Frequently Asked Question on what kind of bikes to get:

1) Aluminum bike - 10 speed Tiagra (maybe mixed Tiagra - Sora), priced around RM3k up- this would be the absolute lowest point i would say to start from... any lower and you will land outside of 10speed equipment and any upgrades will certainly be more than the difference you saved not buying this bike.. shimano launched tiagra with 10speed beginning of this year making this a considerable choice... also, this grade of bike will have a more common grade of cockpit (handlebar, stem, seat post, saddle) and cheaper wheels

2) Aluminum bike - 10 speed 105 (maybe mixed 105 - Tiagra), priced around RM3.8k up- most likely the same frame above with a different paint livery, this would be an entry level into shimano's definition of competition components... tiagra would be what they called the top tier among the enthusiast group.. although both 10 speed... but materials and feel... tiagra has a shift indicator while the 105 does not hence giving you a pro feel (what the bike shop will tell you)...mostly.. tiagra has a bit more plasticky bits than 105... some slightly more expensive models might even start offering slightly better wheels like mavic aksiums along with better slightly better graded cockpit...

- i would not try and go past 105 on a aluminum bike... the best brands like specialized or bmc will be selling an aluminum bike equipped with 105 for a little over RM5k... going 1 notch up into ultegra will lead you to start looking into higher end bikes as those bikes will surely creep past RM6k and most likely a mismatch between frame and component grades... you will be practically trying to pair a set of RAYS CE28N onto a Perodua Myvi if you get what i mean in car terms...

3) Carbon bike - 10 speed 105 (possibly not full 105), priced around RM7k up- this would be a foray into performance bicycles... although a carbon frame... but this are not the best carbon has to offer for 2 reasons... carbon cloth grade (less modulus, less weave, lower grade binding agents) and the man power / time needed (less complex layup schedules) to layup the carbon layers into producing a frame... basically a mass produced frame with the lowest production cost possible... not all that bad... it should still be on par if not better with the best of the aluminum frames in terms of stiffness.. basically, component should be similar or slightly better than the aluminum 105 bike depending on the price you pay...

- here i would name one which shocked me quite a bit recently... saw this Look 566...this http://www.lookcycle.com/en/int/route/velo...-bike-2013.html , but i guess a previous year model...... carbon frame with Mavic Aksium wheels... not a complete 105 with some downgraded cranks and calipers... a carbon frame with comfort geometry retailing for RM7.1k if my memory serves me right...

- price is slightly high for some people... but if you look at it...maybe under 30% more if you are looking at a Apex or 105 equipped Specialize Allez

4) free for all - death - bankruptcy - you name it...
- step into this and there will be no return...

Beside on the modern roadbike, there's also classic roadbike that worth to consider, if you're classic roadbike lover.

at best, this is considered a classic remake...

with columbus tubing at least... if there is any chance that anyone still makes a bike with reynolds 531 tubing, even better...

it has to be small round tubes and lugged in order to qualify as classic...

the only wheel that is capable of doing what you want would be the mavic cosmic slr and mavic rsys slr... both has the exalith aluminum rims and the rsys is almost as light as the 303FC tubulars and both are clinchers... the tub versions don't offer much weight savings.. pricey though...still has to adjust pads if you intend to swap wheel...

mavic rsys slr do tempt me with it's all black colors which suits my bike..but that would be a climbing wheels, just like my FR0. Choices are limited! but that surely will reduce some grams.

