O&G Industry pays top dollar to a skill set called Materials and Acquisitions or Materials & Planning .... similar skill sets as a quantity surveyor.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone is a safety officer in any o&g companies and wondering what r the certification that they normally would like to see from a safety officer. I'm currently a safety officer in a shipyard and want's to try venturing into oil and gas or related field.

I'm in QS field as Contract Administrator. Daily rate salary. Currently working with ExxonMobil. I've been in O&G Contracting & Procurement for 7 years already.

Fresh QS background the place start to work in O&G is by joining fabricator like Brooke Dockyard, THHE, MMHE, Labuan Shipyard, OceanMight, Boustead etc

Weird thing is my degree is in IT biggrin.gif

A good friend of mine, a QS graduate, is now the Procurement Manager (now they call SCM) in one PSC company.

He started as a contracts administrator (he also doubled as meeting's scriber biggrin.gif ) in one of the local fabricators and worked his way up in a few PSC companies before landing on the current job.

Anything is possible in O&G, you just need to work hard and smart, and build a network of connections. And play golf! thumbup.gif

bro....are you fresh graduate? If yes, don't aim to much on salary. Just grab the opportunity 1st, gain as much knowledge & experience.
I will say, in O&G, is not so much different from the fundamental of practice as QS (or what we learn before). Just nature of work is different comparing with building construction.
