Here's my simple setup, trying to keep it minimal and went for a soundbase instead. Nothing too fancy.

TV: Samsung 55" H6700
Amplifier: Soundbase below
PLayer: Xbox One & PS4

Started off with the Samsung Soundstage. Quite like how thin and streamlined it is. The surround sound is pretty impressive and sounded quite wide.

decided to check out the Sony HTXT1 as well. Slightly larger/higher but the bass does have the thump

Soundbase alone is enough? no need left and right speakers? Then good la. How much does one cost?

It has left and right speakers at the front, built in subwoofer and 2 downward firing drives. The sony is a 2.1 ch and the samsung is 4.2 ch.

So far so good, and it's loud enough to rumble the neighbours (in an apartment). But obviously you won't be able to get the full surround experience.

Got mine in uk for about £280 (RM1500)

Lol I did check with my neighbours if they could hear me blasting it but so far no complaints.

Guess she hasn't heard me cranking up the 100watt marshall amp. ;)

That's the Sonos bridge and Sonos playbar.

The Playbar is used for music / movies / radio and the Synology is my NAS where my movies are stored.

My Pivos media player reads off the NAS. The Sarowin HDMI converter converts the HDMI signal from my PIVOS to HDMI + Optical Audio out (supports DD 5.1 - since my TV doesn't output 5.1 to the Sonos Playbar) - HDMI to my TV (Video) and Optical Audio Out to my Sonos Playbar

Hmm .... well yes and no. I haven't had time to build the exhaust fans yet into my cabinets but basically there are 2 holes at the top and one on the far right to provide some limited ventilation.

My NAS runs on WD Reds which are at least 8-9 degrees C cooler than my previous Seagates. The only thing that has overheated is the UNIFI box but that's a lifetime guarantee ... so not too bothered. All my other devices have survived for about 10 months now ....

scientific study on consumer drives used at server farm and cloud storage (including at google's server farm) suggests that one should keep the hdds at 30-35 degrees operational temperature. below 30 degrees the failure increase, after 40 degrees the failure increase.

you can read the drive temperature if you have access to the drive SMART reporting tool. might be available inside the configuration page.
do check it out.