FR0 dark label but still not dark enough...i hate the shining chrome on my bike, it looks like a sore thumb sticking out from the stealthy look ..the same goes to the braze on clamp which is in silver! I tried to look for the black one from Campy at Godzilla but they are run out of stock hmm.gif

i dont have the weight scale yet at the moment but at most with my guesstimation i can reduce:

FRO - Rsys SLR = 135 grams ------ wth, i might skip this option.
Carbon cages = 40grams
carbon seatpost = 110 grams
carbon handlebar = 100 grams
seat = 104 grams
skewers = ~80 grams

total = 569 grams

7.9kg - 569g = 7.3kg

So to make it sub 7kg I have to further do this things..

change pedals = 130grams
change to lighter groupsets = maybe 300-400grams?? Im not sure about this

i suggest you aerolite pedals... only 36 grams each.. even speedplay nanogram zero's will lose out to it...
http://www.aerolitepedals.com/index.php?op...id=50&Itemid=58

as for brakes, eebrakes is sub 200 grams... shaves about 30 grams off the new red aerolink...
http://www.eecycleworks.com/eebrake.html

unfortunately, THM did not make any scapula forks with 1 3/8 lower tapered steerers before... but no fear, money solves this problem.. plant in 20k euros and i believe you get your one off 1 1/8 upper, 1 3/8 lower THM Scapula fork....might shave easily 50 grams off as all THM Scapula is sub 300 gram....
http://www.thm-carbones.de/scapula-90.html

full THM cockpit... i dunno how much that will save... lazy to speculate at this point...
http://www.thm-carbones.de

some Enve 1.25 laced to tune hubs...saves 300 grams maybe...

and sub 7K would be no problem...

No 21. Today will drop by Unker's BS, to get my puncture fixed and might as well weigh my bike, i guess it should be close to 7.9kg. And get a HRM too.

Have recently gone for a bike fit and must say it was worth every penny. Flexibility and past injuries (if any), feet (pronation) etc were recorded. Little did I know that I had the saddle at the wrong height all along and this was after a basic fit at the bike shop. The seat was raised almost 15-20mm !! Riding in the drops was a lot more comfortable compared to before and I could sustain higher rpm for a much longer period. Previously I could only do a short burst of 110-120 rpm but now can maintain it for a few minutes.

Also got to test a selle smp saddle and must say my ass loved it but my wallet didn't so it was given a miss

Wait until u see Lightweight with the white spokes..forgot la the model.

What do u guys think about Vision wheels? Around rm4500 only, the aero wheels

I was planning to get 404fc as the aero wheels for flat route and my FR0 for climbing but haveto change brakepads everytime and adjust the angle..maybe sell mu FR0 and get a do-it-all wheelset..the 303FC or 202FC?

if money no problem, i'd pay extra for shipping fee, customs tax, for a set of custom built HED C2 from wheelbuilder.com, if they have clincher version. if not, i might choose something else from them, or from other builders.

you have to get your facts straight...pro's have the ability to swap wheels every couple of months... you can't...and breaking a wheel for them is no harder than breaking a sweat...

the wheels were 850grams off the shelf and reached gunther mai @ 734grams... the crazy hitler worshiping mofo took it a further 30 grams lighter by making love to it day and night i meant grinding the axles and stuff that most of us including paul lew think is there for safety reasons...

newbie here, thinking of getting a new road bike after retire from tricycle...
can recommend some? budget 2.5k max, found a KHS Flite 300 or is there any better suggestion for a new bike?

is it true that if simply buy a cheap road bike then the upgrading on the part later will be incompatible and expensive? would like to get some comment and learning here

there is no such thing as incompatibility... you might just have to pay quite a bit more to get the whole shebang to work...

there is always options for under RM2.5k... you might want to take a peep at the nearest bike shop to you first...

http://www.baikbike.com/bicycle-shops/

the general guidelines will always be that you take a look at the giants (, meridas, jamis, khs, fuji first.

they will have some sora equipped bikes that should be within 2.5k... then you might need a bit more for some protective gear like helmet, accessories like lights and gloves... expect another RM200-RM300 from those stuff...

pin pointing models might be hard since we don't know a lot of things from you like location, how you allocate your budget and stuff... give the shops a stroll and narrow down your options first.

2 reasons why porsche don't work...

