Inspiron 14R, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400 + (1366x768;touch)@RM1988 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 6 cell

Inspiron 15R, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1599 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 6 cell

How do you get to the prices you mentioned?
I added 3 year Dell Pro warranty with another 3 year Accidental Damage.

If you only want 14", 14R also has a no-touch screen option (but only 4 cell battery): (if the customisation option is not there for 6 cell, chat with Dell Sale and see if they can help to upgrade it to 6 cell)
Inspiron 14R, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400 + @RM1549 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 4 cell

If you don't need touchscreen, go for the cheaper option of course smile.gif
if both 15R and 14R has the same capacity battery, 14R will have slightly better battery running time (smaller screen)
W8 is perfectly usable without touchscreen. If you want to try touchscreen, make sure you are perfectly comfortable with the strength of the hinge. Wobbly screen is very annoying.
Is the difference in battery life substantial? According to this they managed to get abt 7 hours in browsing (not in full performance of course), and the laptop has a dedicated GPU and an i5. And I think I might need the numpad as i have some accounting subjects in my course

OS media kit - If you intend to re-install OS later, you absolutely need it. It is free from Dell, take it. For 15R, you can actually ask for it, they will give it to you for free as well.
Oh that's a good thing to know smile.gif

Dell Concept Store in LYP? masih ada ke?  hmm.gif
I just googled the store... don't know if it still there or not. Haven't been to lowyat for a while already  tongue.gif

Just wipe out your credit card, no worries laugh.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif Dell Online is safe.
Customise, negotiate (online chat, must do otherwise you miss out discount / goodies), pay by credit card. Dell will update you on expected delivery time (you can track it yourself online), and deliver to your doorstep.
Unfortunately, I don't have a credit card  sad.gif

Pro support - apparently only RM30 difference from basic support hmm.gif You probably won't need the software support. 24x7 phone support is useful if you can't wait. The good thing is Pro support assure you the technician will be there NBD, whereas Basic is 1-2 BD (but typically next day).

Accidental damage - it's quite cheap for RM150(?) extra. If user are hamfist type of person, worth it.

But you do realise you just add 25% (14R) or 30% (15R) to the cost of the laptop tongue.gif

Generally, strongly encourage buyers to get as long period warranty cover as they can afford. Whether accidental coverage is needed, has to weight cost/benefit hmm.gif

The difference in battery running time is not substantial (screen do drain a lot of power, but difference in screen surface area between 14" and 15" is not that big). In browsing, the GPU does not kick in at all (which leads to the pretty good battery running time). Do note some other assumption on those test on battery running time (i.e. power profile, screen brightness, etc).
Accounting course - yup, definitely need numpad biggrin.gif

Dell do accept direct banking. They will give you the banking account details, you bank in, then scan the bank-in slip to them for confirmation.

I'm sure it's the local set. I found it at the dell malaysia site. It's their new haswell refresh.

This is the e-value code :  W510706MY14MW8
But I'm worry dual-core might not serve me that well for years to come.

Maybe Y410/510p might be a better investment.
*
Yes, found it tongue.gif Thanks thumbup.gif

Yup, Y410p definitely has more powerful CPU. (also leads to a "hot" laptop tongue.gif )
But may I know what is your usage for the laptop?

To be honest, I'm getting the laptop for

-college assignment (computer engineering)
-games ( dota2 and football manager 2013)
-browsing + entertainment

I know quad core is overkill for me but I'm planning to use the laptop for 4-5 years.
I'm having this dilemma of just a few hundred more im getting a better spec.
2.5k I get dual core, add a bit 3k i get quad core + fhd, 3.5k i get re-15 ... zzzz

arghh....

Quad core probably, as you said, is overkill smile.gif
That Haswell i7 ULT is not that bad (also help on battery running time and heat profile ... )
But I know FHD is hard to resist.
If you go with FHD, I will rather go with Y510p and use the money to get SATA SSD if budget is tight (rather than go with RE-15, which has better build ... )
The difference between Y410p and Y510p is a no brainer, definitely Y510p (rm200 for FHD screen). (Just need to wait 2 more weeks for Y510p local set).

Well, I got RM 88 discount from her for the 3 years warranty. So she said she can't help me for the bag anymore. The bag only cost me RM 33. So I get RM55 discount. Good or not?

