish installation. Contact Astro Njoi to install.

As what qiyi has mentioned above, you only need to pay Astro a one time fee of either RM328 (for a refurbished decoder) or RM428 (for a new decoder) and you can enjoy the NJOI service forever. The fee also includes the installation of the satellite dish by their technician.

To apply, you can submit your details on the following site and wait for their customer service representative to contact you: https://www.astro.com.my/tools/iwantnjoi.html

Otherwise, if you don't wait to wait, you can directly call them yourself at 03-9543 8100 (8am -12 midnight)

You'll have to leave your decoder on standby and hope that it will receive the new update. Some NJOI users have already received it while others haven't: http://www.lowyat.net/2014/02/astro-to-dep...24-feb-onwards/

Once you see the new interface, you will be able to use the HDMI display port at the back of the decoder. smile.gif

You'll have to leave your decoder on standby and hope that it will receive the new update. Some NJOI users have already received it while others haven't: http://www.lowyat.net/2014/02/astro-to-dep...24-feb-onwards/

Once you see the new interface, you will be able to use the HDMI display port at the back of the decoder.  smile.gif

Try to use this link to activate your account http://www.astro.com.my/njoi/activate/index.aspx

I activated my dormant decoder without calling the hotline.

Which of the following decoder are you using?

Hi all.

I am now subscribing to Astro (with BYond decoder).
Account still active.

Should I choose to terminate this account, and subscribe to NJoi, will I enjoy the FREE subscription thingy ?

if your byond contract period has ended, you can ask for njoi conversion which may cost you RM99, ask astro centre to make sure

instead if you cancel astro subscribtion and get njoi anew, you will need to pay RM228 for a Refurbished DMT Box, or RM328 for a new box, + RM100 installation

Scenario :
Active Astro account (wish to terminate)
Decoder and dish both HD-capable.

That is indeed weird. Most people here are able to use HDMI without any issues after the update. Is the resolution supported by TV that is connected to your decoder?

You'll be using the same old smart card. If the smart card is faulty or you've lost it, you can request for a new one.

That's correct. The EPF interface will look sharper with HDMI compared to composite / component cable. Video quality, however, will still be in standard definition (SD).

As far as I know, the NJOI service is tied both the smart card and the decoder. I.e. you can't use one without the other.

I've tried using the NJOI smart card in my friend's Astro PayTV decoder but it didn't work. There was a message on the TV asking me to "insert the correct Astro smart card". Likewise, I've tried doing the opposite by using my friend's PayTV smart card in my NJOI decoder and it didn't work either.

You can switch smart cards for Non-Beyond decoders. For beyond decoders you can't. They have locked it down because they want you to subscribe multiroom.

HDMI port will only be enabled for certain decoders such as those 'beyond/PVR decoder'.

If you get decoder with model number of SMT-S5040/AST made by Samsung, I am sorry to inform there is no OTA update that enables the HDMI port for this model.

HDMI port will only be enabled for certain decoders such as those 'beyond/PVR decoder'.

If you get decoder with model number of SMT-S5040/AST made by Samsung, I am sorry to inform there is no OTA update that enables the HDMI port for this model.

Just apply astro Njoi. Mine got hdmi port behind. Can guide me how to enable it?
They will install the dish next week.
Currently I'm using media player and sound bar. But my sound bar have only one hdmi in and one hdmi out.
I prefer my astro sound from sound bar. How to solve that instead of plug in and plug out the hdmi?

Hmm....today received message from astro about "iNjoi Kini di saluran 100. Pastikan decoder anda pada mod standby selama 1 jam untuk dikemaskini secara percuma. Sila klik http://trk.my/BmWc

-.- No worry, that link actually redirect to astro njoi main homepage. No idea why they think it is a good idea to obscure the link.

Rather than this pointless update, I prefer if astro update my decoder's firmware so that the HDMI port can be used even for SD content. Currently my decoder is Samsung made SMT-S5040/AST where HDMI is still disabled.

Exactly, the satellite broadcast signal still in SD for NJOI channels.

The benefit of using HDMI (if enabled on decoder) ; only one cable is used to carry audio and video, less cable cluttering around.

