Hi everyone,
I have been using Maxis Fiber for a year already and have been happy with the service (my housemate however isn't with its DotA SG server latency though) .
Lately however, I've noticed that Maxis is starting to trim down access to places like PirateBay and my torrents have been throttled to a dialup crawl.

I would like to telnet access my Thomson router and change its DNS settings to use Google DNS instead. However, the page linked at the start of this thread is a little vague regarding what needs to be set. Especially when their example is for O2 networks and only contains 2 defined DNS servers for their internet connection.

Clearly, our Maxis list of DNS servers is 8 items long and configures access to "eMGMT" and "eVOIP".  So certainly I'm hesitant and having doubts about the website's instructions to just call "dns server route flush" to "Clear" the DNS list.

Is there anywhere in LYT forums where I could refer to of a fellow Maxis Fiber user successfully configuring their router to use Google DNS? Or could any sifu here assist me from not screwing up my connection?

Also, how do I identify if my router is the supposed v3 Thomson routerwhere Maxis has blocked changing the DNS servers?

Thanks.
*
After some careful experimenting, I've successfully added the Google DNS addresses to my router DNS settings. However I'm unsuccessful in removing the pre-configured Maxis DNS server addresses as displayed below.

My internet is still being forced through the censorship DNS as I find that the usual government-censored sites are still inaccessible.
Am I missing something in my configuration? Or am I doomed in 1984 with this locked down router?

I have no choice but to comply if I need internet access.
Hopefully after 1 year I have better options to choose from.

If no voip how to connect? The alarm is using normal phone line. Maxis/Unifi VOIP is consider normal phone line because of the adapter provided by the modem/router.

I think maxis fibre package got free home voice, only no dect phone provided. Except for with astro package, that 1 need additional RM20/month.

Ahhh... so they cannot install it without a phone line la? I tot they can easily connect using internet.

You need to go to unblock-us.com using your pc with your DNS correctly set, do check service, if it is verified, then restart your appletv or from your pc, you'll allow to log into netflix.

Just need to change the DNS, follow the guide found here:

https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2384890&st=631

Basically, just backup your user.ini, edit the user.ini using text editor, change the DNS as per above (for unblock-us, use 208.122.23.22 & 208.122.23.23). Upload back the file .. and reboot your devices ..

My kids usually watched Korean movies/dramas/music videos and most of them are SuperHD, seems smooth, netflix will change the quality if it detected a slow down, automatically, so you will not see if buffering.

I went TM point at Jalan Raja Chulan to report about the issue I faced on last Friday.
The Unifi staff checked and informed me that there are a few active Unifi users in my block.
Now I am really confused. Is there a different port used for Maxis Home Fibre?
Anyway, I submitted an application for Unifi VIP5.
Have to wait and see what will happen next ...

You mention that your place have no Unifi.
So you are stuck with StreamyX 4/8mbps or Maxis.

My advise, stay away from Maxis for the following reason:
1 - If your area Maxis uses TM infra to provide service, everytime there is a problem it will take 2 times longer to fix because they have to escalate to TM and wait TM engineer troubleshoot.
2 - Their international speed (outside malaysia) very bad.
3 - Not possible to get full speed download without using a download manager
4 - TechniColor and Thompson router is a piece of crap
5 - Possible to change router (I have done it) but when ever have problem, they will blame your router
6 - Their 1st level support knows shit about troubleshooting, they only read from manual and doesn't understand technical terms.
7 - They advertise only download speed not upload speed, I have 32mb line. Upload is 15mb only. This is normal they say.
8 - They only provide private IP unless you request and can justify.

I have Unifi Home, UnifiBiz & Maxis Fiber Biz 32mb.
Both my Unifi lines are extremely stable (I use my own router).
I am trying to switch my Maxis to Unifi but currently tied down to a contract.

All other services Maxis provide (SHDSL, Mobile data, Telephony) I have no complains. They just should have not ventured into Fiber is they are not willing to invest in the infrastructure but want to rent from a company who provides the same service. Rumor has it TM always plays with Maxis lines so that users will switch to TM after having so many issues.

I speak based on experience, you might or might not have had the same experience. No prejudice intended.
