Some updates.

I re-scaped my tank and more importantly, I changed my previously overkill LED light to one of those RGB type LED's. Really worth the money. It's way dimmer (controllable with the remote control) and at the same time, I can see the shrimps clearly since can tune the color to highlight red. Being dimmer, my shrimps don't hide as much anymore smile.gif

Unfortunately the photos don't show the effect

Hi Sniper,

I'm new to shrimp keeping. Mind to share what kind of light did you get? I'm interested to get one to replace my current LED light (use for planted tank) which is too bright and can't be adjusted. Whenever it is switched on the shrimps will become panic and run for place to hide.

It is carpet marimo ball , these marimo be cut open to become carpet.
You have around 4 male fire red there, one or two got good color as well. Maintain your tds at 160-200, they will breed like mad.

i have 8 of them, got them from a friends who smuggle them from Japan in a small bottle.
i transferred them a big 2 gallon tank, one berried, but now they all hide inside the stone cave, with algae around tank, they hardly come out
to feed on the food i give them.

You have such a good friend to get some for you. You are one lucky guy. Got extra to sell ah? It looks like the Hawaii Red Shrimp in the your photo has eggs under her belly, right?

Shrimping is not easy like buying fish. Need to check what type of shrimp and whats the conditions to keep them. So please check on this before you decide to buy any shrimps at LFS. My suggestion is dont kill them cause of your ignorant. Do a lot of readings, ask the LFS more info of the shrimps type and check online. There are so many info you can find.

Reading means you get info about water i.e need to cycle your water before you can put in the shrimps and how to put in your shrimp in new tank, what soil to use, what to feed etc etc.

Unless u have money to throw away, then its diff case but poor shrimps...

Here is some list to help you out, Arrow did everything on 1st page to refer:-

Neocaridina type consist of the most common Cherry shrimp, Fire red, Yellow, Blue Jelly, Palmata etc.
Caridina type consist of the Crystal Red/Black shrimp, Green shrimp, Malaya, Sulawesi shrimp, Tiger shrimp etc.

Nice and clean tank. Can you share some of your experience? I did it once before, basically just to remove the flora out of the tank while the shrimps still in it. Somehow it's turns out just a mess.

Gonna start my shrimp tank re-scaping soon. What i'll use back is the water from the previous tank. Not so sure about the soil though.

Yeah, experience the same mess during previous setup. Because my tank is in the office, so cannot afford to make too much of a mess so the plants I used are not rooted to the soil. Either tied to driftwood or ceramic pieces. The substrate itself is shrimp soil which is not fertilized so the only mess I got was from detritus.

So just turn off filter, siphon off all the obvious/larger pieces of crap and pour the water slowly back into the tank over a net stuffed filter floss.... repeat a few times until satisfied.

Then ran 2 filters to polish the water overnight.

That's basically it.

Maybe is the shrimp soils that make a diffs comparing with other soils. So i assume all your shrimps are all removed from the tank and keeping it with the existing water from the tank right?

Yup, shrimps kept in another tank with existing water which I also re-filtered through filter floss.
