Come on la bro , if u wanna have assumption on a topic , u r free to do so as this is a forum . Please dont turn it into a statement like it's a sure thing and confirmed . Few weeks , I asked u where u got your info 4.4 is coming to Note 3 , u said " soon " . How sure are you ? Note 2 skipped 4.2 and going straight to 4.3 . Maybe Note 3 will skip 4.4 and go ahead to another newer version , nobody knows . Do u know ? If u r working for Samsung development , it's a different thing but u r not .
And now , u said flash your phone and trigger KNOX , it will void your warranty . SME tell u so ? Or forums elsewhere ? Do note different country got their own T&C . Rooting is considering voiding warranty but then again in US , root doesnt void their warranty but in Msia , it does . And as for SME , nobody with KNOX trigger even gone in and got their warranty rejected BUT uncle Benny sent in his unit for warranty claim and approved . So question that remains unanswered by Samsung users now is , does triggering KNOX void the warranty ? Not like what u r saying

In Android 4.3, Android begins supporting Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux), a tool for applying access control policies. SELinux enhances Android security, and contributions to it have been made by a number of companies and organizations; all Android code and contributors are publicly available for review on this same site source.android.com. With SELinux, Android can better control access to application data and system logs, reduce the effects of malicious software, and protect users from potential flaws in mobile code.
In this release, Android includes SELinux in permissive mode and a corresponding security policy that works by default across the Android Open Source Project. In permissive mode, no actions are prevented. Instead, all potential violations are logged by the kernel to dmesg. This allows Android and Android device manufacturers to gather information about errors so they may refine their software and SELinux policies before enforcing them.
Background Used properly, SELinux greatly limits the potential damage of compromised machines and accounts. When you adopt SELinux, you instill a structure by which software runs at only the minimum privilege level. This mitigates the effects of attacks and reduces the likelihood of errant processes overwriting or even transmitting data.
SELinux provides a mandatory access control (MAC) umbrella over traditional discretionary access control (DAC) environments. For instance, software must typically run as the root user account to write to raw block devices. In a traditional DAC-based Linux environment, if the root user becomes compromised that user can write to every raw block device. However, SELinux can be used to label these devices so the user role assigned the root privilege can write to only those specified in the associated policy. In this way, root cannot overwrite data and system settings outside of the specific raw block device.
See the Use Cases section for more examples of threats and ways to address them with SELinux.

The project’s official description reads “SELinux is a security enhancement to Linux which allows users and administrators more control over access control.”
SELinux is a set of Open sourced and peer reviewed changes to the core Android Software stack to help prevent apps from performing malicious activities. This is done by establishing a set of policies that act as mandatory access controls (MAC). Depending on the policy, it can do things such as prevent apps from running or accessing specific data, to preventing root access altogether.
SELinux has wide-scale adoption throughout the linux landscape, with Fedora, Red Hat and others incorporating policies to better the system security. The default policies are usually written per distribution, by their maintainers – we have begun this process for CyanogenMod.
We will be working on this policy creation in parallel to Google’s own policies for Android, which we believe will be released with the Android 4.3 source; effectively getting us ahead of the eventual 4.3 source release. As this process is open source, policy creation and suggestions will be handled via our gerrit instance....

SELINUX can take one of these three values: >enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced. >permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing. >disabled - No SELinux policy is loaded.
FAQS? 1.Q:If my SELINUX status is on Enforcing or Permissive, is still have the chance to root and flash it? A:In other word..it doesn't matter your phone on permissive or enforcing status.
All I know while in permissive status..I can still mix and match the roms..kernel and modem. Maybe..just maybe when it's on enforcing mode you can't even change that after you flash custom roms or kernel.
And no...usb jig or TriangleAway won't effect that warranty flag.<-from waveweaver

