Firstly SK is a sub-con for the Wheatstone LNG project as the main EPCC is Bechtel.

And no you will never go offshore if you are placed in Wheatstone LNG plant(something like pengerang) project well thats somewhere around 4-5 years the project is expected to be done. You might go to australia being in the project team  for interfacing but I highly doubt thats going to happen.
*
Yep...agreed with that. I don't think you will able to going to offshore under Wheatstone project.
In fact, most of the fabrication team at lumut usually will not going to offshore.. If you interested for offshore work, you should join other subsidiaries under SK such Kencana Pinewell (HUC work) or TLO (offshore installation)

I totally agree with your statement that if you know the company underpays you, then it's time to move on. New recruits/expats to my company is also being paid exorbitantly higher than most of us and it's creating some friction. One of the reason that a lot of the existing staff are looking for other opportunities.
*
YUpp.. yup... BUt $ is also not everything... once u progress in life, ur priority also changed...
So just take the best that suit your current situation...

Hmmm.. even org tempatan pun bising bec yg baru masuk this yr dapat 35% lagi tinggi...
I guess the company has its own calculation on this 'friction' thing...

Bart, better to stay with SK. U should know why, the are big EPCIC company know. They targeting all market in Malaysia.
Furthermore they have IBD (International Business Dept) to look potential international projects.

Sometimes we need to choose salary might be less, but long term career path is good. Or some of company will paid high, but the project only have 1 and 2. So you think and decide.
*
Yep.. yep...
unless u are willing to lompat sana, lompat sini.... Some friends who are doing that are well paid off...
But u must have a big gut to do it...

Some people even with train racks are doing it...
I am not so much of a risk taker... so I couldn't be bothered abt jumping from a place to the next...
But then, it all boils down to individual preference too

ops, sorry. i'm still new here.

ok, as i stated above, i will be graduating next year in material engineering and production management (it's a double major program). i know that it's still early, but i was wondering about the best way to get into OnG industry (especially exploration, drilling, field etc). maybe the chance wont be as big as those who doing mecha, chemi, civil etc, or i'll have to start from bottom, but it doesnt really bother me. as long as i can get onto the right track, i would be really thankful.

So guys, do you have any suggestion? Please please please.

(^^)Y

U r very much on the right track... U will graduate next year but start early to think abt your options... This is the correct attitude to excel in life.. Plan ahead.. very much ahead...

I do not know much about your majors.. however, I can offer you general advices...
Think about how your majors could be of benefit to the oil and gas company. Once you can see how you can relate your majors to the specific jobs within the industry, then search for the potential companies. Study a little about the companies to give you some general idea. Write to them, and since you still have about a year before you graduate, try to apply for internship. That will be part of your tickets to get involve. And if you can generate interest of oil majors then it is better.

judging from your respond, shows that you're not a site guy i.e. why thinking going offshore if you're not a site guy for a start? If you're good designing on papers, how good are you managing people? cos that is by far the most difficult thing to manage on a daily basis.
*
i agree

Try TLO or Pinewell (I heard TLO offers a much higher starting pay). From my experience, Lumut team dont get to go offshore much. Even if they do I heard their allowance is quite sad.

I was a project engineer in my previous contracting company and have been to site countless times. In fact I love to be at site. Managing people is not a problem as I will liaise with the project coordinator etc, not the labourer..
*
Well offshore you deal straight with all the workers. You are going to live with them, yet work with them and make sure they perform.

Yeap, my priority has always been my children's education. Had to pass on the 1 million/year career as my children punya schooling in the new place is problematic.

Takde rezeki .... need to accept that decision ...

Kikeh has sanding problem which destroys the liner and probably the well head as well. Water is breaking through as well and Gumusut wells apparently is producing water as well .... basically the $hit has hit the fan.

Yeah, a bit dissappointed about it but I'm sure I will move on. Career wise, it was a great opportunity but career is not the only thing in life, still have a good career and the kids are doing okay so in terms of balance, maybe it's a good thing.

Yea... and I know abt the kids' situation too... I am hoping she's coping well for the time being...

In a way I am sad that that u have to drop that opportunity...
But on the other end, I am glad to still be able to see you together.... with me...
U r one of the workers that I respect for the knowledge u have

Tak ada rezeki kat situ for the time being...
But who knows next time...
As long as we keep honing our technical skills and add more... we will be fine... except in some cases x leh tunjuk terlampau.. nanti semua kerja kita kena pikul...

I always believe that Allah always has more goodies in store that we don't know...
So x dapat this time, he plans for the better next time smile.gif

I dont know about the starting salary. I have few friends in BV working as surveyor and plan approval. Currently their surveyors very busy. My friend sometimes doesnt has time for weekend with family. He covers both ships and offshore. The good thing is he told me that he still didnt use his allowance for June.. drool.gif drool.gif

The surveyor basically doing inspections on the structural, machinery, safety equipments and also other documentations based on the specific class regulations and international regulations.
