btw.... kam_4160
i bought the i3 free dos version......is it all dell vostro are same motherboard?

The speakers seem to be fine from the feedback from other owners. Did you install the proper drivers for the OS you installed?

Yes, all Vostro 5460 use the same mainboard layout. But for those spec that don't come with factory mSATA SSD, booting from mSATA is not enabled in BIOS (I wonder if Dell still able to lock this after they release some BIOS flash upgrade in the future, how are they going to do it? hmm.gif )

Im looking to buy this. Whole lowyat nobody selling, whole digital mall nobody selling. Apparently its only online purchases. Problem is I called them and they said 2-3 bloody weeks to deliver PROVIDED no spare part shortage. And they cannot guarantee that there wont be a shortage.
*
2-3 weeks? so what? tongue.gif

tell you, DELL is awesome smile.gif bought dell vostro 3450 from online, and it has been a year, and it is rock solid. best part? AFTER SALES SERVICE. totally worth every penny.

first issue, bluetooth not functioning correctly. what did i do? call them, they control my system remotely, then they did all the dirty jobs (install/remove driver, troubleshoot etc..) while i just watching the cursor moving and have my nescafe while they did that smile.gif. then they solve the problem, till now work like a charm

second issue, keyboard not working. now here's the tricky part. my niece is so naughty she took a pen and start on my keyboard causing some scratches (not an issue really) so i took a sponge, soak it with foam and start cleaning it. wah so nice keyboard look so brand spanking new! then few keyboard not working. so i just wait for a while to let it dry for few days, still the same.

so i call them, i simply say keyboard not working. they ask to troubleshoot, go inside safe mode and start typing, so i say ya its not working i cant type. straight away tech support said, "ok keyboard not working, will send to you replacement tomorrow"

just now, their engineer (sub con actually) came and didnt say much, simply replace, and now i am happily typing with it now smile.gif

seriously, go grab this ultrabook. take optional 3 years Next Business Day coverage. simply awesome!

I thought Vostro series would be well suited for trips. The thing I want is:

1. Fast boot up, so I don't have to wait forever to get to the desktop (Core i3 is enough right?)
2. Laptop that doesn't feel like its fragile and about to break.
3. Got enough juice for about 3-4 hours.
4. 3-4 USB slots.
5. Light, but not Ultrabooks as those are expensive.

i'm use the simple way only. delete all the partition, a system reserved partition will be created when create new partition on HDD. create new partition on msata, and direct install the win7 into msata partition, done.
because bootmgr in new system reserved partition will be generate during window installation and track to path that new win7 been installed.

if u meant clone OS and edit bootmgr path, try google it biggrin.gif

As I said, what OS did you installed? iirc, a few older posts in this thread mentioned he experience different sounds from the same speaker using drivers from different OS. icon_rolleyes.gif

Sorry, I have a few questions regarding the Vostro 5460.

1) Is the trackpad really that bad (that you're annoyed with it?)
2) Does it heat up badly after some time using it?
3) Are there any other issues that I should know?

Thank you in advance.

1. Yeah, its pretty bad, often "jumping" from here to there. But it can be easily fixed by using a mouse. Most people don't use touchpad anyway laugh.gif
2. Depends on what processor you are getting. A normal (mobile) i3 and also i5 will definitely heat up when on load, especially when its on such a slim notebook
3. Short battery life (3-cell battery to save weight, so its quite understandable) and also the poor built in front of the touchpad (will hurt hands via friction when used to much)
