Hi all,

Looking to get mineral for my shrimp tank setup

Anyone using Akedemi brand?
https://shopee.com.my/Neocaridina-Shrimp-Mi...5164.1984844968
https://shopee.com.my/Caridina-Shrimp-Miner...5164.1984870963

Still dilemma to focus or Caridina or Neocaridina

Next does those so call Shrimp Backteria is crucial? Or can just let tank grow own backteria?

the crystal shrimp seem to b more aggressive
when bump with the cherry
the cherry sure give way
even the bigger one

i saw a crystal
steal food from a cherry

is it better to separate them ?
*
what "crystal" shrimp?? if you mean those cheap feeder shrimp. Yes

Even Amano is 3-4x bigger than neo-c so if limited food amano will grab first.
Amano also kind of aggressive chasing food.

bigger normally wins
mayb need to feed more
so everyone got chan to eat haha

the crystal caradina
they seem tougher than the cherries
the body looks hard & bulky
tempted to give it a squeeze
*
wow, Caridina easy cost 3-5x than normal Neo Caridina

If you go deep you must know both type living in different water parameter.
Refer here.https://theaquariumadviser.com/shrimp-breed...7.5%20and%208.5.

So you need get a stable water parameter before introduce any shrimp (GH, KH, N02, No3, PH etc)
Water parameter highly impact by substrate you using etc...

If you just wanna easy maintain, always choose red cherry, RM2+ only, get 10, if they like the water, they breed like crazy.

Again, DONT over feed shrimp, waste of food is very bad to water.
Shrimp eat anyting grow inside tank... control feeding also meaning control the population

Welcome to shrimp world

I notice a lot of baby snails
Infesting my tank
Wonder if they r good / bad
*
harmless but I dont like it lay egg around the glass...
and it will breed like crazy

Nowaday, when I took new plant in, I quarantine with plant with snail medic for 2 day before putting to my tank.
(do take note, anything kill snail also kill shrimp, so rinse throughly)

no need plants in yr part 2 tank
they can breed too ?

*
If there is no other fish inside, you no need the plant inside tank.
Its more easy to maintain the water parameter.

You only need a good sponge filter, the biofilm will grow on it, that it.

whoa reali cheap
i got slaughtered already

if the tank is empty
how about ph ya ?
how to regulate keep it acidic ?
i read the role of soil is to keep it constant
even when wc

any secret to making them breed ?
the caradine seem less appetite than neo
the neos crowd around the food
while caradina keep munching the biofilm

Naturally, you can control PH via putting Indian Almond Leave (Plenty around M'sia), or Msia Driftwood.
Else good substrate is easier as its auto adjust you water parameter. ADA Amazonia / Fluval Stratum all not bad.

For shrimp, underfeed always better so your water parameter wont fluctuate due to food waste.
Food/Pop > Ammonia > No2(via bacteria) > No3 (via Bacteria) > Consume by plant
So without plant, the extra No3 will be inside your tank. Easiest ways to get rid is via floating plant, as this plant don't need pump Co2

So once your tank stable (~1month), your shrimp will start booming.
Again, take note other parameter like temperature, GH/KH etc (every tank is vary, you can ensure 100% follow those wrote in website, as long as shrimp breed then just leave it)
We always do same mistake during early stage, buy too much equip, but actually what its need is stable parameter for shrimp.

not cheap leh this hobi
i'm accumulating bottles of stull already
& the tests r more xpensif than seeing a dr
hmm..
but ya
if the water is not good they dont thrive
then no use going into this hobby
need to b more disciplined
taking care of them
its 27 - 28
sigh.. i love caridina shrimps
but to turn on the hall aircon daily
i think i m not willing to do that..
even my bedroom i only use fan
*
I only had neo, around same temp as your.
As breeding, but we only for hobby not sealing... as long as some bread and its continue slowly increase, I dont care its breed a lot or not.
Dont waste your time study lower temp in Msia (like chiller etc), this cost too much for hobby and waste a lot of space

hobby memang a $$$ burning stuff.
if you're expected to do the hobby, then chances are you should accept the fact that it will cost you a bomb.

for example, if you skimp on using fertilisers, your plants will not grow well and not turning the expected result.
you may lose interest.

if you skimp on lights, your plants may not have the saturation in colour and not turning the expected result.
you may lose interest.

if you skimp on using CO2, your plants will not grow well and not turning the expected result. But this could be fixed more easily but also won't be too optimum, that's by using a DIY co2.

if you skimp on bringing down the temperatures, the plants may not grow well, the shrimps may not cope well (given that he is more interested in caridina shrimps which require cooler water) and may not breed well, end up die more or faster than producing offspring, you will also lose money in buying more and more new shrimps.
you may ultimately lose interest as well.

