Thank you for the reply, FluffyTee.

Ahhh, I see. How far is the better quality image of WMR as compared to Vive / Rift?

Noted on the laptop spec with GTX1070.

Hmm are u familiar with the term screen door effect(sde)?

For me, i use lenovo explorer.
The sde is barely noticible.. However the lens hyperfocus the center as well.. This would be problemic if yr ipd is to far from 6.3 cm. It also uses lcd screen hence u will see glow in dark games/app. Color is also abit washout(u wont notice this unless u tried samsung odyssey or other hmd.)

Vive sde is noticible. Its line playing while wearing a beehive protective helmet. There is also more noticible god rays. But both of these are always forgotten by the player once the game starts.

Tracking in wmr is really bad but usable.. I have to constantly remind myself to keep my hands infront like a t-rex. Otherwise it will be reminded for me when my hands fly out 2 meters away, thus giving out my position in competitive games.
Vive hand tracking is well worked. And always forgot im in VR in the vive but not in wmr.

Have u tried vr in any vr arcade?

Hi there guys. How are you? I'm into photographs and video productions and is planning to venture into 360 videos/photos via HMD. I'm hoping to obtain some suggestions from experts in the field for the HMD and laptop.

The HMD will mostly be used for viewing and experiencing immersive 360 high quality videos and photographs. Additionally, I would also like to tryout some VR games particularly Beat Saber.

My current budget is around 8k - 10k and I'm considering to get the HTC vive + Alienware 15 GTX1070. Do you think its overkill for such usage? A high resolution and smooth play of video with HMD is my utmost priority.

Thank you!
*
Have you try FluffyTee play Beat Saber on WMR ? should be ok right?

For gaming laptop..yes WMR i think is the best option. You only need 1 USB port and no need power plug like Vive.
I prefer Oculus Rift but the Rift you gonna need 3 USB port. If fully 360 tracking need another 1 more shakehead.gif

But the Alienware 15 wif 1070 cost almost RM8k woo. If you choose Vive sure more than 10k sweat.gif

However only the HMD need USB 3.0, meaning the sensors you can plug into normal USB, meaning if not enough USB, a cheap USB hub is enough for the sensor to plug in.

WMR on beat saber works fine for average player. but i do hear it problematic at high difficulties. i tested the game out abit. its more lime a fun demo.

just a side note: WMR requires an excellent bluetooth adapter for the controller to work. otherwise an additional usb for bluetooth adapter and maybe extension cord is needed.
wierd why wmr diny put it as their requirement in their ads.

yup both my sensors are on normal USB 2.0, no problem tracking my constantly swinging arms playing beat saber expert mode. laugh.gif

Haven't really tried it on RPG or first person shooter games cuz too much time spent in virtual race car tongue.gif

Say, if really worry tracking will be affected and want to prioritise the sensor, we can always plug other USB device such mouse, keyboard etc into USB hub so that sensor can plug direct to motherboard's USB slot instead.

I'm bringing in TPCast Oculus Rift wireless adapter for corporate use. Hopefully the latency is not noticeable. Anyone have/tried it before?

I'm also looking for ways to adjust Oculus Mirror's FOV so that spectator's FOV (on the TV) can be wider.

Not really noticeable. 5-7ms mostly the latency. The claim that it is just 1ms is pretty bs tho lol.

I think both are ok and it boils down to which game u play.

Its easy to always go for the higher resolution one when just comparing hardware, but remember compare software too.

Remember to compare the games you intend to play, whether supports WMR or Oculus Rift. And the general support from the community when comes to troubleshooting etc.

Itchy to get my own Vive... Only around 2.5k now, but kinda scared if they release a new one. Not talking about Vive Pro but maybe they will release something better, Pro isn't good enough for an upgrade if you had a Vive. Not even worth the buy either it seems.

Maybe Oculus will release a new one soon? Sounds good to wait. I'll just be satisfied with PSVR for now.

Considering that the HTC Vive is out of stock at the htc website in the US, there's some likelihood there'll be a new one eventually. Or the Vive Pro prices will drop to the old US$799 (including accessories) from the current > US$1k price... biggrin.gif

I've had the HTC Vive for almost 2 years already, still enjoying it a lot. Highly recommended if you don't mind spending the money and already have a GTX1070 or faster.

Find at Shopee, pretty cheap Vive and Oculus there, and has good reviews. Legit like conversion rate of our ringgit and no extra cost like other sellers. 2k for Oculus, 2.5k for Vive. I wouldn't go with mixed reality hmd btw, there seems to be some issues with it regarding games, for hassle free get a Vive or Oculus, works without any issues.

Yeah the best thing to do is probably wait a little longer. Vive Pro isn't really for consumers.. shit cost 800usd, and does not even include the controllers or base stations which should be at 1.1k usd in total.

Mine is a 980ti, should be good. Maybe there is even a cheaper deal for vive, than I might pounce. Will see if I can last till a never one comes out, or Oculus v2.

Next gen Oculus have lots of new and advance feature such as the new display technology that they're calling the “Focal Surface Display" with realtime focus-adjustment.

This kind of tech won't be out so soon, earliest would probably be end 2019, and I don't expect the price to be at the same range as CV1.

As much i love my vive, watching HTC as a company losing money every year is scary. their poor customer service makes it worst.
On the better side, vive is very establish with alot of customization (soft ware and hardware accessories). tracking was said to be slightly better for the hands. partly because its inside out (in contrast to outside-in for rift, hence data from each camera needs to be sent to the PC and calculated).

Im not sure if the current absent of GST and SST would affect the vive or not. I know Vive cannot be directly bought from overseas due to the build in lithium batteries within the hand controllers.
only those with removable batteries can go through Malaysian customs (from direct online stores).

I tried vive before. Kinda able to see pixel and no too clear for me. Maybe is because using gtx 1060. I heard rift have better resolution while oddysey have the highest resolution for now. Anyone know where i can try oddysey in malaysia?.
