QUOTE(ivanswk)
that is my expense i mention in earlier thread

HDB rental (2 bed room) = $2000 (East)
Car installment (2nd hand) = $1100
Food & Groceries = $1500
Occasional nice meals, gifts for kids, hobbies = $500
Parent in law allowance for taking care my son = $1000
Commitment back in Malaysia = $3000
*
He will incur the same expenses in Malaysia, won't he?

The fact is, even if I spend S$1 for every RM I would have spent in KL,.. my remaining S$ savings would be worth 2.5X each RM I save in KL.

IMO, as long as your S$ income is about 0.7 of the RM income, S$1 for RM1, you're pretty much saving more while generally maintaining the same level of lifestyle. (Note that I don't use same "quality" of lifestyle... because some people just place a lot of value on houses rather than condos, and on having wide open spaces to do nothing).

I think $1750 a bit low for shift work. Any other allowances on top of that ?

Are you guys been paid well there ? For example, if you are getting RM10K a month in Malaysia, do you get SDG10K a month there for the same kind of job and duties and responsibilities ? That's my question to you. Please answer truthfully.

never really had a 'proper' job in Msia before, just some temp jobs here and there before working in Sg. I'm totally clueless about the work cultures in Msia but judging from most of the postings here, guess Sg still have an advantage.

My wife was on DP.
After she found a job in SG, her employer applied EP for her.
I forgot what happen to her DP pass (the physical card)... either it was returned to MOM when my wife collected the EP, or I returned it to my company HR.

Thanks for the info.
Found out from HR that if issue LOC for a dependent pass holder, it is tied to the spouse's EP. So if the EP is cancelled, LOC is also cancelled.

Pros working in SG:

- save more money in RM
- more buying power in Malaysia
- better public transport system & environment
- cheaper internet & mobile phone

Cons working in SG:

- your paid will be much less then $3.4k, probably SGD$2.5-2.8k
- quite impossible to own a car in SG
- super high room rental SGD500-1000 (depends location) in Malaysia you could rent a Apartment/House
- working as foreigner in SG (SG ppl always look down on us & discriminate Malaysian)
- much competitive working environment & demanding (may work >12 hours a day, no work life balance)

this 2 points are not valid. Singaporeans look at Malaysians as their brothers or sisters. to them , Malaysian is not that foreign. they only look down on PRC, Pinoy and Bangla.

work environment really depends, many of those here in this forum work less than what you have mentioned. Some even work only 8-12 days per month. can ask Mackiddo to clarify this.

regarding the statement in red
have u been looked down upon directly and how...not including forum rants and others as keyboard warriors are everywhere.
how easy do u think one can really differentiate between a m'sian and singaporean just by appearance
i have been mistaken as a singaporean for numerous times.
at my work place...i think 80-90% are not singaporeans...maybe 5% or less are born a singaporean

Means my decision to stay in Malaysia and work after graduated is right. The main problem is to get a high pay job like 2.5 SGD

is 2.5k high? for freshie definitely yes.

but if u r experienced, then it's not.

it actually boils down to how much is ur expenditure compared to ur income

if u earn 1.7k, expenditure at 1k u can save 700 easily.

but if u earn 3.5k, but u spend 3.2k, u can only save 300.

totally depends on individuals....

Probably most are lucky to join the sector which most are Malaysian and less demanding job. As you mention, your work place majority are Malaysian, who else to discriminate you??

But is really arguable, anyone could be wrong.

Conclusion is really depends what you want & what sector you join.

- more buying power in Malaysia
- better public transport system & environment
- cheaper internet & mobile phone
- People inferior to me do not think they are my Tuan
- safe, low crime
- everything is transparent, low corruption
- my kids can study anywhere they want, be eligible any job they are capable of

Cons working in SG:

- your paid will be much less then $3.4k, probably SGD$2.5-2.8k Forever?
- quite impossible to own a car in SG Have you seen how many cars there are in SG? In terms of % of income, it's actually cheaper now in SG vs then in KL for me
- super high room rental SGD500-1000 (depends location) in Malaysia you could rent a Apartment/House This won't last forever
- working as foreigner in SG (SG ppl always look down on us & discriminate Malaysian)Never truly felt that before. Maybe because I'm in a MNC. Outside work, nobody knows I'm not Singaporean until I start speaking Malay,.. or Mandarin,... or Hokkien
- much competitive working environment & demanding (may work >12 hours a day, no work life balance) Same in MY lah. The SG auditors auditing my company don't work more than I did when I was an auditor in MY

I don't kena discriminatd by any singaporean as some even mistake me as singaporean, so your look down issue is invalid unless you alway offended them with"you singaporean wat wat, i malaysian wat wat" that kind of thing only will make ppl discriminate you, but not malaysian.

work life balance? my work life balance is very good, is depend on one how to manage it.

Last time they look at us differently to separate them from us. Now they are "invaded" by the new batch, so they kind of gang up with Malaysians because we are more similar to resist the so called threat. If everything can go back to normal, start the old way again. You can notice this trend in most things, politics, social circle, work space etc.

To foreigners we are very similar. But to local, Malaysian talk with a different slang, dress different, use different things. A fresh Malaysian can be easily noticeable. For Malaysians we are also different. Say if you are local PG, and u can tell which ppl, say KL, is not from PG. But a foreigner can't tell because they don't know the local culture. Those old one who are infected by local cultures are harder to be differentiate.