Not to mention since HDMI signal sent to the TV set is digital, so there is not dot crawls issue.
Except if the broadcast itself is still analog (such as media prima channel ;TV3, 8TV, NT7), you still notice there is dot crawl even with HDMI connection.
I think Astro actually receives media prima channel (analog composite signal) using the normal antenna, then encode to MPEG2 before broadcasted to the satellite.
With Astro own digital broadcast (such as AEC, astro awani etc), no problem with dot crawls.

(The analog YPbPr also eliminate dot crawls, but it uses too much cable)
(Really? 3 cables for component video signals and 2 cables for left+right audio?)

To make your life easy, why dont you take a picture of your decoder?

Much more easy for me to tell if your decoder has it HDMI enabled.

Otherwise, just try to plug in HDMI connection from your decoder to tv set and see if there is any picture coming out?

That the reason when you watch those Media Prima channel through astro with HDMI or component video connection, the dot crawls still exists.
Astro own broadcast not affected at all.

When astro received the composite signal, it is not properly separated. They must be using cheap separator for that.

The second possibility is......media prima sends the improperly separated composite signal before they feed the broadcast to astro station through fiber connection? (Highly unlikely)

Edit: Damn autocorrect.

Ah, very easy, follow my instruction well.

First, switch off the decoder. (As in unplug the power cord, full disconnect from electricity)

Now, the moment you turn on the electricity, pay attention to the red LED at decoder. Once it blinks once for the first time, quickly press the ON/OFF button THREE TIMES.
The forced update will start. Dont put too much hope on this method since our decoder may not have any update in the first place.

Now that a tough question.......

My friend watches the prepaid sport channel using njoi.
On the other hand, I only watch TV1 7:00pm documentary (Mon-Fri).
My mom watches 11:30am hokkien drama at 8TV (Mon-Fri).
My dad prefers to watch CCTV4 5.20pm to 7pm (Mon-Fri).

The only complaint we all share are the darned commercials pop out of nowhere in middle of shows.

But at least the video quality is better than FTA rabbit ears antenna reception. No more grainy or snowy reception.

Except the part where 'no signal' when heavy rain occured.

-Just a head-up to all: if you have Astro decoder and dish already installed and working properly (but deactivated; showing "please insert Astro smart card" message), just walk-in into any Astro service centre, tell them the decoder serial number and ask to activate NJOI, they'll give a smart card to you at zero cost (RM0). Tested and proven by myself when I reactivated the Astro (now NJOI) service for my elderly aunt/neighbour (she has the DVB-850S decoder). thumbup.gif

Note: I was asked for my IC during registration, but the account will still be under the decoder's original owner's name. I also provided new phone number for this NJOI registration.

-Yes, I recently activated NJOI using an old DVB850S decoder. Please note that when registering for NJOI at Astro centre/branch, you need to tell (and explain to) them you are given the decoder (or say you bought it) from your friend, or else the new NJOI account will still be under the decoder's owner's name.

Do they require any further details of previous owner except name

I am considering to buying a decoder online since I already got my dish and wiring intact
*
-I just gave them the decoder's serial number. You may told them that you bought the decoder from a previous Astro owner (who's no longer subscribing Astro). nod.gif

Dont worry another few months astro will remotely "shot-circuit" your byond hd decoder until the only thing you can see on the display is "--:--"

Mine already kena

After whole week no Njoi, been calling CS like crazy, Technician came (paid Rm50) said decoder kong and gave few options :-

1. Repair the decoder will cost more than buy decoder
2. Change to Njoi decoder RM328 (New) + they'll take away your Byond decoder
3. Change to Njoi decoder RM228 (Refurbished) + they'll take away your Byond decoder
4. Create new Njoi Account RM228 + RM100 Installation

5. Subscribe back to Astro Byond HD only RM50 activation and they will give you new decoder, new dish, new cable and installation for free. And they dont want your old dish and decoder

Nampak tak permainan dia?

Hye,

Got some customer complain that astro call them and ask the customer to upgrade to basic package.
If you receive this call just say NO....

If 1 year still can claim warranty bro.

Njoi refurbished decoder are the same as astro beyond decoder.

