Looking for a headset for watching movies only, which can recommend? I tried some cheapo box before with my 1080p phone, doesnt like the screen door pixel effect.
*
I think the most stable option is still gear vr (or google day dream). The cardboard options just isnt as good without a proper hmd taking some of the load off the phone.

They include free extension USB cable 15ft for the 3rd sensor

ohh just found out the price on Oculus Rift increase already to $499..no more $399

Im actually using the vive. Read bout hassle of multiple usb 3 ports and smaller play space of rift. So decided to go wif vive that time.. Also rift wasnt that cheap yet.

Perhaps we can meet up in one of the metaverse later.

i don't have any problem setting up the 3rd sensor by using only usb 2.0 port..the 3 other cable are using usb 3..might be new update have been fix it
Vive lighthouse much better on large roomscale area but my play area is only 2m x 3m so rift is good enough

since u are using vive we cant meet up on facebook space officially right??
and if i using app Rec Room download from Oculus store can it work? or i have to install Rec Room steam version

*
actually some off the oculus apps are cross platform like recroom. if not u can always use steam. just add me in rec room.

but oculus has the advantage of also using steam vr if u prefer. i do hear some limitation as steam is afterall bias to vive but its not significant.
vive official app store is literally crap.

I'd recommend we purchasing games on steam as prices there may be cheaper than the oculus app. also with microsoft hmds using steamvr.. there will be a greater pool of players in steamvr

your rec room username is FluffyTee also? i've just try once only playing paintball..my username is PeeNutt btw

yup the oculus store is too expensive to us and is in US dollar. only play free games on it. err.. some games i TEST it first the skidrow version before i bought on Steam  biggrin.gif

ohh btw i just finished create my new avatar dedicated for my new interest  blush.gif

[attachmentid=9137896]
*
Where did u get that avatar?

U should try explore rec room more when u get a chance. Steam statistic shows rec room has the highest population of player, followed by arizona sunshine.

I do have problem finding reliable team mates on rec room sometimes.. Probably coz im a lil shy there.. But most of the senior players there are really friendly.

I normally TEST vr games too.. Will share with u my sources if u want.

Just to share my Project Cars 2 VR experience with my Pimax 4K HMD.

Video captured using my phone of the MirrorView on my main PC monitor. Always loved playing PCars but VR sure made the gameplay a lot more fun.
*
=_= disqualified...

just curious what gc are u using?

ha ha ha disqualified coz driving main2 looking hear and there. Just to show the VR experience looking around.

I'm using GB Auros GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce Extreme Edition. So far no drifting with the Pimax. Read that it use to have that problem, but newer firmware and the PiPlay software updates solved the problem. But there's some ghosting from time to time
*
yeah i heard drifting was an issue with most hmd without someform of external tracking. pimax was notorious of that esp when ur keyboard/ controller remain in the same position.
ghost seems to plaque high res hmd. i guess we cant have everything.

i was wondering what gc u were using to keep up with that much pixels.
u mention u choose pimax mainly to watch 360 content. do u use any 360 cameras atm?

haha yup its not easy to use the touch controller to draw since using the trigger button is like using a gun to create a painting  biggrin.gif  + have to wipe my sweat on the eye area every 15 min..but the result & experience were totally awesome

will try create finish artwork with Google Tilt Brush after this..it hav more brushes and effect but doesn't have layer function so for me it will be more challenging

btw just now at Oculus Connect Facebook announced the Oculus Go the standalone mobile headset:

no details specs yet and how long the battery last but it will comparable with samsung gear vr.
the resolution is higher than the rift 2560x1440 with a glare reduce lenses.
*
hey i have a friend who wants to get a vive. but with the recent pricr drop, considering the rift instead. how well does the rift's tracking perform? i heard rumors that it cant track fast hand movements.

woaa how fast his hand speed biggrin.gif .. currently dont have much problem playing fast shooter games like Robo Recall or SUPERHOT VR..but sometimes i noticed some jitter but doesn't effect that much on gameplay..but usually if the pc is fresh from restart should be run perfectly.

where his plan to buy the rift? better bundle with the 3rd sensor together to get perfect room scale and can save alot on shipping n tax..2 sensor still can work but might face more jiiter n jumpy from time to time
*
Yeah we read bout some ppl getting away with 2 senso for room scale by positioning them opposite each other. Not sure how reliable.

Some games require quick maneuveres. Eg rec room jumbotron, players will dual wield guns and throw one up mid air to reload the other gun on hand.

So far only seens vive players doing it smoothly. But not sure if thats coincidental.
Its also commented in soem forums, vive has more efficient tracking but not very specific bout it.