All brands can provide international warranty. It's just a matter of whether it come standard, or you have to pay more to upgrade standard warranty to international warranty.
After sales service in UK (for most brands) are generally ok, but they don't send technician on site that easily (prepare for remote diagnostic drill  tongue.gif )

The engineering software your friend is running could make use of i7 quad core (please note i7 ULV is only duo core) and good GPU.

Your friend really has to think about this. i7 & good GPU, in a small form factor, unless the laptop has good cooling component / design, it's going to be rather uncomfortable (to say the least).

SSD - 256G ~ RM600. Normally users could do the upgrade themselves without voiding the hardware warranty, as long as they don't destroy those "warranty void if removed" stickers.

Closest:

MSI
GE40-2OC, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GTX760M + (1600x900; anti-glare)@RM3999[1.8kg], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8
(need to upgrade warranty to International warranty)

www.illegear.com
Illegear RE-13 Pro, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; IPS)@RM4199[2kg][Onkyo], 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-4700MQ - i7-4900MQ]
(but they don't provide international warranty).

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

Alternative:
Get 2nd hand MBP Retina laugh.gif
MacBookPro 15" (Retina Display), i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + 256GB SSD + (2880x1800)@RM6799[2.02kg], 8GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX
Run bootcamp to run Win OS that support the engineering software.

owh...thanx a lot for ur feedback and suggesion bro...appreciate dat.. smile.gif
yeah, i already explained to him about de engineering software need i7 not ULV..but is it necessary to hav good gpu? coz he only play dota 2 and pes..intel hd4000 can handle dota 2 smoothly rght?
he said wanna buy xps pro 13, is it suitable for all his needs?

de illegear laptop seems a good choice but no warranty provided in uk.. sweat.gif

about de MBP, is it really easy to run de engineering software through bootcamp? can install pirate software? hmm.gif

HD 7670m slightly better then GT 720M, however both are middle class graphics card for laptops, able to handle most of the games and mid --low setting only

The good GPU is for the 3D modelling stuff in the engineering software he is going to use smile.gif
HD4000 can handle Dota2 only in low details setting in FHD screen.

Dell XPS 13 is an ultrabook. Even with Haswell ULT (duo core), and better IGPU (depend on CPU, could be HD4400/4600/5000), maybe a bit under-powered for engineering software.

He is a guy right? Why so concern about weight? hmm.gif

Bootcamp is not pirate tongue.gif It is fully supported by Apple. You just need to get a copy of Win OS (Only the 2011 or newer MBP support W8. W7 should be no problem in general)
Basically bootcamp allow MBP users to dual-boot, selecting which OS to run at start-up. Once you boot into Win OS, it is just another "Wintel" laptop laugh.gif

i really invested in warranty because when i bought my last laptop, "the champion of overheating" compaq cq40 (with amd and radeon3450 no less) they lasted only a year. I did not think much abt warranty back then. Now, warranty is one of my main factor when purchasing a laptop. Furthermore i already factored-in the cost of warranty when i'm deciding my budget smile.gif

i see, it is possible then for me to get similar battery running time if i purchase the 15R? I mean, it has haswell on board, so i can at least expect a similar or better battery running time yes?

Looking for laptop of following specifications:

i) Any except Acer, HP & Fujitsu.
ii) Around RM3000. Slightly higher is ok.
iii) Working purpose (Quite heavy multitasker). Light Gaming like CS only.
iv) Preferred Ultrabook of light weight as need to carry overseas always. Screen size within 13'' to 14''. SSD would be a plus point.

Any suggestion is welcomed. Thanks!

Swing from 1 extreme to another? biggrin.gif
Generally, I will say Accidental Coverage is important for certain type of users:
Those who carry laptop by hand a lot (e.g. move from 1 room to another in office); like to eat and drink beside the laptop; working in hazardous area with uneven surface; butter-fingers; young children using; don't use proper laptop bag (normally ladies tongue.gif); like to bang on keyboard when frustrated laugh.gif, ....
But if you budget for it, by all means go for it. It's the best peace of mind you can get thumbup.gif

As I mentioned, the battery running time of the 15R and 14R won't differ by much smile.gif (both has Haswell right? hmm.gif )

when i went to college, i did some of the things you mentioned (mainly eating/drinking in front of the lappy) sweat.gif
so the accidental damage warranty is pretty much essential smile.gif

i'll be getting the 15R then. thanks for your time and your feedback yeah rclxms.gif notworthy.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