Thanks Farhanz

Now i managed to get one unused but working decoder from my friend but i can only listen to radio LOL

user posted image

Note :

1. His decoder's serial number still under his name, astro didnt take back when he upgraded to new PVR.
2. Already called astro, they said i cant simply put my smartcard to other people decoder, becoz my NJOI account linked to old rosak decoder.
3. Astro said only NJOI dealer can do the activation and give me decoder, even astro people cannot simply change that decoder to my smartcard (ironic)

I think for Musafir_86's case, he did this first time, activation people decoder with serial number and njoi smartcard.

My case a bit different coz i already activated Njoi account under my name linked to that old decoder

My bet if i wanted to activate my friend decoder with Njoi, i may need to make another Njoi account with this decoder with new smartcard. Depending on luck i may get new smartcard like Musafir_86's case OR maybe be asked to pay activation fee for 2nd NJOI account

So can any NJOI dealer here comment?

-Hmm, how about this?

1. Walk into any Astro service centre.
2. Provide them the 'new' decoder's serial number and say "Hey, I got this from my friend; mind to activate NJOI on this decoder? It's free, right? Oh, and everything has already been set up properly, just waiting for a smartcard." (don't tell them anything about your previous Astro or NJOI accounts).
3. Get the new smartcard and voila!

-You might just try, right? icon_rolleyes.gif

or

i found out the culprit :-
user posted image

After close inspection i heard a hissing sound and i thought it came from the decoder but not.

It's the stupid ADAPTER. After I changed another 12V generic non astro adaptor and all my problems are gone. Threw the astro adapter to rubbish bin

So if any of you encountered such problem since your Byond decoder no longer got warranty after converted to NJOI. DO NOT BUY OTHER DECODER REGARDLESS OF NEW OR REFURBISH OR EVEN NEED TO PAY ASTRO TECHNICIAN RM50 TO CHECK BEFORE YOU CHANGE THE ADAPTER

One more thing you'll find your audio will be louder if you choose stereo, instead of 5.1 coz Njoi will never broadcast multichannel sound unlike Astro Byond HD

Hi, I am interested to switch my current Astro plan to Astro NJOI because nowadays rarely watch TV at home. Is this still applicable for now? smile.gif

- One-time conversion fee for existing Astro subscribers with active Astro decoder and satellite dish
- One-time NJOI conversion fee of RM99 to migrate from your existing Astro PayTV - package to NJOI

And I just need to fill this form right?

that way look like double fees

I think terminate astro 1st which is no fee.

Then activate NJOI sometimes free sometimes got fee RM100 depending on luck

A note of advise for those who are planning to get NJOI, make sure you guys gave them fake or disposable contact numbers.

Ever since I registered for NJOI, for F**K sake, ASTRO, STOP CALLING MY MOBILE 15 TIMES A WEEK FOR YOUR STUPID UPGRADE/PROMO/SUBSCRIPTION OFFERS.

Phew, that sure get it out of my nerve..........

Yesterday I received a call from astro representative (using number 0376288060) saying they got promotion to selected NJOI customer. The promotion is to pay one off RM20 for 120 channels for 4 months. My NJOI is converted from astro byond last June... The lady asked my to make payment to my old astro account number. The promotion sounds too good to be true... plus, the 120 channels will only enable within 1 month after i make payment of RM20... did you guys got the same call ? especially NJOI converted from astro ?

My house got ASTRO for 3 years now. We would like to unsubscribe, and change to NJOI instead, since nobody watch TV that much.

My brother just called Astro and they said the promotion is off? Cannot be done? whatthefak? What promotion? Or its just a scam so my (not so techie) brother not to unsubscribe astro?

My scenario is different from yours. When I first subscribe Njoi, I been offered RM39++ for family package (one-time payment) and watch for free for 4 months. The problem is, astro system sucks. Service will be cut off due to "overdue payment" coz their system will never capture the promotion thing. So, every week I have to call in astro CS so that they can resume back my astro service. Really so frustrated at that time coz everytime you called, you have to keep explaining the whole process about the promotion thing. Or else CS wouldnt believe you and also wouldnt resume the service for you vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

so, your status now is astro or njoi ? i kinda annoy with telemarketing or promotion through phone.. no black & white.. so no proof.. and we dont have a chance to go trough what we've been offered in details....

njoi subscriber actually being manipulated by astro... if they really sincere to give free satellite service, they should make it easy to get/subscribe, option to do own installation and easy access to prepaid channel.... thailand decoder IPM more worth it to buy... free HD channels, easy to get...got RTM1 & TV3 some more...

