What a sad day. Woke up to find 4 dead Malayan shrimps in my tank, then only realized I forgot to switch on the air pump the night before cry.gif cry.gif
*
have a same situation with you, 4 malaya shrimp dead 2 days, but not because i forgotten to switch off the co2, is i increase co2 to kill BBA. Seems i've accidentally increase it too much for the shrimps to take. Fishes are ok...

I need air pumps because bio load in my tank is high as I keep 5 guppies in a 30cm tank and about 8-9 Malayan (totally no idea why everytime I notice fewer and fewer Malayan shrimps  shakehead.gif )

Haven't noticed any bio film lately hmm.gif
I usually on before lighting period and off after lighting period. Or I'll make sure CO2 indicator turns lime green before turning it off.
IIRC your CO2 indicator is orange in colour right?
*
Not Orange, is yellow in the morning. lol

Use no planaria to nuke them.

On another note... migrated all my shrimps to the new tank. So far so good.
*
What's the best way to migrate the shrimplets? Would like to re-scape my shrimp tanks, hope there's no casualties..

Leech are hitchhiking on plants and sometime on shrimp you bought.
They won't suddenly be born out of the soil. Feeding live food is one of the possible way to bring them into tank too.

ooooO. Thanks for the note biggrin.gif

QUOTE(whitehawk @ Nov 1 2013, 02:05 AM)
-how thick is your ADA soil ?
my ADA soil 2cm thick

-Did you add in any powder/liquid bacteria to aid in tank cycle?
yes. i put 5 ADA element below the soil.  Bacter 100, Clear super, Tourmaline BC, Penac P and Penac W

-and did you add in any new plant/moss few days or during the time you put in the shrimp?
Nope

-Have you done few large water change prior on getting the shrimp?
i do 50% water change two days before getting the shrimp

-Your shrimp swim/dash fast all over your tank before drop down and died? or they keep themselves under rock/plant all the time?
they keep themselves under rock/plant and sometimes swimming around

-How high is your tank temperature?
my range temperature between 26-29

i think my tank not fully cycled yet and ph too low

This probably the cause of the casualties, shrimp tank need to be cycle a lot more longer than planted tank.

It's been a while since i got my Malaya shrimps from arrow. Their colors keep changing and amuse me alot, but particular to one of these that change into blueish color, while the rest still remain as brownish or even dark brown with golden stripe at the back.

Somehow it reminds me Blue Jelly shrimp but in gigantic size laugh.gif laugh.gif

This is the second so blue Transparent blue malaya that i saw so far . Very Nice.
*
Indeed, could hardly to see them transform into such colors. Depends the mood of the shrimps, lol.

My water temp is 27'c and pH 6.5-7 most of the time. Didn't check on GH and nitrates, just assume it's good as there's no casualties for Malaya and Fire Red. This is the second time it turns.

Here's my crowded tank, mostly Java moss, bit of Flame moss, Fissiden and etc..

For the past 1 and a half month, this is the second time it turns blue. The first time was not as blue as the picture, so i'll just skip it.

Thanks laugh.gif but i think the Java moss is over crowding the tank, it's time for trimming and i have to be extremely becareful, tiny shrimplets are all around the moss. Or i just plan for re-scaping down the road... brows.gif

monitor your tank, and remove it manually if you can.

A little update on my Sulawesi tank, got 2 hours free time today to setup the tank.

Setup sequence and stuff used :
2ft Tank bottom > Benibachi Bacter Base > Benibachi Bee Max & Mineral Powder > around 2.5cm thick of Benibachi Fulvic soil > Soil Top lay 2kg of Benibachi Mineral rock & one big Alkaline type lava rock.
After filled with water ,run sponge filter and dose 30ml Benibachi Active Water to kick-start the bacteria for tank cycle.
Now the waiting game begin.

2kg mineral rock in there.  As soil is new ph still low. That why need that big alkaline lava rock to help buffer up ph.
Benibachi ph up is out of stock. Will use that later.
This tank need at least 3mth to ready for sulawesi.
*
Interesting... 3 months for the tank to cycle, that's gonna be after CNY

Tank cycle is like 2-3week , can be hurried up if i want but not necessary cos i'm trying to build up the hair algae colony in it.
Tzuen , know any LFS selling that Sera sponge filter i use in the my tank?, the shop i getting from is out of stock, NA , East Aqua and 88 petsmart all don't have or ever sell that before cos of the price.
*
Morning bro.

is it a must for you to get Sera brand? Cause ive just check with Fish Deport, they carry Sera brand but not the sponge filter. They only have Bio form filter with sponge and dophins SF15.

By the way, have you check with Shrimp Friends Malaysian ?

i choose sera cos of it compact efficient size and the grey sponge color, mr.park didn't sell sera sponge,
guess sponge usage is not that popular and sera brand price of rm36 for 60L capacity sponge not competitive enough,
but like ADA stuff, you pay for quality.
Every morning i take a peek at the small hair algae patch, it like not growing , phew... algae also not easy to cultivate,
need other elements for it to boom. already dose 2 x fert , light on 24 hrs.
*
O.. Did ADA have sponge filtration system as well? Using Pro Z led lights to cultivate the algae, you thin it works? What about T5 lights with 14W each bulb and on for 24 hours tongue.gif tongue.gif

no need to pre-wet it, since you are using the ugf system then put a thin layer of soil like 1cm thick on top of bacter base then dust the B100 then cover by the rest of the soil.

ugf -> bacter base -> thin layer of soil -> B100 -> rest of the soil.

It depend on which brand of UGF you getting, i'm using Aquadene brand of UGF, very good quality, around rm20 for 2ft size, it can break into 4 pcs half feet size plate.

I personally don't like rounded edge tank, if i have to get one, when displaying will use the curved side as behind tank.
*
How is the bottom gravel works? Using air pump? For 2 feet tank, If using air pump, does the air pump power enough to clean up the bottom waste? hmm.gif
