I recently saw a pair that have it's fingertips cut off, I think it's a futsal goalkeeper gloves.
What is the difference? Let me see if I can get some pictures ![]() This post has been edited by fuzzy: Jul 9 2007, 06:26 PM |

Yes, it is futsal gloves, I just wanna know what is the difference because it seems abit dangerous having the tips open, seeing I've injured my fingertips a few times saving a shot.

No go, some of my friends have broken fingers or painful palms from not using gloves.
And if you have played with gloves all these while, you'll find having no gloves actually impair your performance, not enhance it. |

The grip of a bare hand is always definitely better compared to a glove in what I've come to discover, but nothing compares to the shock absorption that gloves can give.
I found out that those Fingerless gloves are mainly used for those playing using a soft surface ball, where the power and sting of the ball definitely will decrease, thus not only you can afford to use such gloves, but also fingerless will help increase the grip on such surfaces. But I guess it won't help me since we're mostly still using leather type ones, I've not encountered more than few games where soft surface has been used as sadly, Malaysians still rank power ahead of skill, even in futsal. And I have to agree that if you have a good foundation, playing bare hand shouldn't cost much problem, but once you have made one too many fingertips save... gloves seem to be a lovely accessory to have |

QUOTE(KrazyChinaman @ Jul 11 2007, 12:59 AM) when u guys face 1 on 1 situation, will ya go for the dangerous attempt to have the ball in ur arms? My advice, if you are confident, jump forward. Rush out fast, stand strong, eyes on ball and make yourself look big, you'll find that 80% of the time with amateur players, they'll gelabah and hit a weak shot. If you are scared about getting hit, jump forward and hands directed at the ball, but that if only when you are pretty sure that you can get the ball or that there is no harm in missing that catch. I've gotten hit a few times and while it hurts, I kinda have come to expected it.do u always "kena" hit on the face from unexpected shots? a good goalie must have good defense, otherwise, goalie would be quite useless, agree? i always been very frustrated on this kind of situation... A good goalie needs a good defence, but a good defence needs a good goalie as well. You need to take charge, shout at defenders who seems lost or lazy, make them come back to defend or tell them where to cover when the opposition are charging. For instance, when there is a 2 on 1 situation, the defender will most probably immediately rush to cover the first player, ignoring the other one which causes problem when they simply pass the ball and now, you don't even have a defender facing a one on one. In this situation, you need to tell the defender to calm down, try to stay between both players and move back to anticipate their next move. That way, you can at least have time to adjust and cover the most of your goal and you can see some times that opposition will be forced to shoot hoping for the best, or pass it more making them lose the advantage. If during the few seconds of precious time you have by not having the defender out AND no one still have came back to help, you probably need to go berserk over them. QUOTE(glozz @ Jul 11 2007, 05:12 PM) Added on July 11, 2007, 5:17 pm When making fingertip saves; try tipping the ball from underneath the ball itself rather than fingertipping the middle of the ball; in order to reduce impact on the fingers. Obviously; you'll need to be more careful that you don't tip it into your net lar. QUOTE(glozz @ Jul 11 2007, 05:30 PM) I'm thinking stupidity; at least for me. I've been stepped on my d*** before. Lucky it still works. I'm just wondering whether the number of times I've been hit in the balls hurt my sperm fertility. Well; i look at it this way; a straight at you ball equals an easy save lorr; just have to make sure your reflex is fast enough to absorb the angle to at least make the pain bearable. Unlucky. I've been hit everywhere but my crouch, at least not seriously that I can't stand. QUOTE(Confession @ Jul 11 2007, 11:38 PM) Easiest will be to take the ball on your hand, take a few steps forward, drop it and kick it with you life. For futsal, it's better to throw it anyway so I'm pretty poor with my kicks. QUOTE(glozz @ Jul 12 2007, 03:04 PM) From time to time; I still practise my positioning and reflexes by a series of exercises I learnt along the way. One of them involves standing in goal with someone on the ball about to take a shot from the halfway line (futsal court); your back facing the person. When he hits the ball; immediately jump around and make the save. I say jump because there's no way you can make the save on time by turning. If this is too difficult, with your back facing the shot taker; bend over and look between your legs and only jump around when he hits the ball. If you're playing futsal I think you need to train much on one-on-one situations because I think there is a high chance of it due to the nature of our amateur playing style. The defence will run up and fail to come back in time, leaving you stranded. So learn how and when to rush out, to look big, learn to control the situation and not the other around and force the player into a side angle or shooting unprepared. |