1) they are not in formula 1
1.1) they do not have access to special carbon technologies
2) they do not work with carbon a lot more than mclaren does
3) they do not have wind tunnel
4) they did not build a playstation 3 car like the mp4-12c
5) they are not a conglomerate of companies that can work towards making my exclusive bike (http://www.mclaren.com/group#/what-we-do)
5.5) group companies like "applied technologies" is what helped spez with the McVenge
6) they don't have ron dennis
7) they don't have the visionary gordon murray
8) they don't have a server farm as big as mclaren does
9) they don't have FEA solutions like mclaren does
10) they don't have simulators or the capability to build one like mclaren does
11) last but not least, they are germans and they are most likely communist nazi's

i think i have given enough reasons...

next in line if mclaren is not suitable will be Ferrari... and they have one more thing that mclaren does not have... passionsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

on a side note... GT3 is a car for wussies, 4WD???... any porsche buyers know that they have to buy the rear wheel driven wild and crazy widow maker called the GT2 RS... every second of driving it you live on the edge as it plots millions of way to interestingly kill you... so much possibilities can go through it's little mind if it has one that even the IBM Deep Blue cannot match... gary kasparov could not possibly mind f@k it...

ok, i thought i saw GT3 RS...a man needs to drive a manly car... anything below 700 horse (except for cars as exquisite as a Ferrari) is better left at home or to be driven to the nearby grocery shops only, you don't want to get smoked by the japanese 500++ horse PS3's when you are driving it out... standing still, it already looks like it has a gazillion horses ready to prance out...

mclaren is the sensible gentleman that can occasionally be given some stig....

not when you get a P800 kit for it...

there is no such thing as driver involvement nowadays... we have become too numbskulled to be quick enough to respond and to correct under and oversteer situations...

it'll just be a case of Depress Accelerator-> Heavy Motion Blur-> Meet Wall-> Coffin

either one is good...

the polygon would be a better value for money but then you are buying a bata shoe

the trek on the other hand is giving you lesser for your money but you are buying a nike shoe...

nike or bata, your decision...one is going to suck on the frame possibly, the other is going to suck on components possibly when you learn that you want better components...

yeap it's the red one.

is the difference of tiagra and 105 able to justify the buying all those myself?
and how much is the gears just by themselves?
the guy said its 8.7kg without pedals
plus he also said that its components and frame can beat those of the higher brand but that its not so famous. or something like that

the point is, the polygon shop is not pressing you to buy the extra accessories... and even better is that you might pay less buying them at other shops.. especially if the entire list from the trek offering is not what you needed... and what is worst, not what you like of the individual items...

if you think the trek is a better deal, your answer is right in front of your eyes... else, everyone else has chipped in on the answer..

Coming from a cheapo commuter, what's the significance of a better frame? Lighter?

I heard a lot on emphasis on frame, but couldn't find the justification apart from steel vs alloy vs aluminium. What if Polygon and Trek made from the same material, then what's the difference?

more or less i believe both will level...

i dun trust the trek is going to give you some moa or nalini jerseys... most likely some cheap ones and unless oyu have details on what each individual item they are giving you... hard to tell how much would the additional stuff they give you costs...

the basics like a simple computer costs no more than RM100
stand RM40 at most
front and back lights RM100- RM150, even RM70 might be more than enough if you get the real cheap ones
gloves RM100 for good ones
bottles and cages can't cost much if they aren't branded ones like elite...

that leaves the ones that are not too fixed in pricing...

that leaves the jersey that can range from RM160 for the fake ones from BBS to the real quality ones that can costs upwards for RM400 and also if you like the jersey...

helmet is hard to tell because of styling, shape and sizing... expect from RM100 to RM300

as a better gauge for the costs you have to cover between 105 and tiagra

http://www.bicyclebuysell.com/#page=1&type...=105&discipline[]=2

http://www.bicyclebuysell.com/#page=1&type...agra&discipline[]=2

this is 2nd hand prices of both groups on BBS... and let me remind you... this is the costs you might have to cover if you find that you want a 105 after purchasing it...

there is also no such thing as lifetime warranty... lifetime warranty means that they will cover it as long as they are in production and there is stock for replacements... and only for manufacturer defects not user negligence or crashes...

it's for a peace of mind at the end of the day

point in case...
bata vs nike
proton vs honda

the cheaper ones can always have better offerings than the superior brand, but people still opt for the latter for the confidence and peace of mind...

