Glad to hear you guys are doing well after Lasik but still I am apprehensive about the procedure. What if Ectasia occurs years after the surgery ? There are so many reports about it. Just type 'corneal ectasia after lasik'. You will find several reports on it.

Dont worry, if you really unlucky to have ectasia post LASIK, i can refer you to a specialist who does lenses for failed surgery, the lens reduced glare, halo and ghosting effect with power correction. He gets lot of referral cases from eye specialist. |

Fortunately, surgically induced ectasia is rare, though the number of cases is not known. “We don’t know the answer to what percentage of LASIK patients develops ectasia,” said J. Bradley Randleman, MD, who suspects the number is underreported. “We’ve been pretty good at screening out a lot of cases,” said Yaron S. Rabinowitz, MD, a member of the 2005 consensus committee. “I’m amazed there aren’t a lot more.” “We estimated one in 2,500 cases, with older screening technology,” Dr. Randleman said. “I think there’s a good chance that it should be lower. With appropriate screening it will be one in 5,000 or less.” |

What if Ectasia occurs years after the surgery ? There are so many reports about it. Just type 'corneal ectasia after lasik'. You will find several reports on it. Factors known to contribute to ectasia risk include: (a) when a patient's corneal thickness is not sufficient to undergo surgery (or a retreatment) safely but surgery (or a retreatment) is performed anyway; (b) the microkeratome cut a thicker flap than it was programmed to (a regular occurrence, according to studies); and © the patient had a form of keratoconus - forme fruste keratonus - prior to surgery and this was not detected during screening.so... this is what i get.. normally before you want to get lasered you will be test to see whether you are suitable... with thin flap then best avoid lasik that cause estasia This post has been edited by manag3r: Jul 4 2012, 07:59 PM |

Wish there was a risk free procedure to fix eyesight. Have lasik and then constantly worry about getting ectasia, infection, inflammation etc in some point of time.
We misfortunate people who are not blessed with good eyesight are ready to cut our eyes open to get rid of glasses even if it carries serious complication. A person with good eyesight will never understand how it feels to have bad vision and how glasses affect the quality of life. This post has been edited by MyopicEyes: Jul 4 2012, 09:14 PM |

You should worry of dying in a car crash more. Statistics speak for themselves. |

QUOTE(Dayang Salmah @ Jul 4 2012, 05:02 PM) Ermmm already 2 days after my lasik surgery, everything is fine, just that glares and halos r still there during night which is normal... during operation, u won't feel any slight of pain, the most is only pressure on ur eyes when the doctor r creating the flap.. After 2-3 hours from ur operation, u will feel great irritation which makes ur eyes cnt really open and tears keep flowing out, so is better to straight to back to ur home and rest after ur operation.... After that, everything is fine ^^Added on July 7, 2012, 6:30 pm QUOTE(266K @ Jul 4 2012, 12:57 PM) RM 7.3k for mine ( intralasik customized)This post has been edited by Lucas91: Jul 7 2012, 06:33 PM |

8 days. The adjusting of near and at distance is annoying me. Doc confirms my eyes are healthy. Just that it may take slightly longer to get it up and running like before..once awhile, things get clearer...and at times it get blurry. I was told it's normal as the eyes are getting to adjust to it....
Night glare is still there. Sometimes better and sometimes worse... |