He s planning to get it direct from amazon shipment. Total 2.6k with third sensor and shipment.

yup i test with 2 sensor before i attach the 3rd sensor.. still usable and you just turn around 360 occasionally

but actually if got extra money i prefer your friend buy the extra touch controller for additional $40 instead the sensor only because that the touch controller have the extra sensor also

i dont know how long this controller will last since few times hit the wall already  biggrin.gif
and actually few people including me got issue with the finger sensor..after a month my virtual thumb doesn't move when u make thumbsup gesture.
but its a minor issue only and with a fix on the config file i push the sensor sensitivity more now works again

so for an extra $40 is a great bargain compare to Vive $100 per unit tongue.gif
*
Thanks for the advise. Was about to ask bout any major issues with rift too. Vive controllers are notorious with touch pad defect and/or squeeky controller after short use.. Bout 50% of the vive controllers are reported defective and even with warranty service may only solve the problem temporarily

Any major issue with rift on ur side?

Hey! One of my controller is squeky now. Just curious to what extend did u blow ur touch?
Also how does the rift work out so far for u?

Hi guys, do you think getting 2nd hand worth now? Or i should go for new set?
*
I don think there will be cheap 2nd hand atm. The price of vr headsets have dived to nearly 30-40% compared to last year.
Also there will be issue of lens scratches and controller scars...
Plus hygene is also an issue.
But i guess depends how tight of a budget u have.
U could get a windows MR for 1.5k wif controllers.

I was looking at oculus rift new set, which people is selling at around rm2300 now, however it seem Vive has more content, popularity and bigger fun experience, just the price is really turn off.
*
Oculus has access to steamVR store aswell. It can access most of the apps.
But u must know Oculus rift is only 180 degree tracking unless u purchase the additional 3rd sensor. Wiring may be an issue as each camera needs to be connected to ur gaming rig via USB 3.0. Also not that Oculus runs a close system. They can kind of remotely disable ur oculus rift.

Vive on the otherhand is wireless except for the headset. but price is expensive(if im not wrong, its due to the lithium batteries in the controllers). Also note that vive has issues wif their defective controllers(but DIY repairable).

There are also the Microsoft MR headset and PS VR to consider.
My personal opinion, get either the Vive, Oculus Rift WITH 3rd sensor.
If ur on a tight budget, then u can consider windows MR hmds.

Experience in VR is incomparable to anything atm. I have the Vive and love it.

Any place should i be looking for in local? or i just buy from oversea, will the tax heavy on this?
*
Atm the only official local VR headsets are PS VR (and gear VR)
i would recommend ordering one from amazon and pay the tax. Ordering from lazada or 11street would be the same but with the higher price and no warranty. The seller basically buys from amazon and resell it to us for a higher price

Do you know roughly how much tax for device like this?
*
I was told amazon now quotes the complete price at the end including the neccesary malaysian tax. It will be displayed before finalizing payment.

Which hmd r u intending to get?

So have you bought it bro?

last time i bought Oculus Rift with additional sensor was around RM2.4k from Amazon. Opp forgot not directly from amazon..it was through Uskoop e-concierge service..it was way cheaper compare direct from amazon..unfortunately that service was shutdown already sad.gif
.. But the Rift almost 10 month still working great no problem at all.
*
2.4k is a good deal. I think amazon would cost 2.7k myr wif 3rd sensor.
more so with steam support improving..

i think steamvr hardware survey shows oculus the majority now in Steam.

That is base on who participate the survey. Sale numbers should be the one you should look at.
*
Obviously its just a reference.. But the numbers was not as such previously. Also real numbers of rift may be higher as not all oculus rift users use steam.
The rise in rift users after its drop in price and not to far apart in performance from vive.
Htc vive poor customer service may also affect this.

So which hmd r u using?

Vive also has their own ecosystem as well just like Rift. But i'm pretty sure most uses Steam ecosystem rather than Rift or Viveport.
I'm not using either of them personally. But I've used both for an extended amount of time by just borrowing someone's for a few months.
Either Vive or Oculus is a fine pick anyway.
*
Im using the vive and lenovo explorer.
the Viveport is kind of a dead store. very limited choice and steam sells the same game cheaper too and can be shared with other devices like rift and wmr. i can say almost 90% vive users dont use viveport.
And SteamVR primary supports Vive for all VR apps. Rift and WMR support are optional for developers.
So its safe to say.. SteamVR = the ecosystem of vive.
the oculus rift store has more VR games than steam atm. although numbers are getting closer. some of us vive user use this addon called Revive to play oculus games.
WMR echosystem is <50? which majority already found on steam. Unlike Viveport which is optional to run, Microsoft WMR forces users to start in WMR app everytime headset is plugged in.
