Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone ever made. It's one of the best smartphones ever made, and with a couple of minor tweaks (particularly to the camera), it could be the best smartphone ever produced.
Still, there's really not much to knock here. The hardware is elegant and smartly designed. The software is beautiful and useful. Google has cleaned up a lot of the bad, and replaced it with a serious amount of good. It's faster, smarter, and a lot more friendly than any of its predecessors. Ice Cream Sandwich easily gives iOS and Windows Phone a run for their money, and in many ways, it's a superior operating system than either of them. If there's a bone to pick, perhaps it's with the size, which could be off-putting to some, or the fact that right now the only carrier you can definitely get the phone on in the US will be Verizon. But those are minor blips on the radar, not show stoppers.
Since day one, I've been waiting for an Android device that lived up to the promise of such a powerful OS. I think I can stop waiting now. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is so important again because it's the only time Google gets to dictate everything - the hardware, the software, and update timing. There's also the element of freedom, with unlockable hardware out of the box. I find myself wishing that Google had begun its adventure sticking it to the carriers with pentaband WCDMA support like this phone finally has, as that would've been much more successful than the practice of releasing a few different Nexus variants with different bands.
As far as Ice Cream Sandwich is concerned, it really is Android perfected. Everything is smoother, faster and nearly all of our issues with the OS have been addressed. ICS brings Android into 2012 and gives Google a great platform to begin to introduce new features going forward. Android is now very close to UI performance parity with iOS, which eliminates a major tradeoff you had to make in the past. If you were hoping for ICS to be iOS with a Google logo on it, you'll be sorely disappointed. However if you're a fan of Android and just wished it were smoother and more polished, Ice Cream Sandwich is what you've been waiting for. Full review here.

If you're contemplating on buying AP set, jpaq has some advice for you to consider.
QUOTE(jpaq @ Mar 14 2012, 04:38 PM)
It's all a matter of luck, bro. Many people who have bought an AP unit has had no problems whatsoever. However, there are some who have experienced faulty units before as well. To be clear, I myself rather not buy an AP unit.
But do ask the seller about his one-to-one exchange policy. If he says if there is any problem within 7 days, and a one-to-one exchange is allowed within that period, then it is pretty fair for an AP unit. But then, ask him further, if the 2nd unit is also found to be faulty, then what would be his policy. Then consider what he tells you. If you find it acceptable, go ahead and buy it and have fun. Oh, and do get the name of the guy who attends to you, for future reference.
However, do be meticulous with your checking of the unit. When at the shop, check as many things on the phone as you can, at the bare minimum, check for any scratches, dents, cracks and chips. Check for any colour peeling or dis-colouration of every physical part of the phone that you can see, including the logos. Also check the battery cover for any breakage in the clips. Another phone shop seller once told me that he got in a unit from his supplier where one or more of the battery cover clip(s) was/were broken.
Do switch the phone on and inspect with your naked eye for any abnormality in the display. Also see whether the display responds ok with your touches. Then slip in your SIM card and make a few calls. Check for any abnormality in the sound coming out from the earpiece. I have had an earpiece problem before. Not common, but it happened to me. Then ask whomever you are calling whether you sound clear to them or not. Then ask that person to call you back to check again.
After all that, when you get home, do play the heck out of your phone. Go google for apps which let your check for any defects in the display, like dead pixels, etc. Plug in a set of earphones (your fav or the in-box ones) and test. Play some songs through the earphones as well as through the speaker. Listen for any crackling sounds or other abnormality. Make calls, send SMSes, emails, etc. Plug it into your computer to see whether everything is working as it should be. Use the phone fully and even stress the phone if you can (but I don't mean physically!!!).
If everything works out ok, great! If not, go back immediately to the seller. Be firm (but not rude) with the seller when conveying to him your problem(s). If he had promised a one-to-one exchange earlier and you are within the time given, insist on that. I have to add that many sellers would rather not have to do a one-to-one exchange if they can help it. It means that they would have one less phone to sell. But insist on it if he has given you his word. And if he tells you that there is currently no stock to exchange for you at the moment, insist that a new unit should be given to you no longer than in 2 weeks time. Otherwise, ask for your hard earned money back and get the phone from somewhere else.
Honestly, I have not dealt with this directd ever before. From the forums, some say he is ok but could be perceived as a little stuck up. Ignore all this when your are dealing with him. Just be professional and expect professionalism from him as well. Keep it strictly business.
All the best.

For those who want to check Yakju or non-Yakju build on Galaxy Nexus:
1. Download "Android System Info" from market. 2. Launch it 3. Go to System tab 4. Under it, click to expand Buildinfo 5. See Product
However it is possible to flash non-yakju build back to stock Google's firmware, yakju. vernon91 has written a guide on how to flash yakjuxw ICS to Jelly Bean

Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time.
It tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform, or your favorite team's score while they’re playing. And the best part? All of this happens automatically. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them.
However it seems a fair few people are having issues configuring Google Now to give them the smooth female voice, images in the search content and the ability to send texts, set alarms etc.
Follow this tutorial and you should be sorted in no time.

