Dunno about your case, but mine install in the upstairs living room, middle of living room, RM170, over the ceiling.
*
RM170 is not bad at all.
RM750 is crazy. I wouldn't want to spend that much just for internet.

What were the charges for actually?
I understand from Maxis that we can get our own technician but I don't even know what kind of cables or methods they use so I don't know how to explain to my technician.
Do you know?

It is recommended to place the modem/router at the main TV cabinet coz more and more TV contents are streaming from the internet. LAN connection is a must for whatever TV box, Media box or Astro IPTV streaming and you don't want to use WIFI to steam TV contents.
As for surfing and work at various spots in a big house, weak wifi signal can be easily solved by adding repeater or home plug.
*
Thanks aeiou!

I read here that the wifi signal is weak.
Since my house is pretty big with many corners, I reckon I would need more than 1 home plug/repeater in order to reach up stairs and all the rooms.

Now with my streamyx modem is at the desk in the upper living room, I can only get 1 bar in the living room downstairs where the tv is, where you suggest me to put the router.
So if I put the Maxis router there, I would get 1 bar at my desk upstairs.
I spend most of my time at the desk for work.

It will cost me another few hundred bucks. Add to the RM750 quotation, I would be spending over 1k.
Even without the repeaters and home plug, at RM750, I can't believe it's so expensive to install internet.
It was totally free with TM. sigh.

Thanks. I think I would need more than 1 in order to reach all the rooms or downstairs.

The TM modem and Maxis router is connected by LAN cable. You can place the TM modem at any spot in your house to reduce the distance charged by installer to the minimum. Then connect the modem and router with Home plug or a long LAN cable.

Where you want to place the router is up to u. You know your house best. My advice is put it at the main TV cabinet. Weak wifi signals can be easily solved by cheap repeater or High gain client AP.

u can pair a few together,.. it suit your situation the best instead of wiring all over the ceiling and paying expensive installation,..

It's safer to say that speed will be throttled, then if it's not, customer will be happy about it.
*
tested so many times, 8.00pm-2.00am, p2p speed limit to 50kB/s

7.59pm still full speed, 8.00pm drop to 50kB/s
1.59am still 50kB/s, 2.00am, it goes back to full speed

happen everyday, maxis home fiber technical team (not customer service) confirmed the same.

so I will terminate the Maxis Fiber, and switch to Unifi once the contract is over.

I can stream HD 1080 video from youtube without any issue on my 10Mbps Maxis FTTH

hi

i have been facing frequent disconnect from almost beginning till now (9 months already)

changed router already 4 times. even the so called new design for thomson (black/white design) also same (last time the router auto reboot, this design disconnect but never reboot)

anyway, today they change the same black/white router again. i make a deal with maxis that if still got same problem, they will give me 2 months free subscription. i can use this money to buy my own router

so my question is

what is your router recommendation? can i still make calls?

thx

Astro just called me packaging IPTV with 20mbps internet for less than 300 per month including all premium channels.
I know its worth it but what are the horror stories with Maxis BB before I jump from UniFi?
Should I just stick with UniFi?

sounds like you have a bad line. Are you on DSL or Fiber? Better get them to fix it correctly, else change router also you might end up with same problem.

Actually not only video streaming, when comes to night time browsing getting slower also. If see the speedtest , usually it takes around 1minute to run a download test , although it shows I have 10mbps speed
