Seldom got engineer just stay in office do design. Nowadays job requires one person not only do design, but also have site knowledge, able to climb up/down. Even consultant need to go site survey and go to site during commissioning phase.

Bart, better to stay with SK. U should know why, the are big EPCIC company know. They targeting all market in Malaysia.
Furthermore they have IBD (International Business Dept) to look potential international projects.

Sometimes we need to choose salary might be less, but long term career path is good. Or some of company will paid high, but the project only have 1 and 2. So you think and decide.

Guys' I've been offered to work with kencana marine as fresh grad in lumut..what do you think of this career path. I heard the job is for project management for epcc of wheatstone project modules (70% site and 30% desk) and have to wear coveralls and stay in the yard. (I've always wanted to go offshore) My background is construction and what are my chances of going offshore? the HR from SK said there will be chance to go offshore, subject to operation requirement of SK ( I don't know what probability).

I'm currently working in a multidisciplinary consulting firm(mainly construction) and the pay is freaking good, permanent,good benefits, very nice working environment, good training and colleagues.

I'm having a hard time to decide now, since for now, SK is the only Oil and Gas company that called me. I have applied about 7 oil and gas companies.

My job now requires a lot of thinking and design structures, which is real engineering. My current boss is also an ir.

what is the income of an ir compared to a project manager in downstream oil and gas?

Try TLO or Pinewell (I heard TLO offers a much higher starting pay). From my experience, Lumut team dont get to go offshore much. Even if they do I heard their allowance is quite sad.
Well offshore you deal straight with all the workers. You are going to live with them, yet work with them and make sure they perform.

Anyway, i've already listed some potential companies, where my majors could be interesting for them. the problem is, i'm not sure if  joining those companies (which are more into production of pipeline & welding services) would lead me to field job. should i start with them and gain some experience with them first (even though not directly involved in OnG)?

Act, i've already done 3 internship before, but never in OnG (no luck).  This year, i'll try my best to get one in this industry, so that i've something to put on my CV (and gain some knowledge about this industry as well!). But i was wondering if we get paid during internship in Malaysia? And if yes, how much? 

Just wondering, will structural engineer in oil n gas ,client/epcc(feed) get to go offshore (often)? How hard is it to get Ir if working as structural engineer in, say Technip? thanks

Just sharing my experience with the freshies.

Currently working as a SHE Officer with a very big FMCG MNC, based in Kch.

Now considering offer from one O & G company in Miri as Corporate SHE Manager, the offer of three times my current salary.

Took a long time for me to get there, but I went through three different industries (13 years in electronics, plantation and food manufacturing) to get to the O & G industry.

So my point is that, even though you dont get there immediately after graduating, sometimes you have to do the hard way, but at least with years of experience, you will get what you want. Never give up! Now at least I will get what I deserve....

Anyone here knows the prospect and salary of subsea project engineer as compared to lets say project engineer dealing with fpso. I am a project engineer mostly dealing with metering skid fabrication, thinking that carrying subsea tittle ought to command higher salary, right? Since it is something niche, and knowing that subsea is the segment with higher pay. I am confused about my carrer path. It is advisable to apply for it?

I have applied before with TH Heavy. Didn't even called me for intw..maybe cos of my salary already high. Its a shipyard...what do you expect. Dusty...hot...noisy..i am at MMHE now. Same condition.
