Hey guys lets forget about EAST/WEST Malaysian, we are all malaysian and we all works in Singapore(thats the title of the thread right) as foreigner.

BTW, just bought hdb flat, any suggestion where to get best value furniture and electronics ?

Need those item
Refrigerator
46" LED Tv(Currently looking at Samsung 5500 model
Washing machine
Dining table
Sofa

The rest of not so critical item buy later. I am down to $0 now.
*
buy from JB, you just need to pay RM300 transportation fees + 7% GST, thats it. The furniture price in SG and JB is a dollar to dollar thing. So you still save a lot.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post here as I am not sure where to post. Could anybody help to shed light on this as I have been googling online but no definite answer I have found yet.  rclxub.gif

Now the question is :

For PRs (Permanent Residents), do they need to be physically present in Singapore for 183 days or more in a calendar year prior to renewing their re-entry permits every 5 years? I read somewhere last year on a similar thing but cannot reconfirm or re-verify this as I am now unable to find that particular link. I also read somewhere that a person got his renewal for re-entry permit rejected because he/she was not physically present in singapore 75% of the time, hence the rejection.
*
this doesn't seem valid. I stay in JB and i think i only presentin Singapore 30% of the time. But I still get my PR approve. If they can approve PR for someone staying outside SG.
I dont see a reason why they would reject your REP renewal. I think the main concern is whether you are a tax resident or not. If you are not paying tax and CPF.
Then the gov is not getting any $$ from you hence you are no longer useful to them and they say bye bye to you.

Singapore government, under normal circumstances does not grant PR to non-residence. Perhaps you made a 'false declaration' of your residential address ?  shakehead.gif

all my SG things are under my aunties house address la, but i do know someone from JBtalks forum that get PR and on his IC, its a JB address.

also i heard people telling that doing charity works help as well. I do help SG gov do some charity works some time and i donate blood to their blood bank 3-4 times a year.

For one unopen pack, if they catch u, fine 200. For one carton, 2000, and some smuggling charges. They don't want you to resell the cigarette.

Caught you smoking no SCDP wordings cigarette in SG, fine 200, issue summon. The argument the checkpoint custom let you pass cannot stand.
*
this is only applicable if you were caught smoking in public area. If you smoke in your company compound, before they fine me $200, i fine them 1st for trespassing. true story.

S Pass minimum 2k. You need a decent job to get a PR, not the other way round. Do the job that add value to yourself if possible bah. Don't waste youth by choosing a simple one.
*
i beg to differ, if you got a job in SG, just set ur foot here 1st. because even you are a foreigner, Companies in Singapore prefer to hire foreigners that are working in SG compare to those that are not.
So you can work with $1.6k salary then slowly settle down in SG 1st. After you settle everything, then you can start searching for the job you desire.

Pros working in SG:

- save more money in RM
- more buying power in Malaysia
- better public transport system & environment
- cheaper internet & mobile phone

Cons working in SG:

- your paid will be much less then $3.4k, probably SGD$2.5-2.8k
- quite impossible to own a car in SG
- super high room rental SGD500-1000 (depends location) in Malaysia you could rent a Apartment/House
- working as foreigner in SG (SG ppl always look down on us & discriminate Malaysian)
- much competitive working environment & demanding (may work >12 hours a day, no work life balance)

*
this 2 points are not valid. Singaporeans look at Malaysians as their brothers or sisters. to them , Malaysian is not that foreign. they only look down on PRC, Pinoy and Bangla.

work environment really depends, many of those here in this forum work less than what you have mentioned. Some even work only 8-12 days per month. can ask Mackiddo to clarify this.

No thanks. Is it Aeroline coach?

Anyway, I'm certain DAP will win in Ipoh Timur.

SeanTang will also go back to vote.

The only thing that upset me is some of the Malaysian who are Singapore PR who don't give a damn.

