What is your Vostro model? i3, i5M or i5U? If i5M please run a battery test. Put about 50% brightness with wifi on let's see how long it can sustain. Thanks.

DELL VOSTRO 5460/i5-3230M/4GB/500GB/14"/2G/DOS/SILVER

Will keep you guys posted once I run the test over the weekend.

I hope other owners can verify this..

Is the sound of speaker for this laptop really low? I have blast it up till 100% and I hardly hear anything.. But once i plugged in my headset, it seems to be perfectly fine.

For those who wish to install or using Linux like Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Chakra and etc... there is some issue with the sound drivers.

I have installed Windows 7 to test it out and my machine speaker does work thus ruling out the famous Dell defective sense pin failure in the jack..

I am reinstalling back my sweet Kubuntu back and wait for the fix to be done...

so devour.. this is my feedback for the speaker... not hardware failure

Hey 5460 owners. Congrats on getting yourselves a extremely value for money unit! I'd like to ask what you guys think about the trackpad. I tried it in lowyat yesterday. Doesn't seem to be very accurate and sensitive. Adjustable? Thanks.
*
indeed it is not really sensitive (if i compare it with Lenovo T420s) but I still figure it out on how to improve with via the setting in Linux... smile.gif

nice drool.gif
but seems like red is more attractive to me tongue.gif
btw, scarxxx the speaker is very good run with win7?
*
yo bro suadrif here is my feedback on the speaker:-

Basically I just install the Win7 ultimate (pirate version) without any proper driver from Realtek, it works decently. It work out of the box in Windows 7.

To compare, the sound is not as loud as my company lappie which is Lenovo T420s. I don't really listen to music via laptop speaker tongue.gif

One more thing I want to mention here, for those who have some doubt with the UEFI, it can be switched to Legacy mode and the Secure Boot can be turned off too. So for those Linux enthusiast, there is no worries installing your favorite distro on it.

Here the online spec
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/e...anual_en-us.pdf

from page:33
Table 9. Memory
Feature Description
Memory connector HM77
Memory capacity 4 GB
Memory type SO-DIMM
Minimum memory 2 GB
Maximum memory 4 GB

I got ask Dell and they say max only 4GB, that is why I ask. I also want to updrade to 8GB. Since somebody already able to do it then should be fine (just don't want to waste).

I ordered the Vostro 5460 RM1899 (Ubuntu) so far the satisfy with the laptop for normal usage. haven't try to play game. Too bad resolution only 1366x768 and screen shorter than macbook 13.3" but wider. Have to put my taskbar on the side instead on bottom. Lucky order Grey color instead of red because armrest more match with black. External display can set as high as 1920X1080. I just fell the discrete graphic never kick, maybe have to try 3D stuff or force to active. Gesture so so good even though sometime no response.
Format Ubuntu and Install window 8 pro, so far no complaint yet on OS. But suddenly 2 usb port at power share port not working after wake up from sleep mode. Have to restart. Power share port work as describe.
Oh ya, once manually install OS many driver have to install.
Sound 2.1 just normal nothing special. Lastly satisfy with battery duration.

Question: Since my laptop didn't come with mSata SSD, can I buy it and install?

Bad experience with online CS:
I order mine on 25th April, After 7 day I receive only system without bag. I call in and local CS answer the call and log the report. online CS (From India) return my call and they say my order not include bag. Luckily I have Dell contact and they confirm on 25, 26 have system glitch. Still online CS from India don't want to give me but local sale approve and send me the bag (just receive today).

I am looking for an answer for this as well. The question is the adapter is in the machine for those non Ultrabook version. Perhaps devour can help answering this question. smile.gif

now i m confuse if either take with Win8 or just ubuntu  rclxub.gif

If you want to have a complete package then take the highest spec with Win8...
You can replace the Ubuntu with whatever OS you want if you have a tight budget... biggrin.gif
