Let's start a new thread just for keepers. I'll start.

Currently I'm playing for Comic Corner FC in the KL Division 1 league. I'm almost 30 already & this can be considered my final fling in football. I'll see if I can play until I'm 35. At my age now, it's pretty difficult to secure a place in any of the current state teams.

Started playing as keeper when I was 12. Played some other sports (cyclist for Selangor & national teams from 1993 until year 2000, played basketball after that until last year), before returning to my roots late last year. Played for my school, college, was selected into UKM team, played for my local neighbourhood teams, etc.

First ever gloves was bought in 1989, brand was Lion. It was a cotton gloves with ping-pong type palm. Then I bought a full leather gloves which gets very, very hard when dry. I've worn Henberg, Umbro, Reusch, Nike, Puma & Joma gloves throughout my career (if U could call it that). Currently own 3 pairs, Nike Tiempo Grip, Puma King SL & Joma Golden.

hard to find dedicated keepers around, wish you played in my area hahaha =D here keepers are less than a handful and those who are dedicated and good at it mayb only 1 or 2.. so it's great to see people who actually like/want to play as keepers. *pat on the back* =D

Being a keeper was just sorta natural to me. I'm not really tall, but when I started playing, I just felt comfortable playing in goal..

One thing for keepers when in a one-on-one situation with a forward, let the forward act first .... don't just masuk straight at him, wait till he makes a decision first.

Oh yea, wash your glove after every use. If not, your sweat will make the glove smell shakehead.gif

Erm kinda shy to admit it but haha..I've been a keeper for like a year only...And i'm already 19...I picked up football kinda slow, so I guess keeper position now really suit me rather than playing upfield. But I've playing most of the time as Futsal goalkeeper so the experience is definetly different than soccer goalkeepers.

Still I love my position and I learn not to fear the ball, kinda used to have the ball hitting my face already...

tenno : the Puma gloves for WC2006 looks really cool! Does Buffon use them?

It depends. If U'r in training, shooting practise is the time when everybody will do their best to beat U, the thing is they're your teammates, so it's different in games. During shooting practise, I have about 20 ppl in my team, normally everybody will get like 5-7 shots each, so that's 100 - 140 shots U have to face. My team have 2 keepers, so we switch places after every 10 shots or so. To me it's like,"OK, let's see what U can do, give me your best shot" & try my best to stop the shots.

During my training with Serendah team, I used my training gloves for 2 months without tearing them. I joined Comic Corner, I tore my gloves after 2 sessions....

Lol...Well girls of course see bkb players more macho I guess. IMO, GK more macho coz they have the balls to face the ball even though the consequences can be very painfull....Wahahaha... icon_idea.gif

yeah, GK don't get alot of credit. but people are slowly realising how important a keeper in the squad is. When i wanted to make a team for a 9 a side tourney i made sure the backbone of the squad is there namely a good forward, midfielder, centreback and a very reliable keeper. many people make a mistake by throwing some "newb" to play keeper because he can't play anywhere else or for any other reason. this was what happened to me in an amatuer tournament last year.. scrappy last min squad and put someone who has not played keeper between the post.. playing a keeper is NOT an easy thing to do and not everyone can do it. not many people has what it takes to make that dive etc.. needless to say , the 1st goal we conceded was a lousy chip which the keeper didn't expect to dip.. heck even an outfield player will know it's gonna dip into the net.. sigh.. neway it's good to hear people coming out wanting to play keepers as it isn't a very "popular" position in the squad.. but i do appreciate the unsung heroes in the squad so cheers to all the keepers out there and those who play their hearts out for their team be it in any position !!

ps: great idea startin a tread dedicated to keepers.. good goin lads! XD

Been playing goalkeeper ever since i was form 1, that's about 10 years already...still playing as goalie, sometimes play defender. Inspired to play the position ever since The Great Dane started playing for Man Utd (IMHO best goalie ever notworthy.gif ), never got bored of it even till now. No major tournament experience, just represented school team as 2nd choice goalie, cause got one Indian kid damn tall and good, around 6 feet 3" and fast reflex, exactly like Van Der Sar, that's why couldn't secure 1st spot laugh.gif , and joined some outsider team for a while, which we challenged teams from other areas every now and then. Nowadays no more kaki to play padang football, and all also no more stamina to run, so stuck with playing futsal only tongue.gif

Used to have the same Reusch gloves that Schmeichel wore, then some idiot stole it while i went to get a drink during a match vmad.gif cry.gif . Now just own a normal pair of Adidas gloves.