5. About AOSP, [Android Open Source Project], differences and Touchwiz UI by Samsung and etc
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Very very briefly, you have 2 classes of ROMs for Android devices in general. One is based on stock ROMs for the device (TouchWiz in the case of Samsung), the other is based on Google's AOSP (Android Open Source Project).
TW (short for TouchWiz) based custom ROMs usually retain and ENHANCE the available stock apps, and give you some extra features like being able to control CPU speed, screen color values, switch DPI etc. They are also known as "cooked" ROMs, and the authors are called "chefs".
You usually get all the Samsung stuff available, unless it's a "slimmed" ROM where the chef has cut out what they feel is unnecessary.
AOSP ROMs, since they are from the freely available Google sources, can be recompiled by developers and features added, optimized or subtracted depending on the philosophy of the dev team. These are "compiled" ROMs and the developers are called developers, not chefs.
AOSP ROMS do not contain the Samsung specific features of TouchWiz like S-View or whatever "S-something" app bundled by Samsung, but since this is Android, there are either replacements or close equivalents of the same apps on the Play Store.
Note that even if you use AOSP, you DO NOT lose the S-pen function, only the S-applications that use it. Any other drawing app can still use the S-Pen.
It's all a personal preference and getting used to a specific ROM type's features. See post 9, the sifus there all use a wide variety of ROMs, and the "flashoholics" change ROMs as often as they, um, make their beds I suppose.
Choice is the key word of Android.
One thing to note, is the S-Note app. It is a fantastic piece of software from Samsung, but unfortunately it only works on the Note family. This is a form of lock in. To avoid this, I recommend HandyNote Pro or others here may recommend other S-pen note taking apps.

Bad news everyone! I've been hearing more from people in places associated with Samsung, and it is becoming more likely that this KNOX status is indeed an eFuse. I might talk to some Samsung guys myself this weekend, if there's anything interesting about that, I'll let you know.
Worse than that, I've also been hearing that service center instructions are indeed that devices with this status tripped will not receive any warranty repairs. (Of course, the action they take may still depend on the service center). Their excuse is that the hardware is damaged by the owner. Seems Samsung is catching up in scumbaggery to HTC, who years ago attributed my HTC Diamond's screen damage (digitizer detached) to the installation of HSPL
To anyone in the know it is obvious that this doesn't really fly, and the eFuse blowing (is this the hardware damage?) is intentionally done by the bootloader when unsigned software is loaded. One could even argue against the legality of that under EU regulations.
Anyway, of course there's that EU regulation (1999/44/CE) that is generally interpreted so that rooting/flashing may not break hardware warranty. As I've said again and again, this may be true, and you may be legally entitled to free repairs but this doesn't necessarily mean they'll actually repair your device.
Warranty needs to be provided by the seller, not by the manufacturer. The shop will usually depend on the manufacturer's warranty, though that's really none of your business or concern - your deal is with the seller. The shop will send you (or your device) to a service center, which may not be OEM operated or owned (but licensed instead) and are furthermore under no obligation whatsoever to repair your device if they don't want to. And if their instructions say to not repair in case X, then they will not, as the OEM will not reimburse them for the parts.
The shop will just tell you that the OEM says your breakage isn't covered by the warranty, and that will be that. You will have to slap said shop around a bit with EU regulations, and possibly take them to court before they will repair/replace your device. Even if you take them to court, and if you win (I've not seen or heard from such a case winning yet), you'd just be hurting the shop, it has no effect on the OEM, and you've probably spent a lot more time and money than you would've just buying a new device.
Only the OEM wins in this scenario, which is pretty sad, really.
Of course, I am not a lawyer, so take all this with a grain of salt From Chainfire's G+

No no I backed up on my S4 to my ext SD card. Then i factory resetted my phone and when it was done, I downloaded helium from play store again. Then I restored the data from my ext SD card lo. It's all in one phone bro.
QUOTE(waveweaver @ Nov 19 2013, 10:28 PM)
Ehh..it mean your app data already can be backup since you manage transfer it to your external sdcard. How bout games that it data stored in the phone internal storage..? Did you manage to transfer it to your sdcard also..?
QUOTE(Pyjamas999 @ Nov 19 2013, 11:24 PM)
No leh I did not transfer to my ext sd lol. I mean I backed up app+data to a folder 'carbon' located at my extsd using Helium. Then when I wanted to restore my apps I just selected them in helium and they were restored lo along with their data :-). Games I don't think whether like Gameloft the 1gb data you have to download will be restored, but the save game will be there. When I restored angry birds and where's my water it also restored my progress haha.
QUOTE(Pyjamas999 @ Nov 20 2013, 10:45 AM)
Nope my device wasn't rooted before or after. The difference is that if your device is rooted, all you have to do is install the app and done you're ready to backup.
However if you aren't rooted, then you have to install the app then download the windows helium program. This program (IMO) allows the app temporary root capabilities (ONLY helium app, and if you restart your phone that capability is lost). Its something like a tethered jailbreak for iOS, thats the best way to describe it haha :-D.
thanks for this 2 jokers to Demonstrate it , Pyjamas999 n waveweaver =P

