Nah, just looking for areas to branch into and get a little idea of how things work. A little bit of everything makes a good engineer.

Plus I have my BOP course at UNSW coming up so it might be useful to know a little more.
*
Have you sit for the well control course? It would help a little bit on the few method of well killing operations...

I never heard of the operating companies here called the Boots and Coots personnel to kill the wells, not on our rigs here..

You mean which company offering the course? If in KL, I would say PTTCO has a good instructors.

For aussie crews, we sent them to UNSW...It is good if you can go to the BOP course/workshop prior to take the well control course, you mght understand more when you learn the Equipments Section.

There are 20 months training programme. If successfully completed the training with excellent record, then will be bonded for two years. Is it a go? Currently I am also waiting for interview result from SK. Think I performed well in the interview. Plus, the interviewer mentioned that I may join other department such as drilling after one year working. Should I wait or just go with MMHE?

Thx! smile.gif
*
MMHE basically doing new building, repairs and conversion projects. Vessels and/or offshore platform (jacket and topside). I believe you will be familiarize yourself with the fabrication/construction process during the 20months tenure in MMHE. And I guess SK (SapuKencang, if i'm right) also have Kencana HL which they fabricate/construct their own drilling rigs. I think the drilling division is called KMD (or SKD). So, I dont know if they offer you on the drilling operation side BUT if you join their project team for the rig contruction (myb as a client rep), the knowledge that you gained in MMHE would be valueable for you.

Malaysian joint venture allowed back into upstream sector
Australia’s WorleyParsons said the suspended licence of its Malaysian joint venture has now been reinstated, allowing it to conduct upstream activities in the country.

Local media revealed on Wednesday that state regulator Petronas had issued a licence suspension to Ranhill Worley, an engineering company jointly owned by WorleyParsons and Ranhill Energy and Resources.

This effectively banned the company from working in both the upstream and downstream sectors of Malaysia as of 17 July, including participating in any new or ongoing Petronas tenders.

In an emailed statement to Upstream on Thursday, WorleyParsons said resolution had now been achieved with Petronas, providing for the reinstatement of the licence.

However, the reinstatement will only permit Ranhill Worley from conducting upstream activities.

A WorleyParsons spokesperson confirmed on Thursday that the downstream suspension was still in place, although added that “this represents a very small part of the business”.

Local reports suggested the suspension was related to work undertaken on Petronas’ Melaka regasification project, which suffered delays and other issues. However, this has not been confirmed.

you are a girl, right?

probably because u are office-based.. but since mine is field-based, there are suddenly so many guys.. nasib baik dah ada bf to say no to temptations huhuhu

I remember a few yrs ago on the rig when a completion lady came onboard, not long to get all crews know/remember her name. When the lady on the rigfloor, roughnecks became hyperactive, most of the servicehand showed up working/servicing their tools and when someone paging her, there will be someone replying by making some kind of sound via paging system....its kind of motivates the crews..we're rarely have lady onboard, unlike other rigs working for pcsb which many trainees came onboard every year...

Hi..Currently Im working with a consultant company, and working as  piping engineer, and it is subsea piping.. It has been almost a year I've been working as a piping engineer, basically office job and doing stress analysis..My dream job is act drilling engineer or maybe hookup or commisioning..need help from all sifus here, what shud I do..proceed with the current job or start chasing my dream job?? Im more on field kind of guy, stuck in office really make me hate my job..
*
Boss, Drilling Engineer also mostly office based. If you're really keen to work offshore/field, I think better you applying for service companies (slb, baker hughes, halliburton, scomi, NOV, GE Oil&Gas, Weatherford etc) or join hook-up or commissioning like you said...or...you also can look for a training program with drilling companies (Transocean, Seadrill etc)...
