hmm.. how can i missed this thread? been a keeper since 14, stopped at 21 and chose paintball. Reason ? Frustrated cuz no team to play with.

well, nothing really impressive under the belt, played for school team since secondary, then selected for college team ( never go for training after being selected in teh selection due to reason that the training ground was too far and i dun have transport )

achievements? 2 nose bleed, 4 stitches on my lower lips, plenty of cuts and wounds on elbow, knees and legs, Knock out in the field once ( got kick right at the temple ) and what else ? plenty of finger and wrist sprain?

glove used, uncountable. 8 years of playing as a GK does burn a lot of glove rubber. But i mainly go for PUMA gloves as they are more approachable/value for money for a student ( usually use those above RM100 gloves from PUMA )

Lot of time ah ? No la, I just feel I need to take really good care of my gloves since I can't afford too many. I usually finish training at 10pm, then get home by 11pm. I clean my gloves, boots & jersey before having my dinner la, otherwise I won't clean them at all.

that's wad i call a real GK, washes his glove right after each game! heheh

exkay: Reusch was my favorite glove, but now nobody carry them anymore in KL. Uhlsport, never could afford them even now, but U can find them in Pertama, but only the common models la, not the latest ones. Price ? Uhlsport's cheapest is around RM130.00 & that's a very low end model. The Absolutgrips goes for around RM240.00
*
yeah,, tried my fren's reusch once and fell in love with it but never seem to be able to find it here. sigh..

as for uhlsport, no comment yet as i've no chance of putting them on for now.

lol just had a friendly agaisnt the 4sc2 class.. im in 4 science 1. lol i tot the nerdier u get the lousier u play football , but we thrashed them 7-4... cant call a thrash lar.. but still the score is good enuff to make keepers weep  cry.gif  cry.gif
i lepas 4 ballz... they keep blaming me for not coming out on 1 on 1.. i tot u need to wait the striker dribble a little bit too far only come out? like, wait for him to make a slight mistake and pounce on the ball. oh well, i saved a few,.. but i so scared to spill the ball i just palm them away, one time i palmed into striker and kena score ROFL/the funny thing is the opponent keeper made an oliver khan nutmeg. u know, he duck to catch the ball then the ball slowly rolled pass both his hands, then pass his kangkanged legs .. LOL. the field was in tears coz laughing too much.

my puma gloves served me well, not even any signs of peeling, but i still need a guide on how to tape fingers. coz i miscatched(i was off guard, so my fingers werent in ready position), then my thumb area now swelling  sweat.gif  still can type, but cannot hold a mug sweat.gif
*
coming out one on one a lil bit early might be good might be bad, depending on your decision / situation. but by coming out, the striker have smaller angle of scoring and u're putting pressure on him, that's when u then see the chance of him making mistake or dribbling the ball too far away and prance on the ball.

however, do learn how to protect yourself as i ended up with bleeding nose several times, and got knocked out once ( striker strike on my temple instead of the ball ).

when ducking to catch a rolling ball, always bent one of your knees towards the middle to seal your kangkang area just incase u slipped.

as for taping fingers, how did u get that sprain ? Personally, i'm more towards punching it out than palming it away. if it's supposed to be palmed, it will be palmed out of play, but heck, that's my way of playing GK.
( when catching high ball, always let your two thumbs touching each other. )

Do more finger exercise to strengthen your fingers.

by the way, which school are u from ?

arsenwagon.. smile.gif

a keeper has to be brave in taking knocks... so dont afraid la to rush out in 1-1 situation... the chances opponents to score will reduce greatly... but if he's a good striker he just might chip you and you can only see the ball went over your head biggrin.gif

i'm a short keeper.. so not very good to play in real football, so i play futsal a lot, and my team mates say i'm a good keeper!! smile.gif but that's for others to decide.. i just play for fun!! smile.gif

how short are u ? i'm only 173cm (approx )

yealol.. i scared he shoot 60 mph ball into my face or worse some other body parts resembling an elephant\s trunk.  whistling.gif  i tak pernah ball masuk kangkang, coz i do what u said, my knee will always be the rebounder.. hehe. its automatic, i not consciously put the knee there.
that sprain is coz of .. picture this. ur thumb pointing towards the ball. u ask people shoot at ur thumb . get the idea ?  sweat.gif  sweat.gif that measn ur thumb compressed by the ball lor  cry.gif  cry.gif  now i notice got a blue black patch already. lucky its my left hand, if my right hand can say bye bye to homework.. that day my newbie friend become keeper for 1st day terus his fingers all sprained and masuk hospital. lol.
lucky i nvr get anything bad when 1 on 1 with opponent.. coz i always form a "cobra" style with my arms protecting my face. u can find this at jb goalkeeping i think. but once an idiot go kick my head after i slide into his leg.. maybe he malu already. haha
*
go get someone to have a look at your thumb. a keeper with a sprained finger will give trouble in future if it's not taken care of now.

wah, u use cobra style ar... side ball u ma jialat ?

1 on 1, usually i just rush out straight and slide in only... with arms spread as wide as possible and the legs like scissors when i slide in....

99% of the time they will try to dribble pass, so dun worry about them shooting at your didi...
*
1% decided to revenge you on blocking their earlier shots, and u'll be taken out of field by the Medics with broken eggs.

i miss the days of Schmeichel and Kahn... oh.. those were the days... Barthez? Bleh! never like him.

as for this world cup, Buffon gets my vote, tho i would love to give it to kahn but since he doesn't have much chance to play... if not it would be 1st kahn then 2nd Buffon.

I've been playing as a goal keeper years back and lately i'm more active in the paintball field.

what crosses my mind is, paintballer wear protective apparels for elbow, knee and thighs.... and they are pretty wonderful.

i've always wanted to try those out in the football field.

for those who thinks competitive paintball isn't as aggresive as goal keeping in football, you're wrong...
average paintballers have to slide dive with a 2~3kg setup in one hand and another few kilos behind their back while running full speed.

below is the video showing one of the best front players diving during a tournament
check out 0:18 secs how he dives

attached below are some pictures of what we wear in paintball...

if anyone interested, let me know as i do know the suppliers.

Pls, wear all those gear, & comeback & tell us whether U felt comfortable playing in them. Does paintball games last 90 mins ? I have worn knee guards early in my playing days, I took it off at half time & I've never, ever wore them again. I've played paintball, although not competitively, & I know what it takes to play the game. But U wear those protections in paintball for a reason. I've seen paintball players use soccer boots in matches.

I'm not a tradionalist, or a pessimist or against whatever la. It's just that, every sport present different risks & dangers. To compare paintball & soccer, or ice hockey to soccer, those are two different things. The protective gears are put in place for a reason.
*
Well, I actually wear those on a full day basis during tournament days, which started from 9am to 6pm. each game lasted a lil longer than 15 minutes in a set, but i do play at least 6 sets during tournaments. Comfortable wise, it's a bit hot but i'm okay with it. It helps as it doesn't hurt knees or elbows when you fling yourself to the ground and it improves my performance since it wouldn't hurt to dive in more fiercefully onto the ground. yup, paintballers wear soccer boots in matches, some even go as far as wearing american football cleats since the pitch condition is pretty, much the same as a footbal pitch condition.

I agree bruises and wounds are normal for goalies. but each wound might cost you not to perform on your fullest, no ?

I have yet to try them out during a football match, but going to try them out soon one of these days.

was thinking about improvising since i've been diving a lot and it's always the same few places that gets cuts and bruises while playing GK and paintball, since the protective gears helps in paintball, why not try it out in soccer then? Cech does wear head protection made for rugby didn't he?