Im never trust Astro tele marketing people anyway... I have similar case on begining of the year, due to the misleading information, i need to submit twice report to MCMC to settled the incident with astro even through they say i can terminate anytime during the 4 months period.

think twice when say yes to them.

If there is only law or legislation that can prevent these kind of telemarketing from calling in first place.

I am tired of been spammed with their call centre, so I blocked them on my mobile phone. I was having fun seeing the 'call blocked' notification displayed on phone display, until suddenly it stopped. 5 minutes later, my mum called and she said some astro guy was calling the house number (landline) about promo etc. FOR SH*T SAKE, DOES THESE ASTRO TELEMARKETER NEED TO FALL DOWN SO LOW? mad.gif

Now.....instead of my mobile phone, they phone my landline number instead.....3 times a day on average......Time to unplug the phone, only has it for streamyx.....

Should I make a police report over these aggressive marketing? Or consumer tribunal? AH, wait, I forgot the efficiency of these useless enforcers. It will never work.

I just hope after I unplug the landline, ASTRO WONT SPAM MY MAILBOX instead. vmad.gif

In the first place, I took the promotion. So, they will change your service from njoi to astro, as only astro customer can watch those channels.
Lastly, I filed in complaint and converted back to njoi after 3 mths being astro customer, thanks to that "promotion". vmad.gif

you know last time i complaint to "chinapress" , than same day around 7pm astro call me said convert back to njoi.
njoi user paid rm328 to get decorder and everything.
if njoi user change to astro, astro earn more money again !!because not need to give "free" decoder ...
1 x rm328 (from njoi to astro)
if 1000 x rm328 = astro already make many many money....

I'm not so lucky as you.. just now, i went to Astro Customer Service Centre Cheras, KL...

I bring old astro DVB-850S decoder with old smartcard... asked for NJOI smartcard at no cost, the customer service representative lady who served me said there's no such promotion or service... She said either I subscribe to New NJOI decoder at RM428 or refurbished decoder at RM328... both with installation...

Attached Image

There's no such thing as convert to NJOI available with the decoder I bring because:
1) it's inactive
2) she cannot detect smart card serial number in the system
3) i'm not the original owner of the decoder

This old astro DVB-850S decoder was given to me by previous house renter saying he's not using it anymore... I try turn on the decoder, all still in good condition..... the moment i turned on and connected to satellite cable, the decoder also self updating and successfully update.. of coz it's using old blue user interface with all the channel list available... i checked the decoder can still receive satellite signal, which indicate 70% signal quality..

I explained to her that my friend successfully convert the same type of decoder at at Astro Customer Service Centre Cheras Alor Setar branch, but the lady refused and insisted she must follow procedure by the book... huhu

I might try my luck at Alor Setar branch when i balik kampung later....

but, this clearly show the greediness of this corporation... they make it hard to obtain their FREE service... when we have all the equipments, they deny it by saying this is not the way to subscribe.. even they have potential of new customer on prepaid section of NJOI, but instead the greediness in wanting customer to get NEW NJOI (or refurbished NJOI) at high capital cost. dry.gif

QUOTE
NJOI is a first free satellite television launched on 18 February 2012 in collaboration with the government of Malaysia and Astro.[1] It was officially announced by prime minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak on 20 December 2011.[2] During the launch, this service provide 18 television channels and 19 radio stations. However, an existing Astro customer may still able to receive this service through separate account.[3] The set-up, which consists of a set-top box, Out-Door Unit (ODU) satellite dish, smartcard and remote control unit was available at a one-time payment of RM 308 at all Astro authorised retailers, with a standard installation fee of RM 100 from an Astro authorised installer as stated on the website. In mid 2013, the one-time payment has been reduced to RM 280, and installation remains at RM 100. This platform is currently using prepaid card method, that you pay for the day and amount that the channel that you desire to watch. It is important to note the decoder's HDMI output is locked out and this leaves users with composite signal and component video output. However, certain decoders with updated firmware are able to use the HDMI output. On 19 June 2013, three more channels have been added, namely NTV7, 8TV and TV AlHijrah.[4] Njoi currently offers 23 TV channels, 20 radio channels and 3 NVOD services. On 1 February 2014, Astro customers with inactive Set Top Box (decoder) as at 31st December, when Astro customers can subscribe to the Njoi service for free from 1 February until 30 April 2014.