Its a SGX540, the same one in the Nexus S, but significantly higher clocked, running at 384mhz.
QUOTE
Iit's only the GPU that isn't as fast (the CPU is as fast as anything on the market right now, and faster than the iPhone). This will be the third fastest GPU on the market, behind the PowerVR SGX543 of the iPhone, and the Mali-400 of the Samsung Galaxy S2. For most tasks, of course, there will be tons of horsepower available for things like hardware acceleration of the OS, basic processing tasks, etc. These are not generally a challenge to most GPUs. The real question is, how will it handle games or apps like Google Earth or other 3D-intensive apps?
Think about this: when game developers release a game for the PC, do they optimize it so that it will only run on the brand new, top-of-the-line, $600 graphics card? Of course not. They wouldn't sell many copies, would they? Expect the same here. The PowerVR SGX540 of the Nexus is a potent GPU, one of the fastest on the market. Not being the fastest shouldn't be a concern. From Android Forums
Also, if you didn't notice already, games that are actually fun don't rely on polygon counts to sell the game, ie. cut the rope, plant vs zombie, coin drop, etc etc. If the iPhone 4 with SGX535, a lower end GPU than Nexus S, can have great game titles, I don't see how the G Nexus can't.
Food for thought, if the G Nexus can already play 95% of the games in the market (the other 5% being Tegra3 exclusives ), what significance does it make that the GPU scored lower in benchmarks?

If you feel that your phone's speaker volume is too low, try Volume+ to boost the volume.
and install Equalizer to boost volume during videos.
As for quality:

Only had a brief listen on mine using some Yuin PK2s that I have.
I've come from an Xperia Arc, and before that I did have a SGS2 for a while.
I've not had enough time to make a definitive view but at this stage, the Nexus sounds more open than the Arc (which had a warm veil to the sound imo) and seems to be able to drive the Yuin's much better than the SGS2 - my ears will give up before I reach max volume this time around.
To my ears, at this stage, it offers a pretty well balanced sound - plenty of detail resolved without sounding overly harsh on the tracks I have tried. The mids certainly sound better than the previous 2 phones mentioned from my recollection.
Not had a play with any equaliser settings yet as I prefer listening without tweaking these in any way if possible.
Reckon it has potential - and its certainly good enough for the amount of listening I do. From WhiteHartMart @ XDA Developers

I have compared the Nexus to the GS2.
1. Don't worry it blows the GS2 out the water. Highs are high, lows are low. Tested with .flac on same settings via power amp.
2. Its the best sound quality I have ever heard from .flac on a mobile phone. I never owned a Nexus1.
3. Speaker is very low. Not as loud as cm7 on GS2 but hey the quality is OK.
4. Gone are the days of the Bluetooth audio crackle via A2DP. It has very good quality via A2DP even compared to GS2 CM7.
If you are interested I tested the phones with some Astro A40's. Not the best for an audiophile but suitable for the test I guess. From NatTheCat @ XDA Developers

Facebook?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Facebook won't sync with Nexus Devices because Google and Facebook had a little spat back when 2.3 was released. Whereby Facebook refused to use the standard contact sync API and instead used the one that Google had initially concocted from scratch for them. Then, when Google deprecated that API, Facebook didn’t feel like changing their code, so no more sync.
So 3rd party have developed and an app to enable Facebook sync, try HaxSync. Alternatively, you can flash ROMs that has Facebook sync built-in / fixed, if you have root access.

Google+ application settings on an Android phone will automatically upload new photos and videos to a Google+ album. There's no need to panic, though, as the photos and the album itself will remain private until you sign into Google+ and specify which images you want to share with select circles
To disable automatic upload from the Google+ Android app, select "Settings" within the "Menu" screen and uncheck "Instant Upload." Now you have control of which mobile photos make it to your private Google+ album.
The Instant Upload settings allows for further customization, including uploading all existing photos on your phone, uploading only when connected to a WiFi network (good for those with capped data plans), and uploading only when the phone is charging.
If you've ever had or used Picasa, there is a chance you've got an album there that Google is picking up and syncing.
Click on the "My Photos" tab, click on the offending album, click on the "actions" tab, and choose "delete album".
To delete the synced photos from Gallery
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google +
Then press the "Clear data" button.
Now when you go back to the gallery the instant upload and any photos linked in Picasa will be gone.
You should also disable the syncing before doing this if you don't want them to come back again.

Multitasking?

QUOTE(mark @ Mar 14 2012, 08:52 PM)
There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding running apps, multitasking, background tasks and such.
When you launch an Android app, the task is active/running. You use the app, play with the app, etc.
When you exit back to the home screen (or go to a different app), the app is stopped. This means that the app is frozen and will not run/take up battery/etc. It also means the Android OS can freely kill that task if the Android OS needs more memory for other things (i.e. you opened up a really heavy game, you haven't gone back to that app in a while, etc).
So how does multitasking work? How does your app check for email in the background? This is done by something called services. Services run in the background, you don't really see it anywhere on your screen. Even when you quit your app, it still has a service running in the background. It checks your mail even if you're not in the app, it checks for new messages when you're not in the app. If you're busy downloading something using your browser, and you go to a different app, your download still continues, because the browser is running it's own download service in the background.
An example to this would be WhatsApp. If you don't open the app, how does it check for new messages for you? It runs the WhatsApp background service to check for messages for you. You don't have to open the app to keep checking for new messages, it already runs by itself in the background. The Android OS takes care of what services to run, kill, etc automatically for you. That's why if you use a manual task killer (you shouldn't, btw), after a few minutes you'll notice the WhatsApp service running again.
This, of course, does not apply to ALL apps. It depends on whether the app developer has made such a feature available or not. Let's take Draw Something as another example. It doesn't have a background service, therefore it doesn't notify you if you have new drawings to guess.
tl;dr, to answer your question, you don't have to open viber/yahoo/gmail/gtalk to get notifications. The notification part of these apps are running in the background and are checking for new messages for you.
Also, regarding the ICS tasks button, all the tasks listed there are "frozen" apps... the apps themselves aren't running and aren't taking any CPU resources.
For better understanding, you can also read up on the Android Activity Lifecycle, but it's more technical and more for programmers: Android Activity Lifecycle

Don't worry, it is perfectly normal if you feel that your phone is heating up around the camera area, especially when you are using your phone, even if its just minor activities. (you don't know what's going on in the background).
After all, its a 1.2Ghz dual core CPU running underneath, the heat has to dissipates somehow. Just make sure that its not something crazy like above 55C, anything below 50 should be fine. It is advisable to avoid using the phone when charging.
You can install battery monitoring app to monitor the temperature if you are worried about it.