So it's down to branding issue.

Personally if I know the material and craftsmanship of Bata which is the same albeit lower cost, I'd go with Bata.
But if Nike 3X more expensive but the shoe still has the same durability with Bata what's the point?

i don't think you can find a used 6700 set for less than RM1.5k... a set taken off a new bike is very likely to fetch RM2k easy on the market...

quality wise it should be the same... although there might be some design niggles here and there... but, it is no deal breaker and quite expected for the price paid..

size 50 for a 175 is more or less there...the next jump in polygon is a size 54 and that is very big...

you can make adjustments later as you go along with stem lengths and stuff like that on a 50...the seatpost length is definitely more than enough to cover for your inseam....

have you try to hop on the bike for a feel??? the internet guides is just for reference, the final feel on the bike decides what you ride...

the most important thing to look for is that you are not too outstretched when grabbing on the furthest part of the handlebar, usually the brake hoods and you can still bend your elbow a bit...

Anyone here using Ultegra Di2....so far any cons except need to charge the battery? Maintenance ok like mechanical version?
*
biggest con of all... price.. and possibly standardization...

next compatibility problems...comes next iteration, they launch some new cabling or junction box again and you are screwed..ask the lab rats that bought 10s da di2 and they'll know how it feels like getting screwed over by da9000...

else, there is lots of pros... smooth, accurate, and fast shifting...auto trimming so you can run big-big, small-small combination, power shift front chainring under immense loads (shifts no matter what you do to it) and i heard... even a total mechanical idiot can set it up... just need to set lower and upper limit correctly and it shifts like a robot (it is a robot anyways)...

another cons i could think of... and this is only a possibility... is no mix and match drivetrain components... in case you want some FSA EVO 386 or BB30 cranks on your frame or some funky chainrings like rotor q rings and ossymetric... you might get dropped chain and stuff like that like what happened to bradley wiggins... matching DA9000 to his old 7900 SRM crank...

shimano can't and is unwilling to guarantee perfect shifting with components other than their own da9000

http://gizmodo.com/5661253/giz-explains-wh...o-in-the-mirror

and i quote
QUOTE
It's the camera

The camera adds ten pounds! At a certain point, this obscure TV adage became folk wisdom. While this particular effect probably refers specifically to television, and in particular the distorting effect of the convex curvature of older TV sets, it seems to hold true for regular folks, sometimes in still pictures as well as video.

Cameras sensors may be absorbing the same photons as our eyes, but they're doing so through a complex lens that can actually change the way you look. Most cameras, from the dumpiest point-and-shoots to high-end DSLRs, ship with lenses capable of adjusting to wide, zoom-ed out perspective, and tight, zoomed-in views. At both extremes, the lens plays weird—and potentially ugli-fying tricks.

A wide angle lens does as its name suggests, capturing an image spread over a wide angle. The field of view in a wide-angle shot is wide—wider than that of your own eyes. In pulling this off, some lenses create a sort of fisheye effect, which can bloat subjects in the middle, and stretch those on the outside. This, however, is instantly recognizable, and probably won't cause too much anxiety. In other words, If the shot looks like a still from an episode of Jackass, you probably shouldn't let it figure into your self-image too much.

1) 105 is lighter
2) tiagra has more plasticky bits especially on the shifter compared to 105
3) 105 has a stiffer crank via a hollow crankarm and it is lighter too

in general all the bits and pieces are more finely machined and made with more care... even the brake cartridge on the 105 is the cartridge type while the 105 is a shoe... saves u money in future jus changing inserts instead of whole shoe... performance pads also available in inserts only

size 50 vs size 54 really big gap.

have u find out what size suite u? read below. A good bike shop wont simple push u to buy a bike that doesnt fit u.

but still there's many do so. hope ur shop is honest one.