agree that njoi company quite greedy say its free but how can charge ppl who already have the hardwares and installer finish already. they havevery thick skin charge people for the channel like tv1,2,3,7,8,9 and some low budget channels full of advert and repeat...they should pay people to watch it no other way

Do you even bother to look back posts on this thread? vmad.gif

Straight to the point. If your so called HD decoder got big green 'NJOI' sticker in front of it instead of 'Beyond', dont bother with HDMI. There is no firmware update.

If you wanna know the reason, please read previous posts on this thread.

For the future njoi subscriber, if u keen on hdmi, remember to choose beyond re-cond decoder and not njoi new decoder. Njoi new decoder can only use rca cable.

In more advance system, ARC from TV go to your AVR

Hi all, planning to install NJOI for a home to rent, but then I am not sure what's the different with refurb unit and new unit, isn't that both are capable to deliver the same experience? Refurb unit has HDMI out?

Thanks! And normally how long it takes for them to come install after register?

All new and refurbish NJOI decoder when 1st use only can use RCA signal, only when you set the unit into stanby mode for 1-2hrs(for update) , and re-power up (power off the decoder {off the electricity to decoder}and re-power ON), then you had HDMI/RCA is enable!

New potential subscriber here. So, based on all the comments that I've read thus far:
1) the only way to get HDMI is to get a refurbished "BEYOND Astro Decoder"? No other way around this?
2) HDMI output not that much different anyway from SD, though much clearer than the standard TV aerial
3) Any other difference (other than the warranty and fee) between getting a refurbished decoder and a new one?

-.- The NJOI decoder with big green NJOI wording doesn't even have firmware update for enabling the HDMI.
Does astro expect consumers with this particular decoder to view 'HD' channel using YCbCr output?

Could it be your HDMI spoiled or maybe your refurnished decoder HDMI function now being disabled by Astro ?

If so, is there a possibility they are going to impose a charge $ for HD service soon and only then will they enable HDMI?

Maybe that's why the New Decoders HDMI port can't be enabled for now, unless pay for upcoming HD features?

Astro announced that there will be a new Chinese HD channel coming to NJOI platform starting from 1st February 2015. Astro Xi Yue HD will be made available to Astro users too at CH. 300. Channel 300 got HD plus Dolby surround , if you have home theatre system with optical input , just buy a optical cable to connect. Then you can enjoy the Dolby surround.

You need the new decoder with HDMI connection, or old refurbished decoder which is compatible and has been updated with FW that can enable the HDMI port.

Sure can, but I think must pay processing fee RM99/- to convert. You need to call them up.

But don't expect too much of NJOI, the more popular channels must still have to buy top-up and pay to watch. e.g Sports only got 2 channels on NJOI (801 and 817) and both only in SD and have to pay to watch.

So far only 1 HD channel in Chinese been introduced yesterday.

Yes, my decoder has HDMI connection but currently I am using S video output. Already updated to latest firmware dated Oct'14. So the condition is I must use HDMI connection. Is this correct?

Last time I remember early days of HD TV, there were some DVD/BD players which can display 1080i (not P) to HD TV through component (YPbPr) connection.

Since Astro is using 1080i signal maybe their decoder can also do the same. As an experiment, try connecting through component cable see if can watch Ch 300 or not. Also check if any noticeable diff , image in HD or just SD. I also curious to know what Mun88 is talking about.

(Note:- I can't try myself because I don't have Astro yet, LOL biggrin.gif

Need to wait for 10-15s after seeing message "Service currently not available". Any advice how to get rid of the waiting period?

Recently noticed there's a new channel for Njoi.
Tuned to channel 300 XI YUE HD. Wow. Very clear images (using component).
Decided to test using HDMI. It works this time (previously doesn't work)
HDMI Super clear! Switches channel as usual. No waiting no lag. Using latest zapper decoder. Good approach Astro.

