QUOTE(Matrix @ Jul 26 2007, 06:32 AM) Anyway, i don't like the AMT...fake auto car...later got problems 3 years down the road...cry!! wah how can you say it's fake auto la. it was never claimed to be an auto la. IINM it's still considered MANUAL transmission. it's just that it's clutchless manual. it has never claimed to be an AT so i don't think it's fair to call it fake auto. http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=336488 A semi-automatic transmission (also known as clutchless manual transmission, dual-clutch transmission, automated manual transmission, e-gear, or paddle shift gearbox) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-automatic_transmission |

Forget the technology blah..blah. It's irrelevant. Why does people want to drive auto? Because it's easy and no clutch, good for especially lady drivers.http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=336488 A semi-automatic transmission (also known as clutchless manual transmission, dual-clutch transmission, automated manual transmission, e-gear, or paddle shift gearbox) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-automatic_transmission What's the purpose of having AMT? So simulate the same benefits of an auto transmission without the clutch and make it easy for the ladies....wtihout a real auto-transmission. U go to any proton showroom and see how the salesperson tries to market this thing to you. Will they tell u it's semi-automaic blah blah, please refer to wikipedia yadda yadda or will they tell you "this car can drive auto and manual!!"?? They'll also conveniently forget to tell u it'll jerks if u try to drive it like an auto and u have to treat it like a manual... Which defeats the whole purpose anyway. Seriously, i see AMT as pointless, unless cost wise it can be cheaper than auto significantly or maintenance wise is cheaper than reconditioning an auto box (RM2K easily for a car like Wira...more expensive for imported cars...KIA Sephia cost RM4K to recond the damn autogear box), there's really no purpose. People who craves to drive will prefer manual...i mean what sissy will wanna drive a car with no clutch?? (just ask hypermount. This post has been edited by Matrix: Jul 26 2007, 02:58 PM |

my point - it's not a "fake auto" or wannabe or anything. it's still an automated manual.
you have to treat it like a manual because it's still based on manual. it's just that it has the convenience of switching gear on it's own. it doesn't defeat any purpose, it's AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION - so do till does it's purpose for being automated. another thing about the AMT on Savvy is that while it functions similar to an AT, it's fuel-efficient is that of an MT. and to say going clutchless meant for ladies isn't fair to them (ladies) either. a lot of ladies don't mind using MT (with clutch la) and to drive an auto is for convenience, manual can be damn tiring sometimes. it's not a gender thing, it's a preference thing. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Jul 26 2007, 03:08 PM) my point - it's not a "fake auto" or wannabe or anything. it's still an automated manual. Let's just say MOST ladies would prefer an auto. That's a very real fact. Heck, most people stuck in a jam would prefer an auto.you have to treat it like a manual because it's still based on manual. it's just that it has the convenience of switching gear on it's own. it doesn't defeat any purpose, it's AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION - so do till does it's purpose for being automated. another thing about the AMT on Savvy is that while it functions similar to an AT, it's fuel-efficient is that of an MT. and to say going clutchless meant for ladies isn't fair to them (ladies) either. a lot of ladies don't mind using MT (with clutch la) and to drive an auto is for convenience, manual can be damn tiring sometimes. it's not a gender thing, it's a preference thing. Yes, it's fuel efficient like an MT...which i think is the only good selling point. But it's simply not worth it to take the risk with oddball tech which not many people knows how to fix or god knows when the parts will become extinct or available next. The Engine and AMT is still sourced from France according to P1 salesman. I keep to my stance it DEFEATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE of having an easy drive like an auto but you have to drive it like a manual to avoid the jerks. If you're willing to pay a bomb when it broke, by all means, go ahead. For me, i'll avoid potential stink bomb whenever possible. Just give me a manual car or give me a real auto. Btw, how come they don't fix a real auto in Savvy?? |

AMT spareparts will become much easier to find because there are alot of AMT Savvys on the road. Plus, the AMT is the same from the old Renault Clio, which I believe can be found in Malaysia (although rare). Spare parts shouldn't be a problem, with Proton already offering alot of discounts on 'em.
Real purpose of having AMT? To have the efficiency of a manual (ie power and FC-wise) AND the convenience of an auto. Alot of manufacturers are turning to semi-auto gearboxes lately. Much cheaper to produce than auto gearboxes. Fake auto? no can do because it never said that it's auto in the first place. C'mon, first you bash the LHS, now AMT? Why not bash BMW, Merc, and VW while you're at it? Why can't they fit an auto into it? We don't know -- ask them. Probably because they want to make the Savvy their premier 'fun car', while at the same time being convenient and cheap. Don't see anybody else whinging about the AMT here. Amt is allrite if you get the hang of it......1st few moments on it is purely enimaginable but in just a few days yuo'll pretty much get the hang of it......manual with the quallity of an auto BUT not as bad as an auto's frugality......

if i am not mistaken...the renault engine cannot fit AT transmission....onli MT or AMT....if u say AMT is pointless....then what about DSG transmission that is fitted on the Golf GTI....it is also a semi-auto....so its pointless too?...if i am not mistaken semi-auto have less "powerloss" compare to a fully AT transmission and consume less fuel too compare to AT

alah what for, buy Golf GTi in 10 years time cukup
btw Matrix, the DSG gearbox is faster than a manual. why is this achievable? the lack of a torque converter, and a twin-clutch system. still say that a semi-auto is pointless now? the semi-auto can still be developed further, while the auto gearbox cannot be expanded already, except for the number of gears perhaps. however it still cannot hide the fact that it is less efficient than a MT and semi-auto.