Rubin is explaining what makes a “Nexus” phone, as opposed to any old Android phone. Basically, Google gets deeply involved in the design, working with the hardware maker and the chipmakers. Rubin notes there are over a million lines of code in Android.
“So much work goes into producing the UI and the changes that you make, and then typically what happens is that the OEM’s put their skins on it and put their own touch. Does it bother you that so much work goes into it and in the end, a lot of consumers don’t interact with the UI as you intended it?”
Well, it would bother me more if we didn’t have programs like the Nexus program. The idea behind the Nexus device is to do exactly that – to give consumers an option to use the baseline work that we do if they choose…the philosophy of Android, the idea that partners can customize Android if they want to, is really important to making Android successful. By Matias Duarte, User Experience Designer of Android
QUOTE
There are Android phones (Nexus). And there are Sense phones (HTC). And there are Philblur Motorola phones. And there are TouchWiz phones. And so on and so forth.
With the Nexus line, Google has its flagships, its models of how its operating system should work. The broader world of Android is more like MS-DOS—the original "weak OS." Every version of the software is retailored and rebranded by its manufacturer. Even some software has to be rewritten to conform to different machines and their varied specs. But what you get is accelerated development of hardware and broad interoperability between machines, which benefits both users and developers.
Why does this distinction matter?
If you're an Android user, you may simply have to accept that you didn't buy an Android device running Google software; you bought a device from Samsung, Motorola or Amazon running Samsung, Motorola or Amazon software. Unless you have a Nexus, Google's more or less invisible on your device. Finally, you're never going to be able to just pull a brand-new software update out of the cloud and stick it on your machine. Not unless you're up for a little hacking. From Arstechnica
QUOTE
There is on one specific reason why I want the Galaxy Nexus so bad. It's everything brought together in a single device, all of the gripes and disappointment in other, non-Nexus handsets that I've had over the past two years and the thought of using Android specifically how Google envisions it. Not everyone will agree, not will everyone understand. But we all have our reasons for the preferences we have, and a run-of-the-mill Android phone just doesn't cut it for me anymore. From PhoneDog
QUOTE
But that is the philosophy of Android, a philosophy that had eluded me until now. To Google, Android is an operating system. To companies like HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, Android is the building-blocks with which they will build their own unique devices.
Google makes Android phones. Apple makes iOS phones. HTC makes Sense phones. Samsung makes TouchWiz phones. Motorola makes MotoBlur phones.
For those of you who don't know, Nexus is essentially Google's iPhone. They have full control over the hardware and software, come out with a new Nexus every year or so, and update all recent-ish Nexus phones with the latest version of Android as soon as possible. By LifeHacker

In this post, I’ll be talking about the rooting process of an Android device as far as my best knowledge allows me to. Regarding ‘root’ itself, please consult the many definitions around the internet. In short, it is a special permission granted to a user to perform low level operations on a system (like backing up your Angry Birds game data, or changing the boot animation). 'Rooting' is the process of obtaining the means to grant this permission.
Think of it like the Matrix: Jailbreaking is comparable to what Morpheus could do. He could bend the rules of the system to overcome certain restrictions, but was still bound to its rules. Rooting is what Neo could do. Not only could he bend the rules, he could completely break them.

What it is, is a full backup of partitions on your device's NAND flash (NAND stands for NOT AND, a type of electronic logic gate -- it's like the hard drive of your Android device) storage. Think of it as a snapshot of the current running system, and it can be used to restore that that point at any time. Both user data and system files are backed up, and it's a far cry from what we think of when talking about a traditional backup from other software.

actually i feel sad and happy at the same time... i am happy because the so-called "lower grade" s2, we as NEXUS... are alive to v23... and heck, we got one amazing freaking phone.
I feel sad because, it marks a near end of our Nexus' life. One by one getting jump ship to s4, or nexus4, htc one, butterfly, or any fonepad there is. but i wont jump until something amazing. And i am expecting something from the Nexus 5 or maybe the Phone X? Sometimes I felt lonely... ppl around me talking about lumia 920 camera, speed demon s4, or the amazing screen from sony bravia engine.
After all, its just a phone. when it comes to speed... regardless of operating speed or accessing app speed. we are top notch. After living awhile with those awesome custom rom... I have suddenly become very rely on those feature...namely, the navring, the pgm, transparent nav and statusbar. and some additional apps like glovebox, keep, chronus clock, and all this to make sure my screen are as clean and yet i access my apps in ALMOST INSTANT! I hate comparing... and i know we shouldnt. but i am sorry to say that... iPhone definitely wont be able to fire up apps as fast as i am.
My last word, I hope that this thread can keep on going... until 4.3 were out... and we get more heat here... then we enjoy our device... UNTIL nexus.. and hopefully we all jumpship together.. : )
CHEERS to all NEXUS user. we have made a good choice in the beginning.

