if everything same why changing model? Y510p use latest 4th gen Haswell processor...
Y500 use 3rd Gen Sandy Bridge Processor..
*
its a new processor, there isnt much benchmarks out there that show how much performance increase there is over the 3rd gen i7. But according to few sifus, both performance the same, only thing is haswell is more efficient, meaning it can accommodate more processing power with less power consumption but its not necessarily faster

QUOTE(ajul @ Jul 3 2013, 09:20 PM)
for me..if u gaming..battery life izzit u need to care about?
*
a laptop is suppose to be flexible. if you want gaming, why not just buy a freaking GAMING DESKTOP PC? CHEAPER RIGHT? Your logic has issues.

this laptop is flexible. we can swap hardwares via the ULTRABAY, if i wanna game, i pop in the extra GPU, if i want to do my work, pop in the extra hdd or ODD. that said, if i wanna bring my laptop out to do work, having some extra battery life helps ALOT.

The thing about technology is, no matter how good your production and manufacturing line can be, there will always be faulty parts , hardware or software.

As a seller, you can sell however you want, you can obtain the product from anywhere you like, BUT can you guarantee when the product breaks down that the buyer can send it to the local service centre to fix for FREE?

OR can you guarantee, you will use your own pocket money to fund the repair if the local service centre will not honour your product?

if you say YES, than i'm sure many people won't mind buying from you. but if you're silent about this, i'm sorry for people who have warranty issues in the future.

Btw, is it fine? I'm gonna read the feedback at nvidia's forums... i'm scared of the 320.xx version drivers as previous ones bring so many trouble sad.gif

for performance, i didnt notice any change, especially crysis 3, feel nothing

but i do feel the temperature drop slightly lower when playing prototype 2, far cry 3, put my pc in high performance mode, I say it that way because previously the air that coming out feel very hot, now not that hot...

and do not encounter any bsod and crash issue so far....everything smooth biggrin.gif

well, cpu performance is same i think.. coz both y500 and y510 has same processor (if I'm not mistaken)

GPU performance also same... but still up to the driver used... if using default driver, y510p i think going to have a bit better performance since it uses 311.49 driver (not sure whether 311.47/49/48 sorry xD) whereas y500 has 311.27...

anti-glare screen? same oso... my y500 no screen protector, i play with the monitor facing my house's window, still no glare one... still can see things in my desktop clearly..  thumbup.gif
*
bro, Glossy screens look nicer. The blacks are deeper and the colours are richer.

Matte screens (anti glare ) look a little duller, but give a truer representation of the actual colour, and are arguably easier to look at for extended periods, since your eyes don't try to see through the image to the reflection underneath. With a matte screen you also have the issue of little bits of dust collecting at the bottom of the bezel.

but usually higher end models have matte screen option, take example, anti glare screen mac book pro.

there wont be much performance difference unless you run benchmarking softwares, or else when you're gaming, you rarely see the difference becoz with SLI, our gpu can support almost any games that will come out in the next 3-5years.

y510p is not about full gaming , its cheap and affordable

Is just a entry level of gaming on a mobile and seriously lousy cooling

If you want full gaming , you are going to pay more than 4000 ....

GTX 780M , 8500$ or MSI GT70 or ASUS G750JH etc or buy FROM ILLEGEAR

Having Nvidia Optimus is seriously a big thing for gamers on the go if you dont like battery , why the heck you want to buy a notebook ? just build a mITX gaming Desktop then

Plus haswell processor not only save battery life also save power means lower temperature

its not entry level. with SLI, its a mid range CLASS 1 GPU my friend. means its quite hardcore in the list.

if you compare with MSI gt70, the only reason why the msi is better is becoz its fully customizable hardware. ( can remove and add in your own hardwares ) but in terms of cooling, both uses single fan cooling system, infact i think the Y500 / Y510P is more efficient, becoz the air intake is bottom, and blows air to the sides.

Asus is stuck with their silly stealth design, maintenance for the laptop is lousy because to access the hardware need to remove alot of screws and stuff.

so if you dont know your stuff, i'm letting you know.

the y500 is affordable strong competitor for other high end gaming laptops out there.

thx for the reply bro.. Btw, can u test on these games?

1. Remember Me
2. Assassin's Creed 3
3. Tomb Raider

Oso are u gaming with SLI? Coz for me, when I play Remember Me and Tomb Raider, SLI not functioning (can notice this when only onboard GPU gets hot while the ultrabay GPU remains cool)

Well, buying dekstop pc for power gaming is, as u say, cheaper and much better. But this applies to people who want to game at the comfort of their own house.

for me, I'm a serious (almost hardcore) gamer. I do own a desktop pc, but I'm buying a gaming laptop as soon I'll be constantly travelling (furthering my studies cry.gif ) and I'm looking to play my games wherever I want (mobility)...

Battery life and temperature means nothing as I'm going to be playing at a minimum 4-5 hours, so for sure I'm playing while my laptop is going to get heated up and my laptop would be connected to the adapter 24/7. I never use my laptop on battery ONLY as gaming with battery decreases the performance in-game by up to 80%..

