81st Army Anniversary: DEFTECH AV8 To Be Delivered This Year

The Malaysian Army is expecting the deliveries of DEFTECH AV8 8×8 Armoured Wheel Vehicle (AWV) by this year. 257 of the new generation armoured vehicles built by DRB-HICOM’s DEFTECH will replace the Army’s Radpanzer Condor 4×4 APCs and Sibmas 6×6 AFSV.

The delivery of such asset to the Army will further enhance the assault and mobility capabilities of its troops while conducting military operations in extreme terrains.

Around RM 8 billion of investment has been made for the development and production of these armoured vehicles.

During the 2014 Budget announcement made by the Prime Minister, part of the RM 13.2 billion allocation for the MAF will be used to procure these new generation armoured vehicles.

A prototype of the DEFTECH AV8 has been showcased to the public during last year’s Army Day also in Port Dickson as well as during the MAF Grand Parade in Kuala Lumpur on September 2013.

One naval serviceman was killed and 71 people were injured on Wednesday when an explosion shattered
an Indonesian naval warehouse stocked with light ammunition, the military's spokesman said.

Iskandar Sitompul also said the blast near the capital Jakarta, on Pondok Dayung island, was believed to
have followed an electrical short-circuit in the building.

The explosion at about 10.30am local time blew apart the warehouse belonging to an elite naval combat force,
spraying victims with shrapnel and pieces of wood and glass.

"Most of them were injured by pieces of wood and glass that pierced them on their cheek, chest and stomach,"
Mr Sitompul said.

The depot is among naval facilities located on a small island a short distance from Jakarta's shoreline.

Mr Sitompul said one of those injured was a civilian.

And by local extension in the same group, it is understandable that some of them might behave unprofessionally

I mean, targeting RPG toward group of people? While it is destructive, it is highly uneffective IMO.