The Exynos octacore is actually 2 quadcore processors : four high-performance ARM Cortex-A15 cores running at 1.60GHz, four low-power ARM Cortex-A7 cores with 1.20 GHz clock-speed as well as PowerVR SGX 544 graphics adapter. However, the Exynos 5410, though having eight cores but the phone will use only four at a time.
The technology used is called big.LITTLE and Samsung has taken a licence for it from ARM. In actual use, Galaxy S IV will use A7 cores while handling light work. For example, if you are making a call, the phone is likely to be powered by A7 cores. But if you are playing a demanding 3D game, it will switch off A7 cores and use A15 cores. At no point of time, the phone will use all eight cores simultaneously.
Samsung claims that this technology provides users best balance of performance as well as battery life. An important detail to note is that A15 cores are very powerful and even if only four of them are used in Exynos 5410, it is enough to make the device one of the most powerful smartphones in the market.
I am only looking forward to the Snapdragon model mainly due to LTE being enabled on it

Iphones seem to be more efficient processor wise when surfing. Thats why if iphone and like a flagship samsung device go head to head battery test both pure surfing, they actually last similarly. Because iphone dont eat that much juice while samsung eats a lot. But if a mix of uses then iphone would lose. Also I do get iphone heating up when I play extensive gaming. Surfing yea not so much. Its processor.
I dont think its much to worry about.
I recommend 1. Underclocking (I dont) 2. Undervolting (I do) 3. Both (youll see epic battery savings too)

Battery Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) First of all, it should be noted that most myths about mobile phone battery care originated from the days where nickel-cadmium (NiCad) based batteries were common years ago but the overwhelming majority of smartphone batteries used nowadays are lithium ion based smart batteries which doesn’t require these treatments. I’ve seen these questions asked again and again multiple times over multiple threads and I’ve decided to compile some information all over the internet to answer these questions.
Q: I heard that you need to do an initial charge of 8 hours before first use of the battery, is this true? A: There is no need to charge a Lithium ion battery to 100% or charge for long hours (priming), this doesn't work for li-ion chemistry, before using your device. It will not affect battery life in anyway. In fact, you can start using most modern smartphone batteries immediately right out of the box and it won’t cause any problems to the long term life of your battery.
Q: I heard that it’s good for the battery if you often charge it to 100% and use it until it’s almost out of power before recharging again to combat battery memory effects. In other words, I heard it’s good to do full discharges of the battery before recharging. Is this true? A: Batteries have a finite limited number of charge cycles and similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life, other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery once in a while between a few months. In other words, do not discharge lithium-ion too deeply. Instead, charge it frequently. Lithium-ion does not have memory problems like nickel-cadmium batteries. No deep discharges are needed for conditioning. Running a Lithium battery low all the time actually does harm it more than topping it off whenever possible. Using only 20% or 30% of the battery capacity before recharging will extend cycle life considerably. As a general rule, 5 to 10 shallow discharge cycles are equal to one full discharge cycle
Q: Somebody told me to not leave the phone connected to a charger for a long time to avoid overcharging and damaging the battery. Would that be correct? A: In most cases of modern lithium ion batteries, this is not a problem as these smart batteries are designed to cut the current when they reach a certain charge level and will use a bit of their own power before they start charging again and since lithium ion batteries have no memory effects, this is not a problem. There is no danger of the battery being overcharged. People seem to misunderstand about this point because a lack of knowledge and also advices with other batteries for example with laptops where people are usually advised to take the lithium batteries out if it’s not going to be used for a long time. People don’t realise in that case that the risk is actually the heat coming from operation of the computer instead of overcharging.
Q: How should I store my battery if I’m not going to be using it for a while? eg. storing phone away or spare battery. A: The worst way to store a battery is to store it fully charged in places with high temperatures. The best common way to store your smartphone battery is to store it away with power levels of between 40%-60% and in places where it’s likely to stay at a comfortable temperature.