LOL, but seriously snowguy, I understand your frustration.

Availability and brands may put your focus away from size but a wrong size will make you so frustrated that you might even do this

i didn't... i bought what i had money for at my time... had no choice, stuck with what i could get... went through lot of hell to get the bike right, including countless amounts of $$$ which could have been much more well spent if i had the money in the first place...

obviously a lot of people say they have no money and then at the end... money magically appears from nowhere...

so, my logic nowadays is that people who says they are rich is indeed poor but trying to act rich... people who says they are poor actually has tons to fling around...

Last night I did a self test and my average speed is 27km/hr on a 40km relatively flat loop at 75-82% maximum heart rate Zone.
If I continue to ride at this Zone, what will be my realistic target by the end of he year?
I hope I can handle 40km/hr ITT with my ordinary bike as an achievement....can ah?

as we said... the most important thing is to hop on the bike and get a feel... you can't base all this from internet recommendations and our BS... at the end of the day... it's your bod on the bike... not ours... what you read are just base guidelines and not to be applied on the actual bike...

furthermore, there is a lot of measurements that the general internet fit calculators do not take into account...if you think 54 is right, go with a 54... we didn't say it's wrong... it's just safer to play a 50 in our opinion...

and if you want to take 54 because it is available now... so is that your choice...we also said before from the beginning... no rush or rash decisions...

the zones are practically your alarm... generally there is guidelines for each zone and i trust your zones are configurable...

you monitor your HR when you ride at different intensities and find out what each range of HR feels like... so you set the zones to act as alarms so you know if you still have buffer to push harder or start to hold back or fall into recovery zone before you wear yourself out...

there is no way to tell how much improvements can be made lar...miao is not your trainer and he can't make guestimations... it depends on how much you can push yourself at the end of the day... because the harder you push the more resistant your body is to giving out under duress...

always aim to ride harder and longer as events like ITT is always solitary and it depends on how hard you can push yourself without the motivation of someone to chase down...

i think this is a good base guide for HR zones...

http://www.cycling-inform.com/heart-rate-t...ve-your-cycling

but again... dependent on you... if you feel that you can still wrestle a tiger when your heart is pumping 190 times a minute, you can set that as zone 2.. but i doubt your polar allows you to do that...

Thanks, I feel fresher after my ride last night, without over exertion. Without the monitor, I just tend to push myself whenever I could and not sure where do I go from there. At least now. I'm able to set my own riding program base on HRM and hope for the best.

No ITT event, just self-time and to know my limits, and if I can go 40km, that will my accomplishment, not thinking of going into competitions for faks....

My future plans will be BKT rides to Klang, maybe this 1st of May.. Can you please chart a course, to and back for me(others?) let's say leaving DPC at about 7am.
Also which BKT shop would be nice. thanks.

I have Never rode more then 1 km radius of my car- spare tubes and pumps, pryers, which I don't currently have?
Maybe just Flagged a taxi home as an alternative if puncture happens.

Miao Kor, as an experience Polar HRM user, Is the HRM (BPM Zone) an integral part of your training and rides.
*
honestly, i don't use my HRM as a training tool to improve my performance. so i can't answer ur questions.

heart problem runs in my family. so i use HRM to monitor my effort so as not to overexert myself. and i don't get tired quickly from putting too much effort. that's all. that's why i said, personally i only want to see speed, distance, time, HR. i don't bother with % gradient, lap time, avg speed, power, etc

tats like if pay for prostitute... i pay for a japanese one even though it is more expensive...it is still justifiable??? even though a thai, vietnamese or cina mali punya all also have the same tricks and moves...

buy tenga or fleshlight, buy the most expensive one...

buy porno... must buy bluray version..

