Meat is high in protein and no carbohydrate. Eggs is high in protein and no carbohydrate. Cottage cheese is high in protein as well, and contains some carbohydrates.
Basically just avoid rice, pasta, bread, potato, and sweet stuff. |

Meat and leafy vegetables. If going to eat carbs, preferably go for those complex carbohydrates rather than simple carbs.

If you're a bodybuilder you should have some carb in your diet, carb helps your body process/absord protein, which you'll need to build muscles. If you just wanna stay lean and not build muscles, then year have low carb diet.

Carbo tends to burn faster end may lead to sudden surge of glucose level in the blood, causing rapid insulin response. You feel better after taking high carbo food but after a while, your energy level also drop fast. One of the reason for the diabetic patients to take note. Every food also has the glycaemic index. The higher, the worse. Wherelse, high protein food releases the energy slowly and efficiently, giving constant energy to your body. Any wrong facts ?

Just dont totally avoid the rice, trust me, it do no different between dont eat them at all or eat some in the meal. Plus some more, if you eat some rice, you will have more energy to do more exercice and can do longer. |

Soy Protein and Whey Protein Powder helps to build and maintain lean muscle mass. Protein helps to convert those fats inside our body becomes muscle. That is why when body building, your weight stays the same, but ur body size become muscular. So, better to take more protein for ur body building.

I'm rather sure, fats can not convert into muscle. Body burns fat, builds muscle with the help of protein. We tear our muscles, protein rebuilds them. Protein never helps body convert fats.Btw, when I started weightlifting, my weight went from 58KG's to 63KG's I'm rather sure my body increases in weight. |

Easy, I drink milk, drink water, maybe I eat some fruits and salad. Because salad tastes so disgusting, I end up not feeling hungry anymore.
It's not usually, starving, it's more of .....a hunger pang. |

American Heart Association Comments On High Protein Diet As A Strategy For Weight Reduction Date: Friday, January 11 @ 15:27:11 MYT You may have heard of some groups promoting high protein diet as a "new" strategy for successful weight loss. Protein content of some of such diets can go up to 30-60% of total energy. Carbohydrate content in such diets is reduced to as low as 5%. Fat energy goes up to as much as 30-60%.They are also recommended as a better "alternative" to the conventional carbohydrate-based diet. Your patients and subjects must have asked you at some point about such diets. Please do not be misled by promotions of such high protein diets. Please stay with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and endorsed by the Nutrition Society of Malaysa of the food guide pyramid that you are already familiar with. Almost all health authorities in the world, the WHO and FAO are following the same guidelines. Below is the abstract of a recent article from the America Heart Association, commenting on this high protein diet. This article appreared in the journal Circulation 104(15): 1869-1874, 2001 and is an official statement from the AHA Science Advisory and Coordinating Committee of June 2001. You can read the full article in: http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/104/15/1869 High-protein diets have recently been proposed as a "new" strategy for successful weight loss. However, variations of these diets have been popular since the 1960s. High-protein diets typically offer wide latitude in protein food choices, are restrictive in other food choices (mainly carbohydrates), and provide structured eating plans. They also often promote misconceptions about carbohydrates, insulin resistance, ketosis, and fat burning as mechanisms of action for weight loss. Although these diets may not be harmful for most healthy people for a short period of time, there are no long-term scientific studies to support their overall efficacy and safety. These diets are generally associated with higher intakes of total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol because the protein is provided mainly by animal sources. In high-protein diets, weight loss is initially high due to fluid loss related to reduced carbohydrate intake, overall caloric restriction, and ketosis-induced appetite suppression. Beneficial effects on blood lipids and insulin resistance are due to the weight loss, not to the change in caloric composition. Promoters of high-protein diets promise successful results by encouraging high-protein food choices that are usually restricted in other diets, thus providing initial palatability, an attractive alternative to other weight-reduction diets that have not worked for a variety of reasons for most individuals. High-protein diets are not recommended because they restrict healthful foods that provide essential nutrients and do not provide the variety of foods needed to adequately meet nutritional needs. Individuals who follow these diets are therefore at risk for compromised vitamin and mineral intake, as well as potential cardiac, renal, bone, and liver abnormalities overall. |

Yeah, never be misled by ads.
You should know what works for you and what doesnt. Gaining mass or losing fat is never about a high protein or a low carb diet whatsoever. Going low on carbs will swing your insulin level and make you feel weak whilst simply going high on protein will lead you nowhere if not coupled with the proper exercise regiment (there still must be carbs in your diet!). It will be converted nonetheless into fat if it is not broken down. You feel hungry, down and put on 'invisible' poundage in the end. So in the end its all about balance and a healthy lifestyle. djjock (certified fitness trainer, sports performance nutritionist) www.egonutritions.com |