In my situation, most friends switched to Android/iPhone in the past 12 months. Those who changed earlier went for S2 or Single Core Samsung/HTC. Those who changed more recently all went for Note 2 and S3. These phones are still quite capable. I think most of them will get stucked with S3, won't go higher for at least another 12 months. Who knows?
After another 12 months, I'll be working or continuing my master. Things may be different from what I thought.
Anyway, it's just to say... Not everyone will upgrade. At least some of us here still find GNex very capable. Maybe can't catch up in Graphic and Camera performance but UI smoothness, it's hell a lot better than all the phones from same generation.
Well... Unless you got a deep pocket or you got a lot of free time, you can switch phone whenever you like.
What I mean "you got a lot of free time" means you can monitor the sales thread and look for those who is selling their newest smartphone (don't like or wanna try another flagship- eg: Bought S4, used for 2 weeks, tried HTC One, find HTC One better, Sell S4 buy HTC One), you can just take their unit and keep on trading. Maybe just 2k++ at the beginning. But you can only do so with a spare phone. Monitor market price and sell it out before it starts dropping. This takes a lot of time but it entitles you to play phone-hopping without losing money. Some ppl can even earn a little by doing so. Like a trader, but don't trade to earn a lot. Spending time in the second hand market, a lot of time.
Sometimes you can get a phone and sell it out the next second for 50 to 100 higher. Sometimes you miss the time to let out and probably lose 50 to 100. Really takes a lot of time. No time to do so and no own car for COD else it should be enjoyable to have this kind of hobby

Totally agree with what you say, phone-hopping hobby is not actually so fun for those with budget. and i admit that for me such a geek, nexus is the most raw phone i've ever had. I own the iphone 3gs, the s2, and play a lot of s3... and i can say that nexus is DAMN RAW. you cook it your own style, and you taste it your own way. Like i said just now, my homescreen as clean as only a round analog clock. but yet, i access whatever popular apps (browser, fb,insta, gallery, camera, calculator, whatsapp, guitar tuning apps) in just a matter of SECOND. because its my own way.
Anyway, i understand that not all be able to jump ship. but i really expect a lot from nexus 5 and i am looking forward to change if my budget allow. maybe by that time. i will ROOT+custom rom to the most stable extend on my nexus, and sell to my local colleague for maybe rm400-rm600? hahaha...

I probably won't sell it. Just let my bro have it or something. Next time I may start trading if I got the time
Btw, the homescreen thing, actually can be done by all phones. Just whether they wanted to do it. If you go for popular devices, they'll have just as much ROM as a Nexus can have. They have them based on AOSP and some based on manufacturer's ROM. However, most of the users chose to stay with stock. It's their choice, don't blame the phone
Nexus is just easier, and meant to be flashed

ahhahaa.. "meant to be flashed" ... like its born to be torture and abuse....
There are ppl that use it fully stock without unlocking bootloader. They don't need it. We need it
Lot of features offered in custom ROM I can't live without. Ask me going back to stock ROM, I'll suffer for quite a long period of time.
Anyway, yesterday installed Liquid Smooth + AK 243SKL. Overall very fast, offer all the feature i need. and one thing is that... there is some wakelock. my phone not idle since last night... must be something fishy... gonna observe awhile first... i did a clean flash over my previous atom. wipe system, data, cache, dalvik....
guys... anyone can share his setting for PGM on slide2wake? i still cant get a good value... putting the phone in my pocket still often trigger it open. and only when i feel the heat.. then i realize...
maybe there is some magical value there to set?? lol

so my sliding position is bottom of the screen u can also play with it a bit
if u wanna know the location, u can go Developer Options > Enable Pointer Location then u can see the x and y
Mine
Never trigger my phone in my pocket with this setting.
Wake: Swipe bottom up from center Sleep: Swype right to left on the navbar. But I got my Recents button Longpress as power. Normally use that one instead of PGM to sleep.

threshold & timeout is the key to keeping it sleeping in the pocket. try making a very impossible straight line threshold and a lower time out. and i also like to make the 'drawn line' from end to end as pocket can't make a full straight line.
great! V23 now. I guess android 4.3 will be last version I stay with gnex. really hope the next phone is nexus 5. 3xxx mAh, snapdragon 800, 2GB, full HD and 13mp or greater camera.

My dream nexus I would want a physical camera button, awesome camera, 32GB.
according to google staff, camera will be awesome this time 32gb would still be a luxury i guess *since they are pushing pple to use their cloud service *since they can store our stuff and know what we like and interested in *since it will benefit carriers with data plans *since it will cut costs
physical camera button?? not going to happen.. *phone design had been sidelined since nexus s> gnex reduction of hwbuttons, just power and vol keys *buttons spoils easily *apple is patenting back/side touch screen for their products, meaning they dun nid physical buttons and the "buttons/touchscreen" can change functions on the fly
just wish better processor, screen, more ram, battery, optimisation, camera, design, speaker louder, better mic, more sensors, separate wifi chip!!!, and this time no USB port!, full utilization of pogo pins
imagine pogo pins snap on by magnets to connect power and data usb? imagine faster transfer rates too
and lastly a nicer case and stronger screen N4 case was nice but cracks

make sense, since already move to on screen button, dedicated camera button added are low possibility, but will be great if can have it.
since they pushing cloud, meant wireless. wired related included pogo might against their idea. the idea of pogo is for data and charging but now divided by (1) Qi Wireless Charging standard (getting hot) and (2) Cloud (wireless data transfer, Google don't care either you use WiFi or Data Plan)
just my personal prediction, pogo might hardly happen next but I still wish to have it. I guess is either only 1, Google to choose Qi Wireless Charging or Pogo pins? microUSB port will never be killed.
anyone try bigfoot milestone with AK? how's the performance?
I'm using this combo.
Bugs found: 1) 2G Toggle still won't stay after reboot. Apply the build.prop fix. 2) Transparency settings not stable too. Sometimes it follow setting sometimes it follow random value.