Agree, initial I though just want to had a simple non Co2 tank + some shrimp....

But today, I bought
- Fluval Substrate
- 2L Co2 Tank + Inline Diffuser + Regulator + Timer
- Chihiros RGB 60Cm light
- Seachem Fert > NPK + Excel + Trace
and I lost count how many burn during initial setup like those wave sciccor, glass cleaer, bla bla tester, external fan, list go on.....
fail plant, fail snail, fail shrimp....
At least 2-3k now only can more or less stable....

But still gonna do weekly water change + bi-monthly filter cleaning as mine is Plant tank so need balance the fert....

Now looking change better glass tank.... bangwall.gif

better looking glass tank is definitely a big YES....... go ahead man~! i wanna upgrade my recently set up 30cm cube to a 60p tank soon, hopefully by mid this year la.

i know how it feels to spend all this money. but generally, for planted tank, every 1ft tank will cost you around RM1k. so if a 2ft tank, be prepared to spend like 2k on it.

let me count how much have i spent all these years since i started.

My first planted tank journey in 2012
Tank close to RM200
tank cabinet RM300
ADA amazonia RM110+
LED light RM300+
EHEIM 2215 around RM400
CO2 set easily RM400 or 500 bucks
hardscape another RM100
seachem products + ADA fertilisers = RM200
not to forget the livestocks, plants, fans, etc etc so many.
total spent also close to RM2k

Guppy journey in 2015
set up is not that expensive, bare tanks that cost me like 40 each and some plastic tanks for fry (15 bucks each). i have up to 48 tanks at one point.
some air pumps here and there easily cost me around 200 bucks.
the most expensive is the livestock, each pair of guppy cost me around 250 - 350 bucks, i even fly to bangkok and taiwan to pick them (forget about the flights and monies spent during the trip).
brine shrimp, one can cost around RM150 (last only about 4 months). i keep and breed guppies for 3 years, so you count.
all in all, easily spent RM5k here

Shrimping journey in 2018
system tank setup one time cost > RM5k (including a chiller)
Chiller is not an optimum choice, end up sold 800 bucks, get an AC and blast the AC for 14 hours a day.
shrimps, i spent easily another 2-3k in buying lifestocks, give up tracking ady.
but still keeping and breeding now.
Total spent easily RM8k (not to forget, about RM100 on house electricity too) for just one AC.

My renewed planted tank (30cm cube) and a small 30cm rectangular tank
tank RM115
filter - RM130 (1 HOB and 1 hangon back canister)
plants around RM150
seachem fertilisers (almost full range minus "Advance") - around RM300
hardscape - rocks and driftwood around RM80
some livestocks - around RM100
Total spent here also around RM600+

Also, going to buy a CO2 (4L) tank set which will easily cost around RM350
plus, Chihiros WRGB II which will also cost around 600++ for 2ft (since i would plan to upgrade my planted tank).

dare not count how much i have spent all these years. darnnnnn.........
could have been a lot richer if didnt spend on all these hobbies.

EDIT: Forgotten to add my own DIY RO water machine which also cost me around 600 or 700 bucks, a lot of time and money wasted for the trial and error.
damnnnnnn

you can try if via online is available. a lot of online seller nowadays too.
I bought mine from Fish depot.
not sure when will upgrade, my 30cm cube is a new tank, only 3 weeks old. hahahaha.....
wanna keep for a while before deciding to upgrade. cos if i upgrade, i will upgrade all my shrimp tanks too one shot, another few K expected lol......

own DIY RO water kit is dirt cheap i tell you. if you DIY yourself la.
the RO membrane and pump size depending on your requirement.

those 50G or 75G RO water kit is very cheap to DIY. 400G will cost a bit more.

but still way cheaper than you buy a ready made type, trust me.
*
Mind show the DIY RO way?
thanks in advance