I'm not sure if this is a bargain, but I was in Penang yesterday and during a shopping trip, I managed to pick up a new pairs of Uhlsports for RM50 and Kappa's goalkeeper shorts with padding at the side for RM45.
The Uhlsport's surface looks to be more tougher, so I hope it'll last longer then those Nike/ Umbro using soft latex ones. |

QUOTE(FauxHawk @ Aug 28 2007, 08:47 PM) Aye, I've looked all over but never seem to find any, I think its probably due to the small market here as they only manufacture gloves (from what I think) while the other brands like Nike or Umbro supplies other stuff like boots thus making the shops more willing to depend on well known brand. But I heard about how great it was from few of you guys here, and couldn't resist it.The price stated on the panel was RM109.90 with discount, so I was more than willing to pay for it but when he told me it was RM50, i almost died QUOTE(stevanistelrooy @ Aug 28 2007, 09:34 PM) A good tips for goalie:- Some good advices there, I cannot stress enough communication with the back four, telling them to get back into position and reminding them about mistakes they are making. Also remember to compliment them often on good plays like good defending or clearance, it does boost their self belief and often do play better.Always be aware on the player that you are not concentrating when you are looking at the ball. They are the one who can make the difference. Think ahead of the opponent. Look for any chances that he can do, and try to cover it. Always pressure your opponent, in such as rushing out, punching the ball or etc but stay calm and concentrated. Keep interaction with your back 4. Last but not least, practise make perfect. As for me, I'm one of the rare keeper who preferred to play with bare foot and without any glove. In field or in futsal, it doesn't makes matter for me as long I know that I can perform and do my job. I used to do that too, but far too much injuries to my fingers and toes make me think again about doing. Probably bad techniques, but I feel more comfortable with protection on. I got it from Penang, one of the corner shops near Jalan Burma and co., since I don't really know about the streets and got there more or less by mistake. QUOTE(glozz @ Sep 6 2007, 11:27 AM) Ermm; you can easily get the goalie shorts at al-ikhsan sunway or just go to Pertama complex. They're easily available. Pertama has quite a wide variety of gloves to choose from. Not sure whether the price will be the same; but they've got quite alot there. Yup, I remember some user said they do have Uhlsport, so I assume there are places who carry it, although not in large quantities.Glove wear and tear also depends on how you use it. Landing and getting up using your hands will tear any brand of glove; just a matter of time. And gloves will tear sooner or later, I'm just hoping this latex is more harder than the Nike ones since it tear the first one or two days of use, most probably due to my poor techniques and also my preference to use hands to handle anything, even those where other keepers will use their foot for. |

I need a new pair of futsal shoes, do you think I should go for those branded ones like Nike / Adidas or those cheapo ones like Admiral?
I always though of shoes as just a protective gear and never essential to my game, so I would like some opinion |

I do that, it does increase the grip. But I only do it before the game though, I'm not sure if we have to constantly maintain the moisture, though with the new Uhlsports, I've discovered that it can't handle some of the ball even with moisture so I've had to spit on it a few times, it did improved but at the end I resorted to using my old pair after one too many slips.
I think this is the first time I notice the 'personality' changes among gloves, so it taught me a lesson to choose the right pair next time if I need a new one and also do not throw away old ones until they are truly useless I saw in Al-Ihksan's webpage that the F10 are going for RM119, so I'd be scouting for that or another model at RM99. Heck, if luck have it, I might even end up with an old Total90 model, but I understand I'd be wise adviced to go to Pertama Complex to scout for such deals |

