Question to those that have been using the Cash Back Gold Mastercard..

Looking at the cashback % table, there's a max rebate cap.. E.g. if you spend 500, cashback is 2% and cap is RM 10.

therefore, even if i spend 799, my cashback is still capped at RM 10, right?

so, a strategy to maximize cashback would be to always push it to the next tier if it's already close to it? e.g. swipe RM 1 online transaction to get into the 3% tier, instead of using UOB VOX/PBB VS for their 6%?
*
you most probably got confused by the ringgitplus, the cash back will not calculated by all the amount you spent x the max tier

the calculation will 1st deduct the previous tier's amount then times the percentage

update :sorry, i mixed up this with alliance younique

this card you were right about it, you need to spend till 800 to enjoy the new tier, but you should spend until 833 to enjoy full rm25 rebate, if you spend only 800, the rebate only rm24, haha

ya.. this card is different from you:nique, because the % cashback is on total (not tiered)..

but my opinion is, the % cashback mentioned is kind of redundant/useless because we'll always be limited by the rebate cap per tier..

if i were to spend RM 700 on retail transactions, instead of 2% of RM 700 (which is RM 14), I will only get RM 10 due to the rebate cap..

This would mean, the cash back I would get would always be as follow:
RM 10 if I spend between RM 500 to RM 799.99: effective cashback of 1.25% to 2%
Between RM 24 - RM 25 if I spend between RM 800 - RM 833.33: effective cashback of 3% (this is the only range where the % cashback is relevant)
RM 25 if I spend between RM 833.34 to RM 1499.99: effective cashback of 1.66% to 3%
RM 50 if I spend RM 1500 or more: effective cashback of up to 3.33%

still one of the better "generic" cashback cards.. just need to monitor more..

Only the extra RM1 will enjoy the new tier's rebate %

oh? SC's rebate is on total, no? so by spending that 1%, I will push the entire total into the 3% tier? total cash back would be RM 24 (for RM 800 spending) instead of RM 10 (for RM 799 spending).

extra RM 24 by swiping additional RM 1..

agree, i think they just simplify it was because not all ppl have good in "figures", they will start asking why 1.25% to 2%

most of the foreign bank have this kind of "confusing" tier table, same goes to alliance, if you go to ringgitplus website, they even wrongly put the cashbate amount

It depends on when the merchant do the settlement. Normally will be 2-3 days.

Its based on the date u swipe not the posting

If u swipe the transaction on 28th june and transaction posted on 2nd july it will still count as june 1 to 31th june transaction

But read the tnc states must posted on the same month:

A month is defined as the period which runs from the first day of a particular calendar month to the last day of that calendar month. Retail purchases must be posted to your account within a particular month to be included towards meeting the minimum of RM500 per month in retail purchases. If a transaction is posted in the following month, it will only be included in the following month’s calculation. Please note that transactions may be posted by the merchant as late as 30 days after the transaction date.

I think the statement is the reason y u said transaction date within same month will be granted cashback. Coz I check my transaction posted today, the date will still shown as our transaction date, since no posting date appear in our statement, so, SCB can't accuse that the transaction post late.. So, no matter how they need to grant us cashback..

Going by the discussion here, I suppose it's safe to conclude that the transaction date is key to determine whether transactions fall into a particular calendar month's cashback quota? So to sum it up:

Cashback quota cycle: Calendar month
Cashback tracking: Transaction date

Yes. But you only get 3.33%, not 5%, if you know how to calculate the effective cashback rate.
