i called msi service careline. A friendly support personnel confirmed with me we can upgrade the hdd/ssd and memory ourselves. As long as we don't break anything during the process. Then they will honor the warranty.

But they still recommend us to get to nearest service center to do it for us.
From my point of view, I wanna add in a hdd myself, 5mins job. But travel to service center and probably get charged to do it? No way for me.

Nobody added a daughterboard to his GE40. That guy imported his GE40 lock stock and barrel from the US simply so that he could get the one with SSD + HDD.

The empty daughterboard ALONE costs RM500 from MSI. I can get a 240GB SSD with that kind of money easily, BUT that adapter is THE ONLY WAY you can RAID 2 mSATAs together. There is NO third party adapter that can achieve that, so RM500 might be worth it if you want RAID speeds from your mSATA.

As for slots, YES the daughterboard comes with TWO mSATA slots, or at least the one for the GE40 does.

hehehe, but that RM 500 really could get you an MSata by itself smile.gif

Same answer I got.

THEY REALLY HAVE TO PUT THIS IN WRITING SOMEWHERE SO THAT NO SC CAN SCREW US OVER IN THE FUTURE.

Ehem MSI-NB. Ehem.

Please notify your superiors that us gamers will LOVE your brand (and recommend it to everyone we know) if we are given OFFICIAL permission to upgrade the RAM/Storage on our own without voiding the warranty. In turn, we will honor our side of the bargain by making sure NOTHING ELSE is disturbed in the process.

Also, the RAM/Storage upgrades that we do is in no way the responsibility of MSI. If the RAM/Storage device that we add in breaks, we will be solely responsible for it's repair/replacement.

Consequently, if someone unskilled tries to upgrade their RAM and ends up poking a screwdriver clean through their graphics chip, than we can definitely accept it when MSI says that he/she voided his warranty.

We are asking this because we have been given conflicting information from multiple correspondences with MSI itself, which is NOT good.

Thank you.

After all, they only have to bear with our shenanigans for 2 years. In return, they get long term loyalty from grateful customers (us).

It's a very fair give and take in my book.

Word of mouth can be a very, very powerful advertising tool indeed, and it really costs almost nothing to implement.

PM Storm88. I think he said something along the lines of "it's crap unless you upgrade the RAM" or something.

LOL. Really, if you play graphics heavy games (FPS), it'll be fine. But CPU heavy games like Starcraft 2 (or something, IDK what example to give for CPU heavy games) might be a different story - the CPU is still a bottleneck in this case.

Long story short, if you want fast EVERYTHING, stick to Intel + Nvidia. If you only do shooter games, than the GX isn't half bad.

For the GPU, it can handle any games easily, except games that really requires multi-core:-

Battlefield 3(32-64 players)(most demanding CPU game)
GTA IV
Assassins Creed 3
Shogun 2
LA Noire
Batman Arkham City
Skyrim(Mod)

MSI officially do not recommend users to upgrade RAM/HDD/SSD by themselves

We recommend users:

-Upgrade RAM with our Authorized Dealers or Service Centre
-Upgrade HDD/SSD at Service Centre

FYI, Service Centre will diagnosis case by case whether users void the warranty or not.

As for Warranty for MSI MY notebooks, MSI offers 2 years warranty:

-First year Global Warranty
-Second year Local Warranty.

P/S: Don't worry all, MSI-NB is still around laugh.gif

That sounds fair enough. Though like I said, if MSI Malaysia is able to give official permission (with all the "proper" terms and conditions, of course) to do user upgrades, you'll REALLY be popular with us gamers.

But, as long as I have the knowledge that the SC doesn't simply refuse service due to a broken "void" seal (well, the authorised dealer will have to break that seal themselves when they add RAM, like my shop did, right?) and will treat each claim FAIRLY on a case by case basis, than it's all good with me.

Thanks MSI-NB.

Now we can all go attack Storm88 for RAM upgrades. He's an authorised dealer after all (IINM lar)... brows.gif

That one is actually "insurance" masquerading as "extended warranty". MSI has nothing to do with it from 2nd year forwards IINM.

It's totally third party folks. Like Mobisure (for phones) and the SenQ 5-year warranty thingy.