i think that analogy sounds like it...

it is enduro... not available here la...

http://endurobearings.com/home/

but as usual... NTN and SKF might be your saviour...

actually... the bearings is not my primary concern... i trust the enduro bearings are ok to last long... the main problem would rather be the engagement mechanism and the axles as those are made of weaker aluminum...

dun waste money... do that later...

if you have the extra, maybe the wheels.. but nothing short of topping up at least RM1k will make a difference...depending on what they have

your call on that one...

the wheels that would make any difference if any would cost at lest 1k... most likely nearing 2k.. and you don't shave 900grams...you shave much less than that... lucky if you can shave even half of that with that price..

it is expected for that weight... you can't niggle much on that end...

I could go all the way Red or Force..my Allez is way below my budget at that time..if I go all Red, I know I'll be banging my head because Red 22 is released shortly after. If I go for all Red and Sworks SL4, I know I'll be banging my head should SL5 make it appearance at the end of this year..

So I settled for the new 2013 Allez Race E5. I'm pretty pleased with the purchase though..I guess the geometry suits me really well..saved my budget nearly half, and still can fulfill the lusts wub.gif

haha... i was jus filling in the blanks till you come and clarify it yourself...

btw...the blue tire does really suck...see also pening...

for much of the reason.. force is actually pretty close to red if you don't mind losing the blackbox ceramic bearing and some more exotic materials the components is made out of...in fact only force and red is has bb30 cranks in the entire sram line up...

Hey guys

Just would like to seek some advise from you all.
Much appreciate wink.gif
I bought a new road bike, very basic with left & right gear, few hundred bulks. Actually I don't know how to use it? Especially I try to climb the hill. Please can you all share the knowledge? Because read thru the article via others websites, it still very much confusing me.
I mean, the combination like 1 - 2,3,4; 2-3,4,5; 3-4,5,6 and so on... I did try but failed to climb and fall down from the bike when climbing the hill this morning(not exactly hill, just a bit steepest).

The worst experience was last Thursday, when I was cycling around the house area, here and there, I was suddenly vomit and almost fainting; can't control breathing... Sigh!

Can you all shed a light on how to use the gear & how to increase the stamina? Energy drink or food before and after cycling?

Thanks in advance wink.gif

Welcome!
Why so dramatic one.. Are you pushing yourself too much? The rides suppose to give you enjoyment one...
Can't tell you exact reason without knowing the details.
I seen young guy puked going up hill due to over exertion or you may have overdid it while in a full stomach.

Don't worry, you will get over it, take it easy my friend and enjoy. In time to come, you will be able to do staff you currently unable to. And go with the biggest gears for easier climb.

Oh, I am not young guy anymore, lol..,
Has been 15 yrs didnt ridding on a bike, yay, that's result!
I also thought it supposed to be enjoy, which weekend ridding and take off my little belly, get in shape as you mentioned, to be young again. Haha wink.gif

But what do you mean by biggest gear?
I trying to figure up how to use those gear to make the ridding more easy and need not to put much effort to push like giving birth?! Lol

My bike shop told me, I have to adjust the right side gear and then adjust left side gear. I did try several combination just now to go up hill again. But my knees just killing my muscle so much.

Ya, last Thursday was a tragedy.
Vomit, almost black out by side of the road, a taxi drove me home. Exhausted!

I would like to take it to a hobby.
Few hours in morning & evening during weekend.
But I think gear is big tool, if I could turn it out as power gear haha...

but... technically...

i think it is less than half full or more than half empty... the glass is not shaped symmetrically... so the cubic capacity of the top part which is wider than the bottom should be more...

start out by lapping around your house first... flat road preferably..get a feel of the bike and when you are comfortable..then you try the small hills...

when going up hills... use the lightest gear you can find... or as heavy as you can afford to depending on the speed...that means the smallest in the front (left side shifter) and the combination of the larger gear at the back (right side)

it's like driving a car, you can't force a car to go up genting in 5th gear at 20kph... so you downshift appropriately till the car is not struggling up the incline...you do the same for your bike..