Ok, understood. I just installed Njoi yesterday. Decoder is DMT 4 b.yond HD model. Recond set. Everything seems great. HDMI is fully functional, CH 300 HD is indeed in HD and really really looking very sharp n beautiful. The shop guy told me it is just a 1-month channel before Astro will pull it, I dont know how true. Is is the same guy who told me HDMI won't work but mine did. The GUI is also the new ones, no self update required. Everything just work out of the box and the new GUI is really slick n fast. Changing channel is nearly instant. So far no complains at all but its only been 1 day. Happy for now.

TVB Classic broadcasts classic dramas which are older than those on TVB Xinghe. Astro AEC is a local Chinese channel that focuses on Astro Ben Di Quan (Astro Local Chinese) programmes, Singaporean, Taiwanese and China shows.

Mine was free. They just sent me the smartcard. I insert into the stb and had to call them to activate. That's all. But that was a while back. They wanted to reactivate as many of the old boxes as possible. I am with a pace byond box.

What did you do??? The reply i got was

The conversion charges is RM99 and RM228 for the decoder.

Please be informed that all B.yond/PVR boxes are leased to customers by Astro. The ownership belongs to Astro, which means customer needs to pay if want convert to Njoi. Once account is under Njoi, the set belongs to customer.

I just got the njoi.

The video seems to be smoothed/blurred for, eg TV1, when viewed using njoi compared to using standard antenna TV input. Is this normal? Channel 300 which is in HD looks great though.

I'm using HD resolution pc and hdmi connection. Checked that resolution used is correct as well.

Mine was back in 2013. Early years of Njoi. They have so many inactive boxes so they started offering Njoi for free to those boxes. I brought my box to my parents' house and put it in the kitchen for us to watch during meal times. Their dish has quad lnb with the first two outputs taken by the pvr. So I just connected the Njoi box to another output.

Do you all face this problem?
Switch from channel 300 HD to other channel will mute the sound, need to turn on/off the decorder/tv back to normal.
Change the hdmi cable didn't help this issue at all.

Heard from the place I bought Panasonic TV, Astro are offering Beyond for rm348, I assume it is 1 step advance than Njoi?
But no more stocks now. Just need to clarify. Using 50" with normal antenna are kinda fail and in my area even worst, raining only NTV7 will not be able to view.

Thanks for the update. Never mind, I lost interest already, because wanted it before CNY. I am staying at flat, more hassle for their installers, so they probably pick and choose where they want to install.

The HD channel Xi Yue HD (ch300) is always free for NJOI users as they advertise, this is not included in the preview channels, the preview channels for Chinese is Xinghe, Celestial Movies & Shuang Xing which supposed to pay in order to watch it on NJOI.

Make sure your Digital Audio settings is set to "Stereo".
FYI, Astro/Njoi made Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound available in HD channels only.

What you mean DMT Astro? Old Astro decoder?
Astro has phased out old Astro decoders, same goes to NJOI. If you take Njoi, they will give you the "so-called" Astro B.yond decoder, but made specially for NJOI!

No chance you can record programmes on Njoi. Unless if you take Astro B.yond PVR.

The disc need to have certain direction for it to work, so you cannot DIY.
That's why you can get "Astro" antenna cable from your local electronic shops whistling.gif
As the installers are selling the cables.

Please be in mind, the decoder is modified from old Astro decoder and they don't give warranty to the decoder at all.

There is a risk you need to pay another 200++ to subscribe the NJOI again. Please point out if I'm wrong. smile.gif

I propose you not to bother with WLT, this is standard definition 480/576i broadcast. Not worth paying.

As always, give some freebies to attract new subscriptions by word of mouth , then after taking all the money, the channels will slowly disappear smile.gif

If the channels appear too good to be true, they probably are for limited time only. Later probably will be available for prepaid viewing only.

Try to look at the channel video properly, especially near the logo. You will notice some sort of blurring or sometime pixelation.

As if the channel doesnt have enough bitrate.

Same with channel 802, take a look on the arena HD logo.

First pic.
Look at the clothes, instead of seeing clothes' lines, it is blurry.
Now, notice the blue waves lines under "GO"
Seem like upscale from standard definition 480/576.

