well, that was like 3 years ago....bought from Amazon and I still have weekly shipment from US during that time, tumpang tumpang, so it's free shipping for me tongue.gif , and customs also very generous, no open box to check and sure no tax lor rclxm9.gif

Once you already bought something, and if you're happy with the sound, then try not to look up how much cheaper you could get. Just enjoy your system. You'll be happier.

BTW: I do like the JBL speakers for movies.

Cable tax rate is high in Malaysia. I was taxed once due to the bulk cables. 30% import duty and 10% sales tax on total amount including shipping. Effectively, it is more than 40% tax.

It is a lot higher than the 26.5% tax on electronic items.

I wouldnt even fathom to guess wat u can get 'elsewhere' but JBL's are not a very well 'taken' brand amongst de hifi kakis in malaysia..

I tested infinity, missions, paradigm, jamos, tannoy, klipsch and def tech...
the best was def tech but the price was a killer.... cuz it was active bi polar speakers...

for the studio 5, i think what got me so hooked on to it was the "live" feeling.... really hard to digest the looks though...

Its kinda good that the JBL is not in the mainstream choice..... or else the price would be much higher than that....

currently i set the cascade 15 behind the sofa.... gives a good massage during action movies.... biggrin.gif

I used to order the the subwoofer cable (15ft and 12ft) from monoprice and delivery price itself more expensive than the cable price itself. Worse still, UPS just pay the tax and claim later from me during the delivery process plus RM20 for the declaration + payment in advance for me.

After my online complain to customs, they agrees to waive the tax but I need to appoint the agent to claim it back but it's troublesome for me since I'm from Sarawak.

Copied below was the reply from the customs. So, the key point is to have the CIF value below RM500 and for personal use.

De problem wif our men in blue is tat if there is an exemption of RM500 - why tax in the first place .. I mean, letting us claim a refund is literally not gud enuff - there should be compensation for transportation ; loss of work and etc etc.. But then again in Bolehland - Only in your dreams..