Dedicated camera button is normally a two step button. Half press for focus and full press for shutter.
It still makes sense if it's included. This button is like something optional. It's not like they will be removing the on screen shutter button pun. haha

need to pull battery and start again.
Kernel, trickstermod settings? The condition that you're having is called sleep of death.
For the nexus 8, no way it can be so square with 1080p resolution. That in the pic definitely not wide screen
from the drawing already know is not professional finish. what you expert for? never see any rumor about nexus 8 before but second gen nexus 7, then yes.
if u want on ur nave bar (priority base needs root) then power toggles, battery info etc will do.
but if u want to replace ur battery in the top right with percentage then u need to flash through cwm or manually edit the build prom. which i don' recommend (since u are asking this sort of question )

OOOOORRRRRRRR u can just flash a custom rom
Sounds wrong...
Someone put a clock on their navbar? Besides in Tablet UI. Lol...
Since he's using stock deodexed, he should really just go for custom ROM. Since his GNex's cherry is popped

magic fluids live wallpaper (u can set levels of awesomeness) and it drains lesser than other Lwapaper. (setting i recommend is gamma correction +9 or max, contrast -4 r/g and +2 Blue; with amoled, it looks way better than the screen shot
power toggles for the app drawer to put 7 icons in a tight space (unlike normal base drawer)
apex launcher 8x10, no base drawer, tablet ui mode.
minimalistic text - battery default, mod colour values, added battery temp at end.
make your clock widget (pirate arr!)- look for grr template. then mod position to centre, add weather and temp, repositionbars. added memory percentage. mod colours.

I'm now using Bigfoot.
Nice ROM with all features you can think of! Erm.. Except Halo (not implemented yet). Erm... Not sure what else. Got most of the features d.
Any recommendations for a lite clean fast smooth rom? preferably easily reversible by my nandroid image in case i dont like it
narndroid should not have problems unless md5 error cuz of backup error

Really? Never try. But I know iPhone one is smoother when scrolling. Android version is not fully smooth even with Note 2. Nexus 4 is also a little laggy when scrolling, not 100% smooth.

Lite? Slim bean. Nothing is lighter than Slim Bean.
Nandroid will do the job in any situation except when you move from 4.1 to 4.2 then from 4.2 back to 4.1 since the file system is a little different.

Troll??
You're saying iPhone 5 is outdated. But it's still the newest in line as a phone with iOS. How can it be outdated? It compares against nothing
Btw, the chipset in iPhone 5 is a very very good one. Custom designed, hand-drawn by Apple, nothing extra. Just right what it takes to be an efficient and high performance chipset.

take it easy their camera really very nice , and the efficient power, it can really standby for a long time u use less use it.
one thing for sure that feel wasted is , we cant wash photo through the photo kiosk at mall , coz iphone dont support bluetooth transfer pic true situation , not to make up debates between iphone and android.
"Wash" photo. Now ppl don't "wash". "Wash" is for film. But older generation still use this term.
iPhone mah... is like that one laaaaa
The debate goes on and on, never ending~~
Maybe next time can support... printing from Dropbox link? Something like that
Or NFC + WiFi direct. Who knows??

The chipset is the most awesome part of iPhone 5.
Just google and see how awesome it is.
Nowadays chipset is normally designed using software. Like mix-and-match, layout using software. But Apple is using its semicond department to create a chipset with hand-drawn design. That means only what's needed is inside the chipset. Nothing extra.
Just like programming. You use software that "Helps" you to do programming, it tends to add in extra codings to ensure that the code works. But it takes extra steps.
Just my understanding
Another thing is... It's just dual core but some of the benchmark puts it above many quad core rivals. Awesomeeeee
i may be suffering severe brainfart but going to AOKP milestone from my stock 4.2.2 will effectively be a factory reset right? IE all apps and widgets and settings will be gone?

TIBU the best way?
No but yes.
No if you go the dirty way but not recommended.
Yes if you go clean. Titanium Backup normally we call it TiBa. TiBa all user apps and some system data. I say some system data because you should backup things like System Storage. This contains the android ID for your phone. Recommended to backup as apps like Line recognize this to identify your account. Changing this means you'll lose your data for apps that identifies users based on android ID. Besides that, you can also backup Call Log, Bookmarks, Accounts, Alarms etc. You don't have to backup every System Apps as it's not recommended to restore system apps. Often causes Force Close.

When i go hold it up for the first time, my goodness..
Nokia easily pawn that Samsung Activ ( is it the correct name i wonder)
Sony is really improving a lot.. but i just don't like the screen when i set the brightness to 30-40%..
idk but from my two encounters with Xperia TX and S running latest stuff, the lag is quite obvious. Even compared to my Galaxy S on Gingerbread...I can't see the butter effect. Have not touched the bleeding edge ZZZZsssss
Of course I have an I-device and WP7.5 device so I'm well versed in smoothness lol.
to be honest TWui is not really bad at all, just haters gonna hate.

nokia wants to enter india smartphone market (making fat craps at low res displays and pressure touch screens) way to go nokia, waste earth resources making crap. they should reintroduce the 3310, way durable and faster than sluggish phones.
sony arr, operating at loss to gain an edge currently (lets see how long they can last) but good thing is that at least they listen to market demand (unlike gay lord samsung) their screens nvr really put <50% cuz test phone in shop soo damm bright ardy. once i went to gamma correction 10 pure high colours contrast, others looks dull

I totally agree on this, used before Lumia 800 really 99% zero lag..