1. go to /system/etc 2. open up default_gain.conf 3. notice the term "output volume" or "speaker volume", if applied the patch will be 63, so this is the value you are gonna change 4. how do you find what you wanna edit? well, see the term "modifier"? thats like the which part of the audio output to configure for your device, then there is this "SupportedDevice }" line, below it will determine what output hardware it will be going to use to sing, in there, find the line {"Speaker Volume", 63} and adjust values 5. You can also boost/reduce ringtone loudness by going to the modifier "Ringtone" and change the "speaker volume" 6.save it and reboot

Please use some caution when deleting apps, just because they are 'safe' to remove doesn't mean you won't need them. For example: DO NOT delete GoogleContactsSycAdapter.apk if you need to sync your Google contacts. I have deleted everything on this list from my system apps as they are things I don't use.
I actually NEVER REMOVE system apps completely. I MOVE them to a folder on my external SD. That way if I ever want anything back I can simply copy it back again. I would suggest you do the same.

Weehoo !! Just received my Slickwraps orange carbon fiber for my SGS4 !!!!
So without a further ado, lets get started with the little review
first of all, quality, its fking nice except you really have to be precise and accurate when you're applying it. once you're getting out of patience, say goodbye to your sticker lol
nah, just kidding, Slickwraps is genius, if you fked your sticker, you can always apply small amount of heat on the sticker to make it turn back to its original state, applause for them
from this angle, you could really see my mistake (blame me, i was a lil bit excited back then )
luckily i could apply the front sticker correctly
another side angle view
here are the items that will be given when you ordered one :- 1) full body wrap 2) Clear HD screen protector 3) microfiber cleaning cloth 4) a pair of cards/instruction to remove bubbles 5) a code for your next purchase ( discounts will be given if you submit the codes
in conclusion, its really worth the money since i bought it during school holiday sale which cost me rm50 only. it will protect my phone nicely since i usually put my phone in my bag, and since im a student, i rarely go outwith its thin and light profile, it will not make your phone looks bulkier but makes your phone looks just nice and beautiful
A WARNING THOUGH, I WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO YOU GUYS WHO ARE A LITTLE BIT CLUMSY WITH THEIR PHONES LIKE ACCIDENTALLY SLIPPED THEIR PHONE AWAY FROM THEIR HANDS, BECAUSE ITS A WRAP, NOT A CASE. IT WILL NOT PROTECT YOUR PHONE AS GOOD AS A CASE. SO, I RECOMMEND YOU GUYS TO GET A CLEAR CASE OR A POUCH TO PROTECT YOUR PHONE. AGAIN, ITS A WRAP/STICKER, NOT A CASE. P/S :- TLDR ?, build quality is nice, Slickwraps said it can last for years if you handle it with care, good for people who like to go out with his or her phone naked
* i dont apply side wraps cuz i really like the plastic painted bumper ** time taken to apply may vary, it depends on your patience and skills

Still very satisfied with S4, a bit small when looking at news pages but overall sharp. Combined with satisfyingly super smooth glass.t nano screen and my Slim Armor View case, it somehow still wow me when I look at it and use it.
Anyway, yesterday night, when taking photo with auto night mode on (activated), the processing time on every take is abt 2-3 second (can see the word "processing" with progress bar). Have to wait for completion of the progress before snapping another photo.
Today testing again on morning (now), it seems almost instantaneous (no processing word, just snap and can snap another one almost straightaway.
Does night mode slow down processing time after every photo click? Also since update to the latest OTA update (when it was release...somewhere last week or so kuah), camera sometime will stop running. Have to reboot system.

So, as we had the Octa-Core (GT-I9500) variant of the Galaxy S4, we decided to do some benchmarks. We are just BLOWN away from the results we got. The Galaxy S4 crushed every other device, even the HTC One and the Sony XPERIA Z. We used Antutu and Quadrant as our benchmark tools. The device received a score of 27417 on Antutu and 12726 on Quadrant.
Our full review of the Galaxy S4 will come at the end of April, so stay tuned for that!

