Hi Guys, I've got a few questions on the Lenovo Y500 GT750M SLI. 1. The stock notebook comes with 8GB RAM in a single stick, so upgrading to 16GB by adding in an additional compatible RAM later shouldn't be a problem, right? Anyone done this with their Y500? 2. From the Lenovo flyer, the Y500(59-378187) is shown as equipped with a 120W adapter, but I also noticed some sellers selling the notebook with an additional 170W adapter as well (basically a 120W and 170W adapter). Shouldn't the stock Lenovo Y500 come with the 170W adapter as its running 2 GPUs? Any advantages or disadvantages? 3. What is the screen resolution? 1920x1080? Thanks, Dbassnut

QUOTE(maxlol @ Jun 17 2013, 04:07 PM) Hi, can anyone verify that there is white powder at the bottom intake vent of the Y500. I think it could either be thermal paste or some other chemical. Any advice will much appreciated I just bought it 3 weeks ago. Also the F11 key seems to be half lit. hmm. Powder at the bottom of the intake vent. Dandruff? Just kidding. It could be plastic shavings from when they installed the screws. Or dried thermal paste (usually greyish white). Kind of worrying though as I too am thinking of getting a Y500 SLI GT750M. Did you upgrade your warranty to onsite warranty? How much RAM did your model come with?

QUOTE(maxlol @ Jun 17 2013, 04:51 PM) Thanks for your reply. Can't seem to find any info online. Um is that normal? Should I call a technician over to have it check? Yeah my warranty was upgraded from 1 to 2 years. The dealer did it for me though. You need to give your model number and a few other info. Once it is done you can check using this website: http://support.lenovo.com/en_MY/product-se...us/default.page? Mine came with 8gb ddr3 the specs say single stick No worries about touch pad though. I think the problem has been solved. In fact it's better than a lot that I have tried win 8 gestures works as it should. Keyboard on the other hand, the F11 key is half lit Read a few post with the same problem. Hi Maxlol, If you have the onsite warranty, do call the tech over to check. Also, save a sample of the white powder (put it in a small plastic bag) to show the tech. I've heard that the Wireless Communication modules on the earlier Y500 models weren't so good. How is the one on yours?

QUOTE(maxlol @ Jun 18 2013, 02:06 PM) Lol the powder still stuck to the bottom grating Thanks. So far no disconnection and or random drops. Works normally on my streamyx 1mbps (maybe that's why). Not sure about blue tooth though haven't tested. I think that problem was for Y400 and Y500 650m. The problems they faced seemed to be rectified including touch-pad responsiveness. So far the only touchpad I like better are those on the MacBook Pro. Other problems that persist are some keys are only half lit and the build seems a bit iffy such as scratches right out the box. Other than that there's the white powder which I have no idea what it is. About putting the white powder into a bag, maybe not such a good idea. Kind of hard to explain if a policeman asks you what it is. lol. By the way, you may want to see it insides of the Y500 (its the one with the GT650M) which should be similar to the GT750 one. Here it is. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo...ok.87585.0.html

QUOTE(maxlol @ Jun 18 2013, 03:19 PM) Thanks for the link. Now my two vents at the side has got a type of chemical smell as well. The smell was there the day I first bought it and switched it on. I thought it was new plastic smell. Now still have....... hmm. if it is a sharp chemical smell (something like what you get when you burn out a fluorescent lamp), it could be that one of the capacitors on the board already kaput. Better get a lenovo technician to check. also, better email them & keep a copy of the email just in case.

QUOTE(jrshow @ Jun 18 2013, 04:46 PM) what is the different of 750m and 650m? About 100m. just kidding. The 750m is supposed to be 10% faster. http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?g...e-gt-650m-gddr5I prefer using the info on this site however. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...0M.90245.0.htmlhttp://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...0M.71887.0.htmlHope this helps.

QUOTE(jrshow @ Jun 18 2013, 04:57 PM) thxs bro..planning to buy a computer.. Me too. Considering the Y500 or Y510p. Used to consider Asus but too many horror stories about their SC. Illegear is good but slightly out of my budget. Plus their SC is in Johor, so I cannot go & camp in their lobby if I send a lappy back for repair. Lenovo got a SC in Penang so I can go annoy them if something goes wrong. Plus, it's durian season. You don't want to have a argument with an irritated customer who just had durian for lunch. .

QUOTE(AiSheep @ Jun 18 2013, 05:05 PM) If you getting y510p, check the processor is it running 4700QM as advertise. :3 because the new batch comes with 4702QM which is slightly low clock than 4700QM well, the Y510p isn't here yet & the advertisement for Lenovo US is already misleading. For example, the SLI version is advertised as a a GT750M + ultrabay GT720M. For SLI, shouldn't both cards be GT750M? Hope the Y510p arrives in Malaysia soon.

QUOTE(jrshow @ Jun 18 2013, 05:31 PM) because of nowadyas theasus sells had increase alot..they didnt expected on this..so give them some time to do.. Hopefully they do improve. I really liked the G55VX but it isn't so presentable for work as it really looks like a gamers dream machine. Lenovo Y500s & Y510p look more business like, & so do the illegear RS-15. Will probably be buying one of them after the Y510p comes in next month (hopefully). Also, plus for Lenovo is that I can upgrade the warranty to on-site warranty, which means their tech will have to come to my place & not I go to them.

QUOTE(yewMP5 @ Jul 2 2013, 04:15 PM) seller here is always better cos always selling with promo or cheaper than SRP, hikari85 and storm88 them Yes, they do give very good deals. . However, no Y510P available from them yet. Only newegg seems to have & they are importing them from the US. Hmm. from the Lenovo US website, the current price for a Y510P SLI GT750M is USD 1299 with the ecoupon. Nice config. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideap...510p/#customizeIf you are planning on studying in the states, consider getting it there as the price can sometimes be as good as Hikari's. If you get it locally, better check on how to claim warranty once you're overseas.

QUOTE(arielravenfall @ Jul 8 2013, 04:23 PM) nope. Still don't have the money to buy cooling pad.. why? The Y500 is supposed to run a little hot so it was recommended to get a cooling pad on some of the reviews.