Do you know that Nokia is still at top of mobile phone sales figure because of those "crap" they made? At lowest ensend, no one compete against Nokia. Giving them millions units sold each year. I think Nokia is top or runner up for year 2012. I means figure. Get what I mean? BTW, I won't deny the fact that Nokia got one of the best in class build quality. Too bad they went with WP not Android.

yeah, but what i am saying is they make crap and get good $ cuz they sell alot. selling alot is the problem. cuz as far as i know making crap still uses rare resources and creates tons of pollution just by refining and making. then when the crap becomes crap, we have to deal with crap pollution.
if they still made 3310, it will last decades

Lumia running android..
gonna be 1 sluggish phone.. remb that we r running on a floating platform hence the ability to customise and the horrible lag if wp geared to run 1 core only and design by hardware, running android will be death.

oh yeah. 14 hours count down.... beside this, we can see the official count down from google too. just open the upcoming live stream video, hopefully by that time internet not lagging and got time to watch live from the link

Not everyone in the world can afford a smartphone. If they don't make those "crap", then probably 70% of a current mobile phone user won't even own a phone.

Z is quite big actually, bigger than S4 in terms of footprint (area) ZL is smaller in footprint but is almost 2mm thicker than S4. ZL has smaller bezel at top and bottom, also no HW keys at the bottom to take up all the space.
Still impressive anyway
But it's quite fun when comparing Z and ZL.
Z: 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm ZL: 131.6 x 69.3 x 9.8 mm
ZL is so much shorter and little narrower but is thicker. ZL's width is even narrower than S4, 0.5mm narrower. How thin is its bezel?
Oppo Find 5 is another 0.5mm narrower. How thin can a bezel be?

I flashed bigfoot. Using DiGi. No problem here.
Check out the Statusbar hide feature (I think is from AOKP). But I'm not using. Great concept but I'm used to how I use my phone. Haha...
yeah. gnex is an old model. same age like iphone 4.
on bigfoot + 243skl.. quite a nice combo.
will see how the battery perform. hehe. oh i just knew that we can backup our text message and call logs by using tiba. lol. before this, i just lost all my messages and call logs everytime i flash new rom

Kernel!!!!
My battery is draining fast after updating to Latest Bigfoot nightly + AK 246.
i have 2 SOD with 243 - first SOD happen in 4 hours time (some UV tweak) - second SOD happen after 90+ hours (less aggressive UV tweak compare to first SOD)
Now back to 242 - been up for 90+ hours (stock setting) - now being 120+ hours, with minor tweak, -15 for SR and lower the min freq to 230.......

i think u should.
there's one comment said that he used bigfoot + 243skl, his battery drain 12% in 8hours. and his gf nexus, using axiom + 242skl, drains 2% in 8hours. shit

sometimes after a long idle time, and then I wake it up, there's lag everywhere - scrolling home screen, popping up the keyboard, etc. only gone after more than 5-10 mins playing around

same for me on purity when i connect wifi, and after left it idle for some time. left it idle only launcher lag, sometimes with lock screen. wifi, whatsapp lag, swiftkey keep crashing. o.o mine goes off way shorter than urs tho
Btw, if you refer gsmarena, exynos version and snapdragon 600 version benchmark about the same.
Snapdragon 600 got extra chipset to handle some part of the processing to be on par with Exynos octa.
Seems like exynos octa is still the most powerful
Btw, now I know why Samsung got 4.2.2 running on their S4. Already got under table business with Google to release S4 running AOSP. Sure need support support google by having 4.2.2 running on their S4.
Samsung is good at business!
One phone, two OS, one by Google one by Samsung. See how user choose.
They can now capture both market.

its not really a Nexus with expandable memory per se....Any guarantees for 3 rounds of updates by Google? (sorry I didn't follow anything live).
No guarantee
Google gave few other devices AOSP before like the Motorola Xoom and Galaxy Tab 10.1 but not really fully updated by them. Factory image is also not provided on Google's site.

when that guy was saying Htc ONE & S4, i was hopping he pull out the One..
HTC One running AOSP..
No rumour for One. But we've heard rumour of S4. Right?
i'm facing this problem with Nexus now.. when i browse a file using ES Explorer/Root Explorer the file is there.. but when I connect it to PC and browse, i cannot find the file..
After reboot my phone only the file can be seen in PC.. any idea what happens?

It's not a problem actually. It's how MTP meant to work. Need reboot phone to see changes in files.
I'm not using MTP anymore. Now fast charge on 100% of the time.
why no ANDROID 4.3?? !! disappointing althou that SGS4 is on pure nexus experience.. but a device with home button is not a nexus phone IMHO.
Overall, this time IO they concentrate more onto developer and slightly forgot about user... but i believe GOOGLE did this for some reason... Boost the developer quantity and quality... good apps and software is yet to come .. SOON....
and i believe also 4.3 will come out soon too... but maybe just a minor update... like from 4.1 to 4.2

u shouldn't catagorized that s4 as a nexus device because it wast,
just a sammy phone running stock android
with this, android 4.3 should be announce with the new nexus phone around oct
what Google did this year was to focus on developer and enhancing service they are providing => good for us

good news for S4 user. enjoy same nexus treatment direct from google. touchwiz S4 hater gonna flash ASOP as soon as available. if this year end Nexus 5 not impress, S4 gonna be good alternative.
I use file expert (phone) + filezilla (pc) for FTP.
Both need to be on same wifi network. Then use Fileexpert to 'Share via FTP'. It'll host a FTP server. Just key in these details into Filezilla to access your phone storage.