My mum would give me RM7 everyday cuz my school ends at 2.40pm . If ive to stay back till 5 or 5.30, she would give me RM10
But i dont use my money at all unless i feel hungry because, i find it its useless to eat because my reccess time is at 11.10am where most of the foods have been taken by the lower secondary forms

Which method do you use to update ? Via Kies or OTA ? Have you tried factory reset ? Not sure thou, ask other sifus like mudkipryan94 or waveweaver . Btw do you use and unknown sources apps or root required apps ?
Via ota. Not yet factory reset. Lazy to install back.

I got that prompt when connecting to free nando wifi. Wth??
4.3 so far so good on i9500. No factory reset has been done since there is no problem whatsoever. It does feel smoother though and faster camera start.

Better get a new S3 if I were you. S3 will be getting its 4.3 within this few weeks.
I would suggest u to get LTE phone. I believe eventually all telco are going to offer LTE for all customers. It is your choice, to pay the same amount of money for 3G or LTE speed.

Get the S3 LTE then...comes with 2GB RAM somemore..
this considered normal if its an OEM smartphone. you should use Nexus if you want a blotware-free smartphone btw why dont you connect your phone to the charger ?
i connected my phone to charger while updating to 4.3, the red light is not on , but the phone is warm ..not sure if it really charge the battery or not ? ..LOL

i tried building tumbnail cache... same thing happens... i even clean the gallery cache to rebuild again... same shit... Could it be possible when I was in UK for 2 weeks, i updated to the UK firmware instead of SEA one?

What is the firmware you're on now..? BTW..no need to clear the Gallery cache..just let it finish first.
Just to avoid confusion, I meant that I might want to wait until KitKat is released on the S4 then upgrade, rather than proceeding with 4.3, followed by 4.4 later.

Yes..but you will need to wait months before it arrive for S4. And you will be sticker at 4.2.2 at the meantime.
u mad bro? got paranoid android mah and how's the Knox on your s3? wa.. using what screen protector wor?
of course, now you must belanja me
And he said that hes using glass screen protector. I thought its pretty nor.al for the air gesture to be like, less responsive because of the thickness of the glass ?

Just update now, waiting for KK4.4 is going to a pain the ass bro

okay.jpg... Kit-Kat Mocha incoming
actually is related the thickness also la..(accuracy also have leh.. ) like last time of noobies of me simply apply SP
so i just watch some guide for DIY to Applying SP..
me..(used at DMH6 firmware before) just improves a bit bit(4%) nia ... still prefer WLD and GSAm b.monitor
I have also installed the WLD, but I'm wondering how to optimize using it, I only can see what are the apps usage, mine is mainly 90% deep sleep and the 10% is awake time. Mostly used is the 1013 service.

1013 is AudioOut2...nothing can be done with that unless you disable all your heptic..notification.. Keyboard sound..etc..etc
how do u know apps that are free on certain day? how i can show all the toggle switch in the pull down notification? after updating to 4.3 the switches there becomes fewer
Look at top right hand corner..got setting icon and view all toggle icon.
Ehh..!? Look at four little square icon...tap it and it will open all toggles for viewing.
that is ok. but lets say if i want to view all the toggle in a row in the notification panel. then i can just slide left or right to navigate all the toggle

yeah..but only for 10 or 12 only. If you use the icon can see all
How of u guys using S4 Active ? Is this model is really worth of money to buy?
Besides Water Resistance and Dust Proof Advantages, Camera Downgraded to 8mp and Display Panel only TFT LCD only. No doubt It has Powerfull Processor Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600.