Cos taking anything else like meat before bedtime is asking for trouble since it only stays for 3 hours. After that, your muscles are literally leeching amino acids off each other, hence catabolism. I did that before, tuna before bed, i felt like shit in the morning. Trying cottage cheese now though, bloody expensive but it's perfect, like milk, it's slow absorbing and without the fat. But I'm still trying to figure out if the cost is worth it. We're talking about 8.50 plus for 2 servings. Crazy. |

I normally have my light meal at dinner time after my workout. I space out meals in the daytime so its not too bad. Essentially I eat two meals in the office. Workout place also near the office then I go home and have a light supper thing and don't eat anything after 9pm or so. No. No light dinner After your primer post workout shake, eat, eat, EAT a HUGE meal one hour after that. Some nutrition books might even go to the extent of saying that your post workout meal should comprise of half your total daily caloric intake, but i don't agree with it 100% because most of us train pretty late in the day. Can't find cottage cheese most times, and yeah its expensive. I can get natural curds from my local Indian lassi fella. Is milk curd ok? Its damn tasty when eaten with the lentils I must say. You have an anabolic window which lasts up to 2 hours post workout, take advantage of it. But within 15 mins after your workout, a liquid shake is recommended. |

QUOTE(LYFfan @ May 30 2006, 08:09 AM) Yeah I know. The trainer and my dietician told me that. I tried it for awhile but couldnt stick it. Sometimes I work out at lunchtime.Sometimes after work when I need to stay late. I normally eat at the gym after, nice cafe there serving good sandwiches etc and go home for proper dinner/supper. But tendency for me is that I can't eat after workout, dunno why, makes me feel weird.Usually after workout if I dont eat something heavy I have some nice fresh juice and a bar or something. Not anything heavy. Hey.... don't worry. I understand absolutely how you feel. But at the end of the day, if your main goal is growth, you have to force yourself to eat. Heck, on a mass gaining/bulking cycle, i literally FORCE myself to eat post workout. Like i said, a primer liquid shake within 15 mins and a pretty decent sized well balanced solid dinner with proper macro ratios within 1 hour after the primer shake. Trust me, it's worth it. IMO, you don't have to force yourself to eat other times, but post workout is a must. |

And a lot of pro bodybuilders take tons of milk during the bulking phase off season. Milk has a lot of calcium. No known side effects so far. Of course, going on a high protein diet without proper fluid intake is asking for trouble. |

No known side effects so far. Ok then, since I don't take supplements, what's your advice for the maximum number of eggs one can take in a day? With or without yolk for those of us trying to GAIN weight? Feels kind of wasteful to throw the lovely golden (& tastier than the eggwhite) hard-boiled yolks away.Of course, going on a high protein diet without proper fluid intake is asking for trouble. I recall once when I had more than 4 eggs in a day and I fell sick the very next day. 2 hard boiled eggs in the morning, eggs in my Roti Telur for lunch, and a fried egg for dinner..... Taking too much of anything is harmful.EDIT: To answer your question, yes it increases the risk. This post has been edited by socratesman: Jun 5 2006, 07:43 PM |

AFTER i buy it, i can do whatever i want with it. And i peel of the aluminium foil and smell it! You got 2 choices:-a)Bring it back home and wait to find out it's spoilt when you open it a few days alter and drive all the way back to the shop and exchange it b)Embarrass yourself a bit and sniff every pack so you save a LOT of trouble and petrol. I got pissed after several occurrences so i was like, fuk it, i don't give a shit if people are looking. |

QUOTE(Lurker @ Jun 13 2006, 03:06 AM) He's got a point. The average person not on a bodybuilding program only needs around 0.75g/ld of bodyweight or slightly less. Bodybuilders need the extra protein to repair muscle tissue. Normal people don't rally require much. |

QUOTE(Chester @ Jun 13 2006, 09:31 AM) Since maet is high in protein and got no carb, does this mean KFC wont make us fat if we only consume their chicken? Please advise. KFC will make you fat if take on a regular basis. The fat in the skin and the way its cooked, it's not the healthy polyunsaturated kind of fat. Look, at the end of the day, it's caloric output vs input which makes you gain or lose weight. But the difference is obvious where the majority of calories come from. |

Actually I think if you unseal the aluminium foil, it will go bad faster since it would have been exposed to the air, plus add that with the stuff from your nose when u sniff it...hahaha |

niaseng... you generation oprah people, buy 2 cartons of HL like some multi billion project like that.
anyway, if you buy HL from any sundry shop and you found out that the milk is spoilt after you went back home, do return it to the taukeh. he can exchange it with the distributor for a fresher one. my old man has a sundry shop in USJ. |

It's like 3.60 at Tesco. |

that's pretty cheap. i used to buy mine from jusco, cheapest they ever went was for rm4.20, though it's a lot cheaper when they come in twin packs.
i better start stocking up at Tesco instead. i once saw a bottle of flax seed oil the size of those cheap rm5 liquor in the fridge near where they put the whip cream going for rm40+. expensive sial. |