I only depend on battery should I be asked to do some presentation during my classes. Even for that activity, I have the option to transfer my file to external-HDD or to my USB and use my friend's laptop.

So basically, that's the logic from my POV.

P/S: I'm not crazy enough to buy Illegear/ASUS/Alienware products as Lenovo Y500 are on par with some of their high-end gaming laptop. I've done some research, even went through all the shops at Lowyatt. And yeah, my laptop's specs are almost the same with those Illegear/ASUS/Alienware laptop, but with a much much cheaper price.

Y500/510 cooling system is better than MSI gt70? Go google some disassemble picture of both laptop.

Its no comparison. Y500/510's cooling, while decent, are not up to the standard of Asus/MSI/AW etc brand gaming laptop.

ive seen the hardware disassembled in front of me bro. i know pretty much how thick the msi is as well. the vents are huge becoz of the size of that thing. but as i said, it was my opinion that the y500 is better.

Yes, they do give very good deals. smile.gif. However, no Y510P available from them yet. Only newegg seems to have & they are importing them from the US.

Hmm. from the Lenovo US website, the current price for a Y510P SLI GT750M is USD 1299 with the ecoupon. Nice config.
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideap...510p/#customize

If you are planning on studying in the states, consider getting it there as the price can sometimes be as good as Hikari's.
If you get it locally, better check on how to claim warranty once you're overseas.

What misleading? It has been stated several times already that if you have a US set and you want to Claim Warranty In Malaysia, You Have to :-

ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam)

Customers requiring International Warranty Service in any of the ASEAN countries may be asked to provide one of the following in order to obtain IWS warranty repair service; proof of company identification (company letter, email, business card, company badge with photo ID), proof of purchase (purchase receipt, official order, delivery note, sales memo, or invoice), and/or proof of travel (passport with valid Visa to or from country where product was purchased, or other travel documents).

Can Read Or Not? If Still Cannot read here :- http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.pag...ocID=MIGR-58926

The same applies for Malaysian set claiming warranty in the US. Instead of providing US proof, you provide Malaysian proof to the US.

For your information also, before March 1 2007 most of Asean region dont have International Warranty Service.

There. I put my document straight from Lenovo already. So if Lenovo Malaysia ask you all those documentations, get it ready la. What? Don't have? Lenovo T&C very clear already.

ok, first and foremost, bear in mind that y500 has 2 versions. The old one is the one with gt650m graphic card, while the new one is the one with gt750m graphic card.

Well, as i've said, the most noticeable difference between y510p and y500 is the battery life. Others are y510p has quicksync function (i'm not sure what this is) and also the processor use new ivy bridge or something, which in a way could increase performance by a little to none compared to the y500..

the touchpad and wifi issues that occur in the old version of y500 is no longer present in the new version of y500...

overheating actually never happens... the only thing that overheats during all my time owning this new version of y500 is that the graphic card gets overheated. But this only happen after i've played games on high settings for 4-5 hours at non air-conditioned room and without cooling pad. smile.gif

i think better u get SLI version as the price with SLI is rm3880, while without SLI is rm33xx~35xx... price for additional GPU is rm6xx~8xx...

Urm, i'm not sure about PES as my installer disc is with my fren, and he already further his studies sweat.gif

I tried copying my PES 13 and some other games from my desktop PC, but due to this stupid McAfee antivirus that came with this laptop, I can't play some of my games (the pirate ones) as the antivirus automatically deletes the crack files as it thinks they are virus/trojan... doh.gif

But i really do think that y500 can run PES 13 and FIFA 13 with high settings on single GPU as both of those games are seriously not demanding.

i don't have Battlefield, sorry. haven't even tried one of the games from the Battlefield series.

COD i only have COD 4- Modern Warfare and COD 5- World at War.. I don't have the latest versions of COD sweat.gif

Racing games? Well, I've only got NFS Undercover and the latest one is NFS The Run.. Undercover can run fine, but NFS The Run I have problem running in SLI, so I ran in single GPU mode, and yes.. it runs perfectly fine....

Removable fan i'm not sure, but I think better buy cooling pad than removable fan as most ultrabay parts are expensive, price varies from rm2xx to rm8xx based on which ultrabay part... (for y500, someone recommend me buy Cooler Master U3, costs about rm75 only)

p/s: I'm not a sifu yet ler~ >.< I'm just a junior member of this forum who had read the whole V1 thread before buying this y500 laptop of mine, so yeah... It was worth it.. biggrin.gif

thanks .. u are the man .. hehe .. i really appreciated yr feedbacks ..

yeah, i think mybe all antivirus will detect the crack file as virus 'rld.dll' .. i just restore the file to play it .. i'm too worried bout it coz my lappy (ASUS X44H-core i3 only) has broke down after playing this crack. i dont know what is actual issue of it broke.

about the price, hikari85 sell it only Rm2829 (non-SLI) and RM 3670 for SLI ver. and removable fan only RM75 ..

how about the difference between both screen ?
