Morning guys. I need you guys' help
1. Preferred Brand: Any
2. Budget: Max 2k cry.gif
3. Usage: Surfing, doing assigments (mostly PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Prezi)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13 to 11 inch
I prefer lightweight one. It doesn't have to be powerful. Just power efficient and slim cuz my reference books are so damn heavy to be carried to class everyday sad.gif
Looking forward to Haswell too. Is it out yet?

Edit:
I don't think that I'll need touch screen and discrete graphic.

the Y510p is not out yet right?...how bout interm of heat?...
*
Resellers are already taking pre-order. Stocks apparently ready within 2 weeks.
More or less the same thermal profile like Y500. But Y510p (single GPU spec) support Nvidia Optimus, so battery running time is better and thermal profile when using HD4400 is quite ok.

For 11" to 13", most brands are waiting for Haswell ULX (and probably W8.1 too) to refresh the range. Battery running time probably will improve by a lot.
Definitely worth the wait. Wait for 3 more months smile.gif

what if i want something other than apple? are there any?

Apple is cool, apple is best rclxms.gif thumbup.gif (not very good at doing a mock apple fanboi chant laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif )
I suggested Apple MBA since it is the first major brand come out with Haswell spec ultrabook that really push performance and battery running time to new level.
The rest of brands have not really release lots of Haswell spec ultrabook in Malaysia yet.
For ultrabook, Haswell really is worth the wait. If you are not in a hurry, wait for a few more months for more choices.

The thing is you want 13" or below, and want good battery running time.
Want good battery running time, go with ULV CPU. Video conversion, Intel Quick Sync already pretty good. Photo editing - unless you do some extensive stuff, Intel HD4000 can handle it (actually CPU could be more important). Multitask a lot - get more RAM (8G or more).

SSD not only improve battery performance, it also generate a lot less heat - another of your criteria.
It also improve the "responsiveness" of laptop very substantially.
HDD is so cheap now, 1 TB external HDD ~ RM250.

iinm, currently, there is no 13" models spec with ULV CPU & 750GB/1TB HDD. Biggest is 500GB.

No, actually some of the listed models are not ultrabook, there are just light enough, and has HDD as you request.
Ultrabook need to be able to boot up quickly. For Haswell, to recover from hibernation, < 3 sec. Without SSD, that kind of target is just not possible.

Most of the waiting on apps loading are not due to CPU or GPU, but the slow HDD, getting more powerful CPU will not help you. The only way to counter is to go SSD (128G ~ RM300, 256G ~ RM600).
World of tanks could be GPU demanding if you turn up the details.

G480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS
The G480 is your best bet.