LOL...juz update whenever there is an update... if u skip 4.3 update and wait for 4.4 , do we need to install 2 times when 4.4 reach ? LOL
Nahh..am already use 4.3 long time ago with custom rom. And no..there's no need to install two times if skip 4.3 as you can straight away manually flash 4.4 when it's available.
You're using 9500 or 9505..? Knox still 0x0...or already 0x1..? If Knox already 0x1 then you can safely root using Chainfire CF-Autoroot method. Fast and easy

Ehh..!? That's depend... - if already on 4.3 firmware but still Knox 0x0 meaning cannot root safely without knocking it to 0x1 hence no warranty. - if already on 4.3 firmware but Knox already 0x1 then can easily root the phone coz warranty already void.
- if still on 4.2.2 with no Knox bootloader (up to BMG5 for 9505) then can root without any problem and warranty still valid.

so end of the day , 4.3 cannot root d lo if want warranty right ...
As for now is permissive..owh man..i hate this..as it is 4.2.2, not yet flash to 4.3...
Then you can safely root your phone now. Use CF-Autoroot is the easiest way. Unfortunately there still no way to reset binary counter for the 9500 version so literally your warranty will still be void if you root your phone
Mine just updated to 4.3 and its show Enforcing.. That shows I cant root the set. Anyway Current Stock Rom quite fluid and smoother than 4.2.2..I guess I will keep it stock and use for awhile..

Yes..no problem with Odin. Only thing is...you cannot downgrade your firmware to old non Knox bootloader. The flashing will fail without reason..lolz
any idea when will 4.4 be released for S4? Its sad to see we just got 4.3 while others are heading towards 4.4. Kit Kat is suppose to bring a lot of difference in terms of performance.

You sure bro ? AFAIK, not even Nexus devices have receive KK4.4 update.
Just updated to the new firmware. What's this TouchWiz thing that pops up when I press the home button? Never seen that in my entire life. Usually I press the home button to immediately go to the home page. Now I have to press the back button?

is there any way i can arrange the pic in an album? i reset the phone and now the gallery album is a mess
Normally i use an app called QuickPic, where there is an option to 'fix date' for the photos in an album. Might not work perfectly all the time, but at least it gets the job done
anyone noticed that with night mode on, it takes quite a while to take a photo..
Have you compared to other phones? In night mode, the shutter speed is slower so that it can capture more light.
In DSLR, you can adjust these shutter speed so that it is slower. Otherwise, night shot will be very dark since no light is coming in. Think how people takes photos of the stars, they use really long shutter speed.
I cannot access to data although I have turn it on using my s4. The data icon not appearing. Not sure is it because of andriod 4.3? Anyone experiences this and how to solve?

which telco u using? im on android 4.3 , maxis..no such issue
I did face cannot access data, random reboot, battery depleting fast. So i did what some sifu advice. Factory reset. Now working flawlessly without problem. U should try factory reset ur phone.
may i ask whats the difference between the version i have and the new LTE ones?
is it a significant difference?
ntg much actually. physically it is the same. the difference is at the processor. the LTE has 4 cores while the non-LTE has 8 cores hence the name octa core.

ah ok..thanks for the info! apparently the new processor has a wayyy longer lasting battery life
note to self : never ever be first wave user again :/
any1 using swype keyboard? or swiftkey is better in terms of swiping texting
I tested Swype a year ago and it seems to be more accurate at swiping the words. Swiftkey can have both english and malay dictionary used at a time (max 3 languages opened).

recently my s4 not enough space... so what I did was I went to My Files and Move all my pictures and videos into my external memory card to free up some space.
However.. all the pictures I moved to the external memory doesn't show up under Gallery anymore. I'd it possible to make Gallery detect my photos in the external memory and display them as well?

Btw, i found out that the camera a bit different, I had compared side by side with S4 and and S4-LTE, LTE seems like able to give better result, maybe just for the unit I have. Anyone try that before?

I bought swiftkey. Swype may be better at swiping but swiftkey just feels right overall. Both apps have free trials. Try both and see which one you feel more comfortable.
yeah, it because i9500 uses different camera sensor than i9505
Yeah this is true. It's already been proven on xda (if I'm not mistaken) that the camera sensor in i9500 is Sony's Exmor RS, whereas the i9505 is Exmor R

Icic, but dunno why for me i9505 seems like perform better in low light.

erm much slower compared to my note 2.. haha but i guessed its like what u said, the shutter speed is the main reason for this..
anyone using feedly under 4.3? it is utterly lag and completely unusable.. fuk s4 >< i installed the 4.3 fresh using ODIN.. i asked my fren try also same.. sigh..

i had the same problem too after update to 4.3 via OTA but once did factory reset its now super smooth.
really? but i upgrade via ODIN, i reset everything becos i came from custom firmware, i reset first via recovery then i use ODIN install 4.3 from sammobile.
This is android OS....take it or leave it ... U can't expect lag free from android ... Sorry to say ,only iOS can do that ..my next phone will be iPhone 7 .... After 1yrs+ ...