I believe S4 is capable for at least another 3 years. Quad core A15 should be able to catch up for all apps release in next couple of years. Unless they're really planning to make a phone into a full fledged computing device then ossibly S4 won't be able to catch up.

oh yeah, AP set with lower price for SME set, I don't think samsung gonna offer ASOP version here. as we know, firmware different on LTE and non-LTE various. hopefully by this year end, S4 LTE model already available locally, so we can have the exact same model with US PLAY store and then flash manually from touchwiz to ASOP (assuming they're shipping I9505 too, else different story then). similar what we did about 1year and half ago, gnex non-Yakju to Yakju
update: quoted from S4 thread The Google Edition Galaxy S4 would probably be done on the SGH-I337 (AT&T) hardware rather than the GT-I9505 hardware (sames specs, just different LTE bands are supported and the SGH-I337 doesn't support 900 MHz for 3G)
so forgot about it, LG Malaysia please offer Nexus 5 LTE.

tried, need to force uninstall my existing TALK in order to install the new Hangout App
maybe because my TALK is under system app

the most awesome feature i feel is that synchronous alert notification, u read a msg in 1 device and that alert will go away in all your other devices
another thing is Hangout is cross platform/device compared to Talk ..

this is part correct and part wrong there is the clear notification to clear light flow or the on screen to clear light flow option that would solve it. not that we all use it. i also same problem, miss call sms fb etc then ligh blink blink and have to find out y blink sometimes

I got set that. But under normal circumstances, I set it to auto go off after 30mins. But if I read my msg on laptop. Then 30 mins not time up yet. When I switch on the screen, there's no notification but the LED is still blinking. Get what I mean?

yeah i get it, sometimes i duno blame the app or blame myself no set properly.. the most infrequent open app is lightflow set since 4.1or 4.0 then never set again, just let it update and use. problem just open all the set app then ok adi~

But bigfoot 2.0.1 with 243 is fine. Then I thought is the problem of 246. Then I flashed back to 243 on 2.0.2. Still same problem. On wifi whole day screen on 2 hours. You kidding???
Slim Pie Added second layer (7 buttons max + longpress) Faster/Better triggering Custom trigger height and gravity Option to mirror right PIE on horizontal axis Smart capture Hands free camera
I started with 242. 242 battery life similar to lean for me. Then moved to 243 on Bigfoot 2.0.1 I think is still ok. Then Moved to 246 + Bigfoot 2.0.2 then battery life become very very bad, very obviously a lot worse!
Then I thought going back to 243 will help. It doesn't
Now can't go back to Lean (need the restore wifi driver zip file) What's weird is... AK dev said the wifi driver is reverted to the old driver as the new driver won't work with WEP. But still, I get bootloop if I want to go back to AK.
Yea. Haha. The file so small only, cozs sometime the old one work better than the new one. Some user say that Cylon 801 is still the best.
Saw that too. Real? Saw someone posted using 801 with 0.5%/hour.
Tested and confirmed my batt is fine now. Surfed on 2G, Whatsapp, FB etc for last hour. Now 6 hours since unplugged, 1 hour screen on with 70%left. Idle at 1%/hour with WiFi and PGM on. Then off WiFi on 2G till now.
You need NFC? According to springfall, Polar macam can double our battery usage
at 1st i tot double.. but after <50% and <30% drain were noticed to be faster.
however, it is still better than stock, giving avg 3 days extra standby (upon 1st testing, workout yet) should improve after 1 week usage like all li-ion.

Not sure but RM30 macam is shipping to EM. If WM should be RM 2X.
This is by air freight that's why so expensive.
Normal goods like phone casing (all items without battery) is just RM9~RM12/KG to west malaysia. RM20+- to east malaysia. But for sensitive items, RM2X++~RM30/kg.
never replace battery before. about another 10days, it's already 1 year and half used, unable to get 100% charged, max is 94% time to buy new battery....

94% is nothing wrong with batt. itz ur phone battery calibrtion hence y i keep finding a recalibration app and wear logger.
just delete all battery states (in root browser) then cwm delete batery. then drain then recharge then delete then off and charge then delete again then charge then done.

u can try pulling battery, press power button, recharge full then wipe batery states and reboot then use till 0%.

Trying its default kernel. Looks like a stock kernel modified by the dev. Not much kernel settings. only stock frequency table, no voltage setting, added colour settings, the problem is... NO FAST CHARGE!!!!!!!!
I remember the setting was there with custom kernel. Gone when I stay with its default kernel. Why???????
Just now plug in laptop want to recharge my phone then my laptop detected new device. That ain't suppose to happen with fast charge on.
Just wondering how is it compared to brotan's claimed 1880mAh @ RM37

I'm the one. Compared to original battery, it lasted a little bit longer with my heavy usage, and with that price, its worth it. I bought an external charger, so I'm swapping both battery regularly.
I dun see the point unless u specifically speak to the supplier in german and tell them to do bulk to cut cost.
shipping is free (included) and it is mailed by standard mail with priority. why pay more (for bigger cargo) and go through someone (need to cari and mail over again ^$$) and also have the possibility of the someone increasing the cost (for Profit?)
just use ebay account and paypal then purchase simple.
and also meanwhile get hooked to buying more stuff on ebay

shipping is free (included) and it is mailed by standard mail with priority. why pay more (for bigger cargo) and go through someone (need to cari and mail over again ^$$) and also have the possibility of the someone increasing the cost (for Profit?)
just use ebay account and paypal then purchase simple.
and also meanwhile get hooked to buying more stuff on ebay
But you see, I have come through some calculations. Buying on ebay are much more cut cost rather than on person in LYN.
Well, not all items though. The only downside is, you have to wait.
let me see... buy dvd caddy 6AUD aka RM 18, postage free. 4 weeks LYN WTS dvd caddy, RM 50-58 postage no free. 1 week
let me see 256GB SSD samsung pro. RM 690 postage inc. 1-2 weeks max LYN WTS 280 SSD samsung pro 790-890 postage not free. 1 week max
let me see casing/battery/phone/ram etc?
Setting up a paypal= 0.1 cents which will be reimbursed. =very hassle. paying WTS people, is cold cash or CC.= no hassle
WTS no wait if pickup COD, postage will wait ebay depends on seller, some i received in 4 days.
if u think about it, i prefer ebay, save more $$ long run.

