may i know can i use xeon processor for home pc? coz my friend told me xeon is for server purpose. so, means i can only choose i5 or i7 if i want to use for home pc? and can anyone tell me how to see if the cpu is compatible with the mobo or not?
For Ivy Bridge (and also Haswell), the Xeon processors are literally i7 processors minus the IGP (integrated graphics processor). An example would be Xeon E3-1230 V2, which is very similar to Core i7 3770 (see link below), except that there is no IGP for the Xeon CPU. A good way to check whether the CPU is compatible with the mobo is to look for the specification from the mobo's website, and check out the "CPU compatibility list". They will list down all the CPUs that are compatible accordingly.http://ark.intel.com/compare/65719,65732