Second pic.
Notice the compression artifact on 'ASTRO' and "Sukan SEA" words.
When 802 available for viewing on the eve of SEA Games, I didn't see such artifact.

Ok probably your TV is bigger than my 40 incher, i barely see these details.

If these were the upscale of SD to HD, the whole text and image should be pixelated or blurry

Right click, save image as, open with some photo viewer, Fullscreen.
Much more easier to notice the artifacts.

If enlarge to a larger size, of course can see artifacts smile.gif. But just minor ones here and there, image still looks sharp on the whole.

You are not old enough to appreciate it. for those of us who have lived with terrestial TV (you know the ones that had vacuum tube diodes and huge CRTs) this is crazy good quality. And you don't even have to tune it.. or adjust the aerial. This is actually in color (and HD at that) and it's free. Wow. smile.gif

css9028 , now you see why most of NJOI users aren't interested with the prepaid channels?

Lodge complaint? Consumer tribunal.......let just say it is just a waste of time....and move on. Think of the RM7 and time wasted on astro customer service as a lesson.

This 'free' NJOI channel quality is an indicator of how is astro paid channel looking right now....

i just got my njoi less than a month. i asked the installer during registration for decoder with hdmi ports. they come with refurbished beyond decoder but installer told got hdmi port can't use also. Later after he gone away i put hdmi cable and walla got signal. the cable comes with the box by the way and they give me 12-months warranty for refurbished set. i m a happy user.

Installer got less knowledge.  All the new astro customers njoi or beyond will get hdmi signal.  2 HD channel now . 300 and 135

I thought that 135 is unwatchable for b.yond without HD fees...?

Confirm hdmi included? Probably the agent keep it and now use normal rca cable to component ports. Need to report this to Astro.

got hdmi cable by samsung. a few manual books.

i got mine in end of 2013, installer comes with sealed box. i open it myself, keep all the accessories.

i sure the installer going to sell the hdmi cable as spare part if anyone needed. or your set is actually not 1st hand set.

im curious...

I just apply for NJOI for my parent house.

My parent still using byond acc, but the decoder and sat dish for NJOI already arrived and not yet installed

But why i need to pay installation fee while there's no installed item?

Everything still in the box and my mom pay RM448?

can someone clarify this?

Price is fixed I think. They will ask you to sell off the items yourself if you don't want.

Sorry recently just subscribed to NJOI and it's for my mum to watch.

It's too troublesome for her.

I have some basic questions :-

1. Her fav channel is 8TV, which is astro channel 708. Is it possible to map channel 708 to a lower number ? The number is too big, it is too difficult for her to press 7-0-8.

After I stored a few channels as favourite, and then ask her to press 'fav'. But because the number is too big, she still have to press many times before it will hit channel 708. Or is there a way to reverse sort the fav channel no ?

2. The astro installer came to install and tried to upgrade the firmware, it is still stuck at the old interface ( ie he failed to upgrade the firmware ). Understand from him that the new firmware is menu at the bottom. How to upgrade the new firmware ?

The instruction I found is to press power and channel + repeatedly, but my NJOI decoder only has power button, there is not 'channel +'.

3. When power on, the screen show a small one. Have to press one button to make screen big. Is it possible to set it so that screen goes to big display when power on ?

If you change from antenna to njoi just because of reception issues, then I can say you made a very big mistake.
When I change to LED TV, I was in your boat also, thinking to change or not. End up I never change, instead, I need to look for the best spot for the "perfect" reception.
And because the pipe are round, so it will still move over the time. Now am thinking of the ways to ensure it won't move.

Is there a way for me to use a generic "universal remote control" with astro decoder ?

I know there are many cheap astro compatible remote control unit pricing around RM15 or less. But all of them almost look alike in design, and all the numeric keys have alphabets printed together with it which makes the font too small for old people who have poor eye sight.

I am looking for a remote control with huge font on the numeric pad. Better if I can program the remote control to send specific numeric sequence with one key press. The idea is to send for example '708' with one key press.

The fav is not solving the problem fully, as I have already programed a short list of fav TV channels for her. So fav is not one item. It's a list. She has to press fav many times to scroll to the last item of the fav, which is 708.

Some more the fav button is rather small and obscure.

If it's possible to have 2 fav buttons .... wink.gif
