Hi all sifu,

I am petrochemical product application specialist (mainly surfactants, glycols and amines) in petchem company currently. How far my experience can go in O&G industry? Any O&G companies will value this experience greatly? I am still new 2-3 years exp.

Thank you.

Off course. Malaysia is now embarking on Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and one of the biggest project is the Chemical EOR in Angsi by PETRONAS Carigali. They will be using Alkaline Surfactant Polymer for the Chemical Flooding. Your experience will be valuable to such project.

If you have no other choice and are willing to start fresh. Go for it. The prospect for a career as a Geologist is bright. You can also contribute to the team since you do have some background in Mech Engineering so people can't BS you that much when they talk about Facilities.

Dear azraeil, actually my second choice is continue doing my degree in pure mechanical engineering in my former university. Do you think I'll have bright career prospect as well in future being a mechanical engineer in OnG industry ? unsure.gif

Hi. I'm currently working as onboard geophysicist doing 2d seismic data processing for geohazard company. Currently, my seismic processing sequence is quite routine with no chance of doing AVO, well ties, 3d seismic, etc2 which i think is highly sought after in exploration.

I'm wondering on how difficult would it be for me to join exploration company like cgg, western geco or others, since i have no experience in oil exploration. Currently thinking of switching company cause my pay right now is too average and offshore allowance is not that much. Been working for a year already..

Weather ok bro?

yo bro, weather was ok the first few days i was there, then fuhhh the monsoon full blast. winds up to 30ish knots i think. and the seas...very big waves. that coupled with intense raining non stop. all that was still going on till yesterday, tho the rain stopped and the sun just peeked a bit, winds was still strong.

when you think youre going back, to land, what you get...more water...ayak. rclxub.gif

the worst monsoon to date according to pantai timur residents.

Hello, I will be graduating soon and I would like to venture in Oil & Gas working environment. But the problem is that my degree is Construction Management.

I've been searching and applying for some time. If there's any vacancy at your company could I send my CV?

I know that with my degree it is hard to compete with the others so I'm willing to start from the bottom so I could have a solid base in the future.

Thanks smile.gif
btw. I will graduate January 2014 from UiTM Bsc Hons Construction Management

Hi everyone I am majoring in accountacy and graduating soon. Wonder if theres any chance for me to get into the Oil & Gas field without an engineering degree?

If yes what is the job role and pay I should expect?

if your intention is to join the E&P, a "rojak" academic background(mecha+geoscience) will definitely helps you in later years to come.you can easily integrate what you learnt in the past with what you currently working on if you are involved in field development project. if you intended to pursue pure mechanical engineering course, definitely this will opens up more chances for you to join the O&G as mechanical engineering is a very versatile degree. relatively, a geoscience background might lack in versatility if compare to a mecha background.but at the end, who has the highest probability to have the highest earning power?? brows.gif .well, of course it's highly dependent on your personal characteristics and attitude.

PS:many people likes to eat rojak...rojak is the best thumbup.gif

Good evening,

I'm doing my Diploma in Mechanical Engineering(Manufacturing) in Politeknik and will be graduating by the end of 2014. Currently i'm doing good, maintaining CGPA >3.0 and i'm interested in joining the OnG industry, preferably Schlumberger (FE, FS , MT). Question, is it too early to start applying by next January? as I heard the process from applying to interviewing to getting the job can take up a lot of time. I'm trying not to waste time sitting at home once I graduate. And as a freshie to be, how can I stand out among the other students to be accepted for interviews from OnG companies since all of us will have a diploma? Should I go for welding/OSH courses during my holidays and get a few certs? With a diploma can I apply for FE? or am I only eligible for FS and MT.

Thanks in advance.

No, it is not. SLB hire throughout the year. There are many stages of interview so apply early. Welding courses doesnt help if you going to apply for FS in SLB. A degree is required to apply for FE.

Thank you for your reply. What does a FS do specifically? Does it branch out in any way?

Depends on which segment you join. Due to the nature of SLB business, FS will be doing upstream operation like logging, drilling. Most the time, FS is the helper of FE. I would say most of FS started in wireline and D&M. Thats just the starting point, you may end up become a field service manager, recruiter etc.. It is flexible in SLB.

Anyway, I'd encourage you to further your study to degree level.. for better career path.

For a diplome freshie, the job prospect is good. If you like hands on job and ready to go offshore, this is for you. Your learning attitude determine your future. You will not stay as a FS forever. Lots of chance in this company.

Sounds like me.I prefer Upstream. Will start applying online now, hopefully my early application does not affect my chance of being called for an interview. Any tips for me ?