Good advise.
I definitely did as what you said on previously riding.
I was riding on flat road, around the house area and try to figure out what's best gear I should use for certain riding space.
I did adjust to lower gear to climb, the pedal comes easily, but can't any farther to the hill. I must step down & push the bike up. I tried again, unfortunately reach half hill, I must step down again. Until I fall down from the bike this morning.

I know that when it comes to highest gear, it would more easy on flat road, faster and riding with the wind.
I also realise that climbing hill need some techniques and get more practice. I just doubt about my bike gear, because few combination I done for, it seen cant go any farther ;( it quite let me down. At least there's cruel to practice with mentality and technically wink.gif

it depends on what gearing you have... unless the place you are climbing is quite steep... maybe you should tell where it is and we could have ridden there before to tell you if it is considered steep...

riding on the smallest front chainring and the biggest rear cog should be able to get you up most stuff... but as a newbie.. road bike gearing is never as light as MTB...so, it might take a while if you meet with the steep stuff...

wat i suggest is ride the flats first to build up your stamina a bit and find the hill that is short and least steep... progressively build from there on as you find longer and steeper ones... you need a combination of both to improve on your stamina and build some muscles...

The bike front chain always on smallest cog?!
Ya, I was riding from Permaisuri 1 - > Permaisuri 2 (actually I want to ride to TBS), I failed at Jalan Budiman, where the hill at. It quite steepest though.
Maybe you can talk a look on the photo below.

Your advise is good. I also have a same thought, to ride on flat road for couple weeks to see whether I could catch up later for the hill.

My left leg now pretty painful, but I believe I had have extream sporty outdoor. Haha...

Please come more suggestion, I love to know more what you all have been done before.

personally, i don't think much of the appropriate gears to be in, etc. when i cycle, if i feel it's getting harder n my cadence is getting slower, i shift to lighter gear (bigger cog). if i've run out of cogs, i shift to smaller chainring and shift to smaller cog.

don't think too much. cycling should be as natural as running/walking.

there was a lady i cycled with before. she read technical articles off the internet on how to cycle uphill. so one day we went cycling together in a group. first climb, bukit hantu. she climbed awfully slow, even too slow for a beginner. we waited for a long time at the top of the hill. when she reached the top, we saw that she had her gear at the smallest cog. so we asked her, why? she said she read the article, and it said when climbing uphill, u should shift to lower gear. the article meant, shift to the largest cog. what she understood was, shift down to the smallest cog. and she stayed in that cog despite having a hard time climbing.

don't be too nerdy and stick to the articles we read, and forgo the magnificent capability of our brain to think logically

if the going gets tough, shift to lighter gear. so on n so on.... that's the purpose of gearing

haha... i was jus filling in the blanks till you come and clarify it yourself...

btw...the blue tire does really suck...see also pening...

for much of the reason.. force is actually pretty close to red if you don't mind losing the blackbox ceramic bearing and some more exotic materials the components is made out of...in fact only force and red is has bb30 cranks in the entire sram line up...

SRAM Force is good enough for me..I'm loving the double tap..until now no upgrade so far..

QUOTE(ryanconferido @ Apr 28 2013, 01:18 PM)

Ryan

Dude, you might wanna check your health condition first with a doctor, see whether you can do strenuous activities or not. Fainting on a bike on the road could be fatal hmm.gif

I live there. Used to cycle your route also..ok lah can sweat a bit riding there, mostly on weekend morning when there's not many cars on the road..want a steeper climb you can try the residential area going to Tesco, I forgot the name of the place.

you mean Taman connough? Come on, I try to ask how to get up hill... Sigh! Lot of feedback doesn't help. I mean more specific, that's why I am here.
But, I appreciate.
I had have chat with my doctor, my health definitely fit for cycling, nor any activity. I also know why I got vomit and black out experience.
Never mind dude, I am on my own.

