What water did you use?
RO or tap water?
You'll only need gh and tds reader if you use soil as substrate..
they are not as expensive.

How much have you spent to buy your shrimps?

Honestly, if you wanna go into caridina shrimps, then you'll prepare to spend a bit, otherwise it's just a waste of time and money in buying shrimps.

I think Neocaridina shrimps suits you better.

Lastly, what's the water temperature?

neo could survive better in your tank.
cycling of a shrimp tank takes 30 days.

caridina shrimps can do well between 24-26°C

It looks like java moss to me in your picture.

abnormal behaviour, shrimps are not schooling category, they normally wander the entire tank.

there are expensive caridinas which can cost you few hundred bucks to few thousand each, there's a price to pay if you want to have good quality caridinas.

however, for those cheap caridinas, are normally the culled or the lower grade that's why it's cheap. Have you seen SGD5,000 a pair shrimps?

So for the lower grade caridinas vs neo, neo seems like more expensive right?

Neo is generally more hardy and more so you should test your water right? given that the cheaper shrimps - neo also behaving weirdly in your tank. You wouldn't want to waste money keep buying shrimps also right.

By the way, you should not mix 2 different types of neo in the same tank, they would cross breed and you would get funny funny offspring.

Ya..
The previous shrimps
R more active than this

I have been observing them
They seem to b grazing
Mayb they r still gettin used to d bright environ
As the breeders tank was slimy
So thick with algae tht
The shrimps r not visible
I might pull my lights higher
As now its max brightness
As i want the moss to grow fast

For time being i oni got 1 tank
But i stil wana enjoy the colors
smile.gif
I m itchy to get the green & blue ones
But holding myself back
Probably will get another tank if they stabilise

Its a realy enjoyable pastime
I hope it doesnt bcome an obsession
As i knw hobbyists can get so into d hobby
& spend a lot of money for the exotic
as time goes by
Guess tht y i m so itchy
To get the crystals haha..
Okok
Better not

Wonder if this guy is infected
Or he just happen to have funky spots ?

No idea as I don't keep neocaridina shrimps.

But this looks to me like a low grade painted fire red shrimp. if it's behaving healthily, then theres nothing to worry.

all the best in your shrimp journey.

this is limpet or i call it as garden snails, they will breed in no time and flood your tank.

nothing bad, just an eye sore to me at least. It would be better if you kill them off.

i don't like all these pest snails. it comes together from your plant, most likely.

So it's important to either:

1. get tissue cultured plant, or
2. quarantine and kill off all the pests in the newly acquired plants before placing them into your tank.

harmless but I dont like it lay egg around the glass...
and it will breed like crazy

Nowaday, when I took new plant in, I quarantine with plant with snail medic for 2 day before putting to my tank.
(do take note, anything kill snail also kill shrimp, so rinse throughly)