I am uncertain what happened, either an update or a bad app, but this is the sequence of weird things that started happening: - first my adaway does not work, every time i go to the app is says adaway is disabled. - then I started seeing some games apps appearing on my phone - i tried removed many free games apps - but now my phone starts to hang, mostly system UI having problem.
I have apex launcher, but after restart I always have to reset defaults, and now I know how to clear defaults already.
I have torchlight toggle but now it takes about 30 seconds to turn it on, previously was instant.
Many other weird things like when a call comes in, I cannot swipe to answer.
SMS comes in, but it gets enlarge and the keyboard is hidden so I cannot type.
I'm using Omega v14.1. Is it the rom or I caught virus or something? I've always had Antivirus Free and Clueful. Everytime there is a new app installation or app update, they would scan it automatically. I have not received any warnings.

What are my options now? Thanks
Why would you use antivirus in the first place ? since deleting apps do not help you now, factory reset is the only way to go
Better not use antivirus? It is available in the market so I tried it. Every now and then I do often try some free apps: editor picks etc...
Ive never use antivirus before for my android phone. I find myself hard to download games amd stuffs unless there are free apps to be downloaded thats why ive never bother to use one
anyone using feedly under 4.3? it is utterly lag and completely unusable.. fuk s4 >< i installed the 4.3 fresh using ODIN.. i asked my fren try also same.. sigh..
Seriously bro? I'm using feedly with no problems. Very smooth. No lag whatsoever.
yeah very serious, asked my friend install also same, both using i9500. what version is ur sgs4? is it i9505?
Yeah. i9505. But it shouldn't make any difference. Both RAM's 2GB, so it wont lag. I do monitor how much memory it uses, quite a lot (from 700mb free, when feedly opened, only left 300-400mb.).

im scared the app is not yet fully compatible with JB4.3 Exynos 5 devices.

i think yes, qualcomm processor is better and more stable compared to samsung inhouse processor. Last time hummingbird also like tat, then s2 one also.. no more samsung product for me.

you do realize that most of Samsung products usually have 2 type of processor aite ? why dont you get the other one instead ? not being a fanboy thou, cuz S4 will be my first and last Samsung device

I'm not sure about that. I chose i9505 bcoz of the LTE, and with Maxis unlimited internet = win!

Yeah. S4 will be my last Samsung phone too. When the time comes, hopefully in 2-3 years time, I'll jump ship to either Nexus or HTC phones.

well, in my hometown, there is no LTE, so i don feel like paying more for the LTE one, samsung said there is no difference in them, but it turns out that, the difference is there. Most of the ppl using snapdragon are prone to less problem.
Anyone noticed after upgrading to 4.3, there is no more option for Kies over WiFi? So now have to use cable only for Kies or use Kies Air.
Not only this, the Outlook sync (calendar, Task) also been removed. I've been using these features although it still has some bugs. I saw the reply from other forum said that Samsung removed it because not many people using these features
Have to think of other ways to do these now.

I found a very useful website about rooting WITHOUT tripping KNOX, but sadly it's only for i9500 (and other devices such as Note 3), at the moment. Watched it at this YouTube video.
s4 is the main cause many people here don't want to use samsung anymore.
Well for me its not S4. I dont want to use Samsung anymore because of KNOX. But since Enforced SELinux is now available on KK4.4 onwards, i guess its pretty much the same, more or less
I notice after 3days using 4.3 on 9500. Battery life getting better on heavy usage and no more extreme heat on the phone. Just abit lag when ram is almost full usage.
Try doing a factory reset bro =) might help! cause my i9500 doesn't cause me any issues after 4.3 update. Many reported that the battery has a slight improvement.
Manually flash lar..much faster n easier. or try Kies.
been quite bz now,.kies also cant update due to diff country code now want to flash but this will be my first time flashing,.so a bit scared,. if i flash using odin,.will i receive the smal update like 40 mb ota or i have to flash back everything again,. this is my first samsung and have no flashing exp,.never root any phone,.jangan marah ye
I don't know if it's true, but there's certainly cause for concern.