personally, i don't think much of the appropriate gears to be in, etc. when i cycle, if i feel it's getting harder n my cadence is getting slower, i shift to lighter gear (bigger cog). if i've run out of cogs, i shift to smaller chainring and shift to smaller cog.

don't think too much. cycling should be as natural as running/walking.

there was a lady i cycled with before. she read technical articles off the internet on how to cycle uphill. so one day we went cycling together in a group. first climb, bukit hantu. she climbed awfully slow, even too slow for a beginner. we waited for a long time at the top of the hill. when she reached the top, we saw that she had her gear at the smallest cog. so we asked her, why? she said she read the article, and it said when climbing uphill, u should shift to lower gear. the article meant, shift to the largest cog. what she understood was, shift down to the smallest cog. and she stayed in that cog despite having a hard time climbing.

don't be too nerdy and stick to the articles we read, and forgo the magnificent capability of our brain to think logically

if the going gets tough, shift to lighter gear. so on n so on.... that's the purpose of gearing

i think this is one of the things that you can't google for an answer isn't it???

i can't get it why everytime i try to explain shifting gears on a bike to the relation of shifting gears in a car and it doesn't work...isn't it the same theory??? and we didn't google how to shift gears on the car did we?

i wouldn't be saying what i said if my creative imagination came through isn't it???

the only time i think it is possible to see mila kunis would be in my dreams and that had yet to happen... realistically in the real world... the closest i would get to her would be via a bluray disc and a movie poster whenever a new movie of her comes up...

so, kudos to imagination... keep hopes that can never happen high...

credit card is over-rated... use Amex... you can buy the bike of your imagination in 2 winks..

now i don't understand wat you are looking for...

a step by step guide?

on your vomit and black out issues.. i don't want to try second guessing here.. your health is better left to the real experts to determine..it can be many possible reasons whether it is health or lack of nutrition related.... but it is nothing some powerbar or gels can solve that i am of certain...

why not??? Amex is a charge card lar bro... no limits... you can buy a ferrari on the spot with it even...

if malaysia tarak.. no problem.. lemme teach you how

1) you buy a new iphone 5 with the amex card and with it a new number and ensure it has IDD and international roaming
2) call every bmc shop in the world with it to find out who has it in stock ready
3) book the first available 1st class flight to the country that has it (must be first class you know, you fly in style to go get your stylo milo new bike), again with your amex card
3.5) get a 6 door limo to pick you up from airport to bmc bike shop (optional depending on distance from airport to shop)
4) go there swipe your amex card and flip the salesman the bird
5) go to fedex or dhl and swipe your amex card one more time to rush ship it back home to malaysia or you can go ride it wherever you are there and then then go rush ship it back to malaysia
6) go have fun around town (makan, tidur, whambam, watever yanks your chain), again with your amex
7) first class flight again back home with your amex
8) your bike should have reached your doorsteps by then
9) declare bankruptcy because you cannot pay your amex charges (optional)

sound plan?

jus to avoid raising the flag of the customs officer... RM500 is automatic raise flag...

but still possible to kena if they have the suspicion...general rule with customs is, there is no general rule.. they buat sesuka hati irregardless to the rules the written..

i brought in a cable for my friend from HKG the other day...got the seller to underwrote the value to only 120USD and put it as "used"...i didn't use "gift" to lessen suspicion...but i kena taxed RM30+ anyways.. which was still acceptable since the cable was around RM1.8k in actual costs....

was more afraid might get caught with the sirim stuff since it's electrical stuff... that would be more pain than paying tax...

i noticed godzilla cycle sells original swisstop pads... they have almost everything up to yellow king gold...but price is above RM150 upwards to RM220+

else, you can ask GH Speedbike in advance and see if they have the SRAM pad inserts since they are theoretically the same pads made by swisstop...i remember those are cheaper...and since GH and godzilla are just behind each other in the same area...
