While I am agree that they are professional, I must add that some of them are Crimean

http://www.amara.org/en/videos/DOCLyKWSF1K...a-ne-rossiiane/

And by local extension in the same group, it is understandable that some of them might behave unprofessionally

I mean, targeting RPG toward group of people? While it is destructive, it is highly uneffective IMO.

During Vietnam war, US soldiers often fired a M72 LAW at general location of a VC snipers. While not as good as specialized anti personal weapons, shrapnels from RPG-22s 360 gram warhead will still be able to cut down several peoples group close together which is the case with this unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.

Doesn't seem so. While militias & volunteers are now active in the Crimea, they are separate from the mysterious uniformed soldiers with seems professional and equipped with heavy equipment. Most of the militias consists of local pro-russian volunteers, Cossack militias & ex-Berkut police personnel still loyal to Yanukovich.

You forgot about the defected Ukrainian Soldiers

This is not vietnam and they are not shooting at snipers. context, man, context! sweat.gif
Huh...I'll simply chalk it as a weird show of intimidation. Rifle and MG armed soldiers should have been enough, though.

but Russians,man...You'll never know what they are thinking. biggrin.gif

Immigration officers involved in standoff with 100 thugs

user posted image

MALACCA: About 30 immigration officers were holed up for two hours at an entertainment outlet in Melaka Raya on Wednesday after they were surrounded by about 100 thugs.

They eventually managed to take 35 foreigners, including 34 women, with them out of the three-storey building under tight police cordon at about 7pm, said Malacca Immigration Department acting director Abu Bakar Sidek Hassan.

He said the immigration officers, including 23 members of the Special Tactical Group could not leave the building until 15 policemen from the Bandar Hilir station arrived at the scene.

"Several thugs were seen taking the registration numbers of vehicles belonging to the immigration officers during the stand-off.

“I feared that they have an ulterior motive," he told reporters at the Home Ministry Complex on Thursday.

He said several drunk clients also questioned the immigration officers for detaining the guest relation officers (GROs) aged between 18 and 35 comprising 33 Vietnamese women and a Chinese woman.

The Chinese woman in her 30s is married to a local while a 35-year-old Vietnamese woman acted as a pimp, he said, adding that a 26-year-old Bangladeshi who worked at the premises was also arrested.

Abu Bakar said the GROs were brought to the entertainment outlet in small groups to avoid detection and they could leave with clients who hired their services.

He said 13 of the Vietnamese women and the Chinese woman allegedly had violated their working permits, visit passes or boundary passes while 20 Vietnamese women and the Bangladeshi man entered the country illegally.

They were taken to the Machap Umboo Immigration Detention Depot, he said.

Abu Bakar said the raid, which started at about 3pm culminated after a three-day surveillance. - Bernama

Again,I'm NOT referring to RPG warhead types or uses in combat.
I'm wondering the wisdom of someone aiming a rocket launcher to intimidate an unarmed group of people less than 20 meters away.....ahhh nevermind la....

Two Russian Hind choppers having fun at low altitude over Sevastopol in Crimea.

It’s not clear whether they were circling over a specific target or simply performing a show of force.

For sure, the following footages show Russian Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopters low over the roofs of Sevastopol, Crimea, Ukraine, on Mar. 6, 2014.

For sure these thugs are local tontos. Why no action against tontos ah? I think they are obstructing justice at the very least. hmm.gif

Anyway,on the subject of Hind helicopters, have the Russians upgraded their Hinds yet? While they are impressive and powerful,I don't think their avionics and electronic offensive & defensive equipment are at par with western helicopters. Or are the Russians are planning to converting completely to Mil Mi 28? I think some clients of the Mil Mi 24 have upgraded their Hinds, have the Russians?

Japan Military Plans Marine Force

05-03-2014 18:29

Japan Plans Special Force for Island Defense

The 3,000-Troop Amphibious Unit Would Be Similar to U.S. Marines Corps

TOKYO—Japan plans to establish a 3,000-troop unit specializing in amphibious operations " as swiftly as possible," the defense minister said, publicly outlining details of the new unit for the first time as tensions with China continue over disputed islands.

Japan has undertaken an ambitious project to create a force similar to the U.S. Marine Corps, and Japanese Self-Defense Force Troops have been receiving increasingly frequent training from their U.S. counterparts in the past few years.

A plan to strengthen amphibious capabilities was laid out in Japan's new defense guidelines released in December. In detailing some of the specifics Sunday, Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said the new force is expected to include units specializing in handling types of equipment currently unfamiliar to Japanese troops, such as amphibious vehicles and the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.

He said the new unit will likely be based on the southern island of Kyushu or in the Nansei Islands, which include Okinawa, considering its island mission. He added that Tokyo plans to negotiate with local governments to find a host community.

In discussing the need to Japanese protect islands, Mr. Onodera didn't mention China or Japan's territorial dispute with Beijing over small islands in the East China Sea.

" Our nation has numerous remote islands and islands of various sizes, and they give us the basis for our exclusive economic zone that ranks sixth in the world, " Mr. Onodera told troops during a tour of Kyushu on Sunday. "That makes it important to provide defense for islands over the coming years."

An exclusive economic zone is an area surrounding a nation's territory in which it has the right to explore natural resources.

Currently, a Kyushu-based, 700-troop Ground Self-Defense Force unit is designated as a specialist amphibious unit, and it has been undergoing intensive training.

To train large numbers of personnel in a short time, Japan plans to step up exercises with the U.S. military, particularly the Marines, Mr. Onodera said. This week, troops from the two nations are finishing a seven-week amphibious exercise called " Iron Fist 2014 " at Camp Pendleton in California, with 270 Japanese troops and 500 U.S. troops participating.

Mr. Onodera said Japan hopes to use training facilities to be built on the U.S. Pacific island territory of Guam as some U.S. Marines transfer from Okinawa.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a news briefing Monday that the Japanese government's actions, especially in the military sphere, were being closely watched by the international community for "historical reasons."

" We hope the Japanese side will make good on its commitment of pursuing the path of peaceful development and make a contribution to regional peace and stability, " he said.

Singapore selects Airbus Defence and space A330 MRTT Multi Role Tanker Transport
7 March 2014 Friday

Singapore places firm order for six aircraft.

Airbus Defence and Space has been selected by Singapore to supply six A330 MRTT new generation air-to-air refuelling aircraft for the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).

The aircraft will be delivered under the terms of a firm contract which has already been signed.

Singapore’s choice of the A330 MRTT makes it the sixth nation to select the type following Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom which have ordered a total of 28 aircraft, and India which is in the final stages of contractual negotiations for six aircraft. A total of 17 aircraft are currently in service with the first four nations.

The A330 MRTT is derived from the highly successful A330 commercial airliner and proven in-service as a tanker/transport with multi-role capability.

Airbus Defence and Space Head of Military Aircraft, Domingo Ureña Raso said: “We are greatly honoured by the selection of the A330 MRTT by Singapore. The decision confirms the A330 MRTT’s status as unquestionably the world’s most advanced tanker/transport aircraft as well as its pre-eminent suitability for the Asia-Pacific region.”