For manual flashing..you need to download the latest M'sian full stock firmware from Sammobile.com. Then you extract the firmware zip files to .tar.md5 files and then you flash it using Odin.
btw..flashing stock firmware does not need any rooting
Guys wanna ask.. after upgrade to 4.3, did you guys still receive notification or warning when battery low like before? because mine dont receive any notification for battery low like before.. is it me only or other have the same problem?

I did receive those notifications. Hmmm, you'll need factory reset i guess. So far mine is all good!
emm.. already factory reset 2 times.. still the same.. weird.. T_T
Hmmm. That's weird. Seems no one facing the issue right now. Try some simple troubleshooting. Drain ur battery completely for today and take the battery off then put it back in and let's see if it helps.
i update via kies lo.. dunno what problem.. dont have any sound or alert.. Y_Y
I think if you can bare with it awhile longer, since in india there was a new update yesterday which supposedly fixes all the issues with the 4.3 update for i9500
What surprised me abit was how samsung managed to screw this initial update up in the first place . On xda people are stating that it broke the hardware acceleration drivers (web browsing, using Pulse app for news isnt as enjoyable as in 4.2.2. Try using a third party browser and scroll --> somewhat feels like my SGS1 ) and other issues like yours.
Anyways we just have to wait a few more days hopefully for the update to roll out in msia

Haha yeah blame samsung basically any app that takes advantage of hardware acceleration will be stuttery now... I even had to delete Timely Alarm Clock because it just wouldnt work and kept force closing. I liked it alot lol samsung hurry up and release the update for msia!

This application is currently under review, XDA is in contact, and working with Kingo to resolve security issues, however until certain guidelines are met links will not be allowed in xda.

I factory reset my phone right after the upgrade and it just seems to drain battery faster....Maybe due to mobile data being switched on for the whole day? I even put auto brightness, turned off smart features and air view. The only thing i turn on is the gestures and motion.

I'm trying to install KingCobra rom, but it seems very complicated trying to install the rom from Omega 4.2.2
Is it much easier to go back to stock rom from Omega, then update to 4.3, and then install KingCobra?
This is the installation instruction, and I'm stuck at step 4:
Scenario 3: You are rooted and are on custom roms or a custom pit (adonis_c.pit comes with 11.82 gb storage which is incompatible with 4.3 firmwares.
1. Flash pit seperately without the firmware package in odin v3.09 2. Perform a battery pull then put the battery back 3. Go into download mode (when phone is switched off press and hold power button+volume down+home button). 4. Flash the 4 package file AP=previously PDA BL=bootloader CP=Modem CSC=file starting with CSC 5. Flash cf autoroot by chainfire by putting it in AP

That methoid is quite troublesome for. Use this one instead.

How to do it:
Step 1) Turn OFF your mobile and go to Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home Buttons together for few seconds followed by Power button then proceed with volume up.
Step 2) Now open ODIN on your PC and connect your Galaxy S4 to your computer.
Step 3) Once your phone is successfully connected to your PC, the ID:COM box on ODIN will turn blue (or yellow) and will show the COM port number.
Step 4) unzip the downloaded firmware (from second or third post), u will get a Home.tar file.
Step 5) click on pda in odin (if odin 3.09 choose AP) and choose the file "Home.tar"
Step 6) check "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options and make sure that "Re-Partition" is unchecked
!!!!DO NOT CHECK "Nand Erase All" IN ANY WAY!!!!
Step 7) Click on Start button in ODIN window to start the flashing process. The process will take few minutes to complete.
DO NOT UNPLUG USB CABLE WHILE EXECUTING THE PROCESS, YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Step 8) When the installation is completed, you read a "Reset " then a "Pass". your phone will restart (first boot will take a longer time so don't panic)
It is recommended to make hard reset after flashing to have a fresh official firmware
