ICIC, thanks for the info

In your earlier post comparing MSI GE60 2OC i7 and ASUS N550JV-CN077H, you mentioned about the MSI is running on a real, quad-core i7 whereas the ASUS has a relatively "power-saving" i7

But aren't both them have the "MQ" suffix (i7-4700MQ & i7-4702MQ respectively)?
*
huh? hmm.gif
There got to be some misunderstanding here laugh.gif
Just to make this clear.
An i7 that has a U suffix is only duo core.
An i7 that has MQ (or QM) suffix is quad core.
i7-4700MQ and i7-4702MQ both are quad core.
i7-4700MQ run slightly faster (2.4GHz turbo to 3.4GHz) compared to i704702MQ (2.2GHz turbo to 3.2GHz), but draw more power (47W TDP vs 37W TDP). Pro - better peak performance (if temp is under control and no throttling). Con - shorter battery running time.

QUOTE(Gabranth @ Aug 25 2013, 08:39 PM)
hi guys. i need help on choosing between lenovo models:

G405s, A8-5550M + AMD HD8570M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB, W8
G400s, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1799, 4GB, 500GB, W8

Usage: for photo & video editing. simple autocad drawing and multitasking and light online gaming.

i went to lowyat plaza the salesman suggest me to get the A8-5550M bcoz it got 4 cores (good for multitasking i guess) compare to i5-3230 (which only has 2 cores) isnt true?

BTW about the gpu. i check on the internet, the AMD HD8570M gpu is a bad gpu compared to Nvidia GT720M. Plus, isnt true AMD processors easily get overheating problems?

any comments from sifus I would appreciate it very much  notworthy.gif

There are so many wrong with this sweat.gif

That LYP salesman either is a delusional AMD CPU fan, or an ignorant moron sweat.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Yes, the A8-5550M has 4 cores, i5-3230M only has 2 cores. But the performance of each A8 cores is low compare to each Intel i-core. And even if an application is written to able to take advantage of all 4 cores, the A8 will be just hanging with an i3 M Ivy Bridge.

And no, more cores does not make better multi-tasking. If an apps is not written for multiple cores, even if you run on a multi-cores CPU, it will only utilise 1 core. And if you use an i7 quad core but pair it with 2G RAM, try multi-tasking and you will cry laugh.gif

On the other hand, the AMD HD8570M is NOT a bad GPU compared to Nvidia GT720M. They are on par.
And no, AMD GCN GPU does not "easily get overheating problem".

Anyway, if those are you only choices, take the G400s. And slap in more RAM for your multi-tasking icon_rolleyes.gif

Whether the laptop is durable or not is depended on your TLC, and lots of luck biggrin.gif
Lots of multi-task, get more RAM. 4G stick ~ RM100, 8G stick ~ RM200.
Smooth - get SSD. 128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600.
Unless you do heavy lifting in Photoshop, you don't need powerful spec.

Both are suitable for your usage, just pick the one/color you like more, and upgrade to 8GB RAm if you want nod.gif

As for the Core i processors, there are basically 3 i.e. i3, i5, and i7.
For normal usage, i3 and i5 are more than enough, so no worries there  icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh thank you so much, have a look at SVF14218SGW ald, I think it will be the right one but then do I need to add in graphic card because I dont see GT740M is the graphic card listed in sims 3 system requirement list?

You don't get to "add in" graphic cards in notebooks laugh.gif
The reason why you don't see the Nvidia GT740M is because its newer than the game.
Rest assured, it can handle the game easily at max graphic settings icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah seems to be good buy (plus coz i am a sucker for that color backlit). im comparing that with Lenovo Y510p and planning to get either 1 of them. but fi realized something.

1.) The GT60 build mentioned is using 3rd gen i5 as compared to lenovo y510P 4th gen i7.
2.) Dat ultrabay thingy, is a good idea? (from my understanding, it seems like a removable graphic card slot)
3.) why is there so few info on MSI GT60-0ND-608MY? hmm.gif
so its MSI GT60-0ND-608MY VS Lenovo Y510P now.

need a few more push to decide which one of this im gonna get notworthy.gif TQVM for all da advice