Aye, I don't think it has helped much, but then again I never had problems with my hips, so the effect might have not been felt in my case.
The grip on my pair of Uhls are seriously weak, probably due to the surface. IF this goes on, I might have to buy a different pair, sigh Added on September 16, 2007, 1:32 amI found Uhlsports on sale for less than RM100 in PKNS Complex in Shah Alam. Those interested can head over there to check it out. This post has been edited by fuzzy: Sep 16 2007, 01:32 AM |

There's only a few shops selling football items, and it can be a treasure trove for those who love 'antique' stuff, like jersey collectors.
The one I saw was at the first level, there was one on the ground floor but it caters more to EPL fans as they carry some EPL jerseys (probably one of the rare places I saw West Ham jersey, sad it cost 300 bucks else I would have jump on it). Head to first floor, look around. I can't remember the name, but inside it carries tons of old Selangor jerseys along with other sport items. And since you'll be hitting the gloves section, I'm sure you won't miss those Uhlsport logos |

Indeed, I suck as a keeper I think, no formal training and those I know is by watching video or instinct. Plus I'm not fully fit these days since I stopped gym, so if you ask me to rate myself, I'll say I'm a 5/10 .. I'll do better than most players because I'm brave enough to stand between the post See la, if possible I drag some other fellow lowyat people to play with the LYN team |

Guys, what is the difference between turf and flat surface shoes?
I need a new pair of shoes as my old ones crocodile already, and I'm looking at a pair of turfs. Added on May 19, 2008, 7:24 pm QUOTE(glozz @ Jan 1 2008, 01:10 AM) Well; if you're reallyyyy serious about wanting to play, how 'bout friday nights? But the better question is; would you be willing to travel to klang to play and are you willing to play with some really tough guys? Tough as in very challenging for keepers. My Friday private fun session wouldn't mind good players (especially willing keepers) as they're running 'lil short nowadays. You guys play in Klang? i might just join in since I live here Can go and get goalkeeping tips from you This post has been edited by fuzzy: May 19 2008, 07:24 PM |

QUOTE(glozz @ May 19 2008, 07:48 PM) Turf shoes are meant for turf and cement. Playing them on carpet, terraflex or any other surface would mean too much grip and cause injuries when you're turning. Brown flat surface shoes are meant for carpet, terraflex and the opposite of turf. Playing them on turf, cement and the wrong type of surface would mean too 'lil grip and slippery. Most just buy brown since they're more versatile. Which part of Klang do you play in? The Roof? I'm not sure how I would rate my game tempo, I'm playing every Tuesday with a bunch of young and uncles, I'm playing every Thursday with a younger audience that is certainly higher tempo. If you are interested you can come along for my sessions as well, though I must admit I doubt they are really good players. How would you rate your playing level and which day do you want to play? I play fridays and sundays in Klang. If you're interested and don't mind playing high tempo levels and games, PM me for the details. I doubt I'm that good to have tips for you though. |

QUOTE(glozz @ May 20 2008, 02:12 PM) We play @ the roof on Sundays, Port Klang Futsal Center on Fridays. Hmm; tuesday sounds interesting, where do you play and what time? I'm looking for a session to join on tuesdays actually. Lemme know if you're interested. I am, I just need to sort out my transportation and stuff. I might be bringing another friend along if you do not mind, he's outfield but he's lacking in the basic foundations of it, kinda like me, but as I'm a goalkeeper, I get to escape with it more. I play every Tuesday in Subang's SP, the one near Summit. They would love a goalkeeper as other than me, the opposition one is usually rotated between outfield players. The only drawback I see here is that they only play for an hour, which I don't think is long enough |
