yoo long time no see every one here...or rather long time no wifi/cable connection at the rig biggrin.gif

this might sound stupid, but why does a mopu sway like a boat(not as much but very minute ). being the first time being near to a mopu in my fledgling drilling career it kinda startled me since it had all 3 legs preloaded. hmm.gif
*
coz the MOPU legs are not braced like a fixed jacket, and therefore there isnt enough resistance from lateral movements due to wave/wind loads. but the lateral movement is still within the design tolerance.

I have been doing HUC for 1 year plus. Trust me , after a few trips offshore, you will get fedup with the life there and wishing you are back onshore instead. Haha. Longest offshore duration for me was almost 30 days. I know some of hardcore otais here can last for 60 days offsshore rclxms.gif

nowadays young generation are very easy to get fed up with their own works...when their friends tell the HUC got a lof of money..enjoys life at offshore/site everybody wants to jump ship join HUC team...then meet another friend tell Engineering/Design working in air conditional with lucrative wages then everybody wants jump ship join Engineering/Design team..

for me, once you join oil n gas field, better to focus and develop more skills and knowledge so that you can have niche and Subject Matter Expert for the position but for those in offshore, it is different story and end of the day of course everybody would like to stay in onshore

Being a subject matter expert dosent automatically quality you for a managerial position. Yes sure, you can develop skills / knowledge, but remember softskills/leadership is also essential for your development in your career, especially when you are in Client company. So a balance is needed to progress in your career.

+1
Most of the organisation usually hire people just based on experience especially for managerial level.
In fact, experience itself will not determine your ability to manage & lead.
Everybody can gain experience based on yearly working basis. But not everybody can gain managerial & leadership skill.

Hi , im enrolling in a chemical engineering course right now , i would like to ask for advise on which stream to focus on which will be more applicable to OnG industry

Biotechnology
The opportunities for the application of chemical engineering skills in biotechnology are widespread - from tissue engineering to biosensor development and from development of an artificial kidney to drug delivery - from fermentation processes to biofuels and from drug development to biopolymers.

Sustainable processing
Sustainable processing is concerned with the principles of sustainability and life cycle assessment to the development of environmentally clean technologies for product manufacturing and power generation. In this stream, students will learn how to develop processes for generating energy and for manufacturing existing and new products from renewable raw material sources.

can anyone in the industry give some helpful insight? smile.gif , the second is more like environemt engineering , while first one is more like biochemistry

I'm enrolling in Monash Sunway Campus

Thanks for any helpful information

*
Upstream relates to the exploration and extraction of the hydrocarbons and usually the point or the line between upstream and downstream stops at the Gas gathering / Oil collection stage at the refinery etc. In layman terms, anything to do with Exploration (Seismic, drilling etc etc) are upstream and anything to do in refining and selling the products is the downstream side.

Usually Upstream pays much higher than downstream.
