( still can use short pants but use long socks too.. if not ur knee or shin will bleeding if on football field i use short pants becuz i need to run a bit.. + i use few layer of t-shirt for preventing my body hurt from diving in hard area... |

QUOTE(Syphon @ May 17 2009, 10:11 PM) I dun think U'd be comfortable wearing those in a football game. Hockey goalkeepers dun come out for crosses, they dun throw the ball to the halfway line, they dun take goalkicks, ... heck.. they can't even catch the ball !!! Cech's rugby helmet offers very, very minimal protection. It's like second to none his helmet. If U're scared, U shudn't even be playing in the position. I've been playing as a goal keeper years back and lately i'm more active in the paintball field.
what crosses my mind is, paintballer wear protective apparels for elbow, knee and thighs.... and they are pretty wonderful. i've always wanted to try those out in the football field. for those who thinks competitive paintball isn't as aggresive as goal keeping in football, you're wrong... average paintballers have to slide dive with a 2~3kg setup in one hand and another few kilos behind their back while running full speed. below is the video showing one of the best front players diving during a tournament check out 0:18 secs how he dives attached below are some pictures of what we wear in paintball... if anyone interested, let me know as i do know the suppliers. I have worn knee guards early in my playing days, I took it off at half time & I've never, ever wore them again. I've played paintball, although not competitively, & I know what it takes to play the game. But U wear those protections in paintball for a reason. I'm not a tradionalist, or a pessimist or against whatever la. It's just that, every sport present different risks & dangers. To compare paintball & soccer, or ice hockey to soccer, those are two different things. The protective gears are put in place for a reason. |

For me personally, I would wear some extra protective gear (knee pads and elbow pads) only when I play futsal.
How I do it, I wear them inside my goalkeeper jersey or pants. So they are not seen from outside.. To be honest, I would prefer not to have them because they limit my movement and most importantly, they are not comfortable...... There are reasons why some goalkeeper prefers short pants and short sleeve gk kits.. I would wear them during futsal because they protect my knees and elbows since the futsal pitch is hard (unlike the normal grass pitch). But to tell you the truth, they are not comfortable to be worn during match play.. |

QUOTE(schmeichel7 @ May 18 2009, 11:23 AM) Thanks for repairing my YouTube link:pIf you don't have time to train in gym, just buy aset of dumbell and train at home. Easy. And for me I never liked wearing any kind of protection whatsoever... It always limit my movement.. I can't even wear a kneepad.. And I really don't mind getting a few scratches here and there..thAt's a norm for a goalie.. And as a quite aggresive player, even without being stuck between the post I still have scratches here and there The only thing I hate about being a futsal goalie if..when playing on a carpet surface..there is always a lot of sand getting stuck on my shorts and shirts.. |

Different people will have different ideas on what they should wear to protect themselves but the bottom line i would like to emphasize and advise all futsal players, be it casual weekend player or competetive players, please wear your shinguards. Some people might have played futsal for the last 5-8 years and haven't took a whack on the shins, so they normally brush them off saying its heavy and uncomfortable.
For me, having played futsal for the last 6 years, i took 2 nasty whack on the shins that resulted in heavy bruising. From then on, i've always worn the shinguards and it has saved me numerous times from potential bruises or even cracked shins. So please, buy a cheap shinguards and wear them all the time. |

to avoid injury, it is best you go through proper training and practise as often as possible... proper technique will not harm your body in any way, except one thing, you can't avoid BULL player from hurting you...
just think back why Cech wears his headgear, why almunia suffer ankle injury, why van der sar was absent from the game, why ben foster's fingers were broke... it is all resulted from BULL players... eh giotto, best lah your animated signature... hahaha This post has been edited by Howard: May 18 2009, 02:37 PM |

I've played paintball, although not competitively, & I know what it takes to play the game. But U wear those protections in paintball for a reason. I've seen paintball players use soccer boots in matches. Well, I actually wear those on a full day basis during tournament days, which started from 9am to 6pm. each game lasted a lil longer than 15 minutes in a set, but i do play at least 6 sets during tournaments. Comfortable wise, it's a bit hot but i'm okay with it. It helps as it doesn't hurt knees or elbows when you fling yourself to the ground and it improves my performance since it wouldn't hurt to dive in more fiercefully onto the ground. yup, paintballers wear soccer boots in matches, some even go as far as wearing american football cleats since the pitch condition is pretty, much the same as a footbal pitch condition.I'm not a tradionalist, or a pessimist or against whatever la. It's just that, every sport present different risks & dangers. To compare paintball & soccer, or ice hockey to soccer, those are two different things. The protective gears are put in place for a reason. I agree bruises and wounds are normal for goalies. but each wound might cost you not to perform on your fullest, no ? I have yet to try them out during a football match, but going to try them out soon one of these days. was thinking about improvising since i've been diving a lot and it's always the same few places that gets cuts and bruises while playing GK and paintball, since the protective gears helps in paintball, why not try it out in soccer then? Cech does wear head protection made for rugby didn't he? |

Those are for paintball, not goalkeepers. We do VERY different things that really requires whole range of movement. Arm guard will seriously limit it and plus, have anyone really had their arms injured playing goalkeeper before?
I still hate wearing protective gear, even though I have 2 knee pads and shin guards in my kit bag Maybe I really do need to go to bro tenno's goalkeeper classes |
