Hi! 3 weeks y500 user here!  rclxms.gif

Well, FOR ME, it actually depends on the type of game i'm playing, and the overheat is not "OVER" at all. The temperature around the keyboard area is actually quite "warm" and "ok-ok" la... but the graphic card section gets hot after playing 2 to 4 hours of gaming (around high settings for new games)...
But the heat dissipates around 30 minutes after i exit the game (shows that y500 cooling system is top-notch!  thumbup.gif )

Be aware though, I'm playing this laptop in a quite cramped space, non-air-conditioned room, no cooler-pad, and my laptop is not lifted a bit to allow maximum ventilation for my laptop...

So if u wanna play on this laptop with max performance while increasing the time-limit before laptop gets hot, u have to:
1. Play in a spacious place to allow max ventilation (Spacious room, vents of laptop not blocked, good air circulation in room)
2. Play in air-conditioned room (Well, it's cold, so go figure! )
3. Use cooled-pad if possible (costs some $$, someone told me to get CoolerMaster U3 Pad or something as the size of laptop is compatible with this cooling pad, price around rm75)
4. Lift the laptop a bit (place a book or something to raise laptop, as y500 has another vent-with-fans below it, which blows heat outside from CPU and RAM)
5. Don't play at bed or ur lap or something, it blocks the vents, reduce function of vents, and may cause ur lap to burn! So be careful..  icon_rolleyes.gif

do u use single or dual graphics?

i just installed nvidia 320.49 driver ( weird someone in this forum said it is beta but i didnt found anything stating it is ).

glad that it is actually for 750m unlike previous driver which i have to choose 740m in the drop down menu.

stable for me, and got a very cool feature that it can optimize games from its own nvidia control panel.

maybe it is not a new feature but it is new for me hehe
*
LOL! Actually if u search the driver, there's a beta and there's a WHQL.. u downloaded the WHQL version... waaaa, i just know about this new driver thanks to ur post~ thanks thanks thanks!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Btw, is it fine? I'm gonna read the feedback at nvidia's forums... i'm scared of the 320.xx version drivers as previous ones bring so many trouble sad.gif

of course dual graphics le... xD

performance on gaming is great, now all that's left is to wait for a new driver for this graphic card so that i can run my latest games with better performance (the 320.xx series of drivers causes many problems, so i don't dare use them :/ )

additional GPU = SLI

y500 oso got additional GPU.. only advantage of y510p is that it has Nvidia Optimus, which means have longer battery life (approx 4~6 hours) compared to y500 (3~4 hours)....

But for nvidia optimus to function, u have to disable SLI (I'm not sure if optimus is enabled when sli is disabled thru nvidia control panel, but nvidia optimus will 100% enable when u remove the additional gpu from the ultrabay and replace with other ultrabay items such as DVD-rom, HDD, etc)

All in all, y510p's advantage over the y500 is only regarding the battery life.. and also QuickSync function (i have no idea what that is.. other forumer told me about this)

well, cpu performance is same i think.. coz both y500 and y510 has same processor (if I'm not mistaken)

GPU performance also same... but still up to the driver used... if using default driver, y510p i think going to have a bit better performance since it uses 311.49 driver (not sure whether 311.47/49/48 sorry xD) whereas y500 has 311.27...

anti-glare screen? same oso... my y500 no screen protector, i play with the monitor facing my house's window, still no glare one... still can see things in my desktop clearly.. thumbup.gif

if everything same why changing model? Y510p use latest 4th gen Haswell processor...
Y500 use 3rd Gen Sandy Bridge Processor..

A US set will always now and will be a US set, subject to international warranty condition, which most people cannot hope to fulfil (well, unless you did buy it in the US). So extending your warranty means you will still face problems.

dont misleading people bro..even buy US set..for sure that item buy at US...thats why US set...then import to Malaysia...thats called parralel import for some statement...but it still have 1 year Internantional warranty...what if i export my Malaysia set to US and selling there? izzit my item cant claim warranty there? if cant why they call it Internantional Warranty? just put there Local warranty...like previous 4-5year ago..tongue.gif

well, as i said, i didn't know about cpu performance... I only knw that y510p have nvidia optimus function for better battery life and have quicksync function (even i dunnoe what's that lmao)

but still, the only obvious difference between y500 and y510p is the battery life.. the ivy bridge/haswell thingy i'm not sure what changes it would make.. any sifu can chip in this conversation anytime now sweat.gif

that's what i thought too.. i buy y500 because i wanna use it for gaming and heavy work, so most of the time i would use it on adapter.... battery only for presentation.... plus, in y500, using battery will make ur game lag like hell... >.<