hahah.. right. I'm don't have PayPal acc, therefore block me simple online shopping. but if bulk purchase more saving, that really seduce me
@bugb34r, if total cost slightly lower, 1 unit for me
sometimes bulk save money, depending on who. some just buy bulk for profits.
i was like WTH 58 ringgit for a caddy? 80-120 ringgit for a audio technica headphones? i paid 18 ringgit dvd drive, and 45 ringgit for the same headphones.
those were bulk. those had no savings.

When you got a problem with the item. You'll scream hard
new play store arrived australia update itself 2day.
@IwanAGP, no u email the seller and threatened by making a case on ebay and paypal as well as minusing their ratings. that will scare them to deal with it promptly.
It depends on what you buy. I prefer to buy casing from Taobao. I bought one from Ebay. But ask my friend tolong order one. Lol I don't want setup. Once setup sure spend.
wont de, no money how to spend

overall, oversea items are much more cheaper than buying in forum
the only thing is shipping time much longer

It's possible. But google got Motorola now to manufacture their own phone. Let's see how Google decide the future of android ecosystem. I don't mind what phone it is as long as it got updates from Google. Agree?

Nexus will always there, but we might see more stock android phone out thr just like the S4 announced during Google I/O
for me, Google choose S4 just because the number of device are most impact to android ecosystem, so Google can make sure latest version in majority of entire active devices.
nexus should be never be kill, because if Samsung mass production improve for exynoss in future, then no more Qualcomm model.
Got to admit that S4/One/Padfone Infinity got really great hardware. The problem will be the price. Since it's manufactured and sold by respective manufacturer, it ain't going to be as cheap as Nexus devices. S4 Pro for 1650. I doubt any other manufacturer sell at that price now (besides LG Optimus G). Xperia ZL retail pun 17XX (or 1899?)
Not to consider the street price which is much lower for Nexus 4. It's cheaper even outside those Google countries with Play. Erm... Applies only for Nexus 7 onwards. Galaxy Nexus is hell expensive at launch, same level with all flagship from all brands.
Maybe it wasn't bad for Google to go this path. Just that... Those who want to buy those phone cheap won't get it at launch. Will wait a year before getting it since the price after 1 year normally is just half of that at launch.
Galaxy Nexus half-ed the launch price in just 6~7 months time (awesome )

It's very hard for this to happen.
For this to happen... Samsung either have to invest more in fab plants to fab moreeeeee Exynos chipset OR not to fab for Apple (big customerrr!!!).
Also... Samsung have much less patent/license for most of the technology that Qualcomm is holding. Qualcomm has gone through a very long journey in the communication field and later making them into integrated chipset. It's very hard for Samsung to keep up unless Samsung take over Qualcomm which is very very impossible.
It's amazing to see how Qualcomm can be one of the top semiconductor company that owns NO FAB PLANT. Everything "SUB" to other company (Foundry) to fab. Apa pun boleh SUB (just like Malaysia)

Really? That's the best reply you can come up with?

lol Android Authority is not known for their editorials being insightful, are they? I've always asked my friends not to read AA.
If you guys got follow Google I/O's sessions, there's one fireside chat, sorta like a Q&A session. Basically the idea behind the Nexuses is Google taking a lead in setting an example for how to implement Android on a piece of new hardware (the N10 was an example of Android on a new SOC architecture, ARM Cortex-A15). OEMs then use this reference design (aka Nexus devices) and adapt it to their platform. Say Android 4.2 arrives. Google shows how it's done to get it from code to hardware. OEMs then refer to it for their products.

-After a call ended, sometimes it will just stucked there, black screen, nothing appear/ no response even i press power/ volume buttons, either need to wait for few minutes until it comes on screen again or I pull out battery to restart.
-My Gnex will randomly auto-restart by itself
(My Gnex is running JB 4.2.2 yakju version)
Anyone can enlighten me? Is it software or hardware problem?

Giving up on AK. Even if I just downclock it a little, it still reboots as it likes :fury:
Smooth so what?
Happens a lot if you try to underclock. Go ahead and try latest FancyKernel. You won't be disappointed. I'm going to retire from flashing. Will migrate soon.

anyone here gonna buy polarcell battery? can I tumpang 1?
Just buy it yourself since it's free shipping. No difference whether to bulk or order it separately.
I need mroe review. Might be getting one too.
Btw...
Lean is still the best for battery. Last night wifi off PGM on as low as 0.7%/hour. If wifi on should be around 1.2~1.3%/hour standby.
Now 12 hours on standby with 92% left. Still not impressive enough but good for me. Last time use Galaxy W single core can 7 hours sleep drop 1% only. Never had that with GNex

I believe you will need to order on your own. This is what the seller replied me.
CODE
As our batteries are generally packed in bulk there is no special bulk-discount. But if you will need bigger quantities for sure I can calculate a better price for you.

Lean last night wifi off 0.4%-0.5% drain only with PGM. With wifi on <1% drain only. Still the best for me.