They just tell me they don't care & they are not a registered voter. Ask them why, they just said don't know how to registered or what is the process. Singapore everything they know even though is irrelevant to them! Shameful!
*
OI~ why u like that, a lot SPR here u know... some already settle down here, why would they give a F*ck about Malaysia.

everyone has their choice, if that PR already settle down in Singapore and doesn't have anything in Malaysia other than his Blue IC,
Why would he wants to waste his fuel and time doing something that is not meaningful to him at all. New Indons and Bangla would have
better rights to vote there since they pay Msia tax and live in Malaysia compare to this fellow who is not even there most of his time.

do you know how to buy a motorcycle in singapore? i am curious. if a car need 50% down payment, what about motor?
*
its not easy to get a loan to purchase a bike in SG. I bought mine cash. Asked before those bike shops. all not willing to loan to foreigners.
Even PR they are not gonna loan to you, Unless you have a Singaporean guarantor. Or you are a PR that have a HDB in SG or you have a PR with HDB as your guarantor.

SG selling $30-35k only.

what is diff between Upon submission of each application vs upon issuance request?

Upon submission of each application An administrative fee of $70
Upon issuance request   Personalised Employment Pass – $150 per issue
Upon issuance request      Multiple Journey Visa (if applicable) – $30 per issue

ok my condition is this.
My previous job is P1, after i resign, they cancel my P1 and my new employer have to register a new P1 for me. I feel very troublesome la, so i feel wan apply this PEP so i no nit keep visit MOM and i can freely job hop without problem.

i will b collecting my new EP pass this weekend at MOM, can i submit the PEP form and get registered on this weekend itself?

will there be a new EP card? or i can use back the 1 that i gonna collect this weekend?

thanks
*
upon submission means that time you submit your documents, you pay when you hand in everything. if fail, they will songlap this $$.
upon issuance means after they approved it, you pay when you collect your PEP card.

the cheapest private in SG is around $600K++. Can't qualify for HDB as I am not a PR, even if I am a PR, not a family unit.

the teres house in Puchong also now going for RM 700K++, how to buy ?
*
buy some condo in JB la. its easier to get loan when you work in Singapore and the property is in JB.
some developer offer 10% discount, S&P and loan all bear by them, DIBS somemore. just need to pay 2-10k deposit, thats all.
when the house is ready, just sell it off and u make 30-40%. even after tax u still make a lot of $$.
condos in JB is still around 400k. can make it la. if u die die want landed, then 600-700k lo. normal. if u bought 2 years ago, u can get 400k landed and 200k condo.

Just came to SG last week and my current company isn't that bad. Work is work but if your superior & colleagues are OK then should be no problem. Stress exists everywhere even in Malaysian companies. Depending on the size of the company & the work culture as well but not all are the same.
Haha i signed a contract with agent laugh.gif so don't think I will be forced out.
If i go back then can buy tau sar pneah

early morning already start spam... spam in Whatsapp la. here no good spaming. later mod ban u.

Btw, just to share on my case, when i work in KL, my employer consider quite good, not much stress but only a krony style local construction company.
COlleagues are good but company very kedekut, always here cut cost there cut cost, 8 years old computer also want to fix and not buy a new one.

When i move to SG, manage to get into an MNC, the situation is totally different and I like it a lot better. Benefits are good, company facilites is fantastic.
work culture is also good, less stress since American company doesn't really want their workers to do OT as it is not good for health.

QUOTE(xtylish @ Apr 20 2013, 09:23 PM)
so my kind malaysian koliks are being kind enough to share how they plan for their future. from what i gather,

i should save at least $800 every month.

and then buy a property in Malaysia.

and buy  saving insurance,

because I don't have CPF (she said to cover my backside)

and it is definitely worth it to work in SG compared to KL.

I am still digesting and I couldn't see my future.

I know most elites here will laugh it off, but this i am just from a low paid freshgrad in SG from Malaysia.

I certainly cannot afford to buy any property or drive any car in SG. I am still searching for for a way to settle down psychically and mentally in SG.

is there anything else that i need to know or prepare myself for?
*
CPF can be obtain once u get your PR in SG la. Since you already have plans to settle down here. There is no nid to worry about CPF since eventually you will become a PR and will have your own CPF savings.

Regarding the fresh grad thingy, I am not even grad la, holding STPM only and working in a factory drawing $1.6k+OT. staying in JB also manage to get PR. you just need to know when is the time to apply and u can get it easily.

I don't think i can get PR. the chances is way too low. and i also read some posts that ppl are actually avoiding CPF?

and my colleagues also told me that we can never withdraw our CPF 100%. guess that the money will go your kids in the future.

so what if i don't have kids?
*
if you plan to buy a house in SG, you would definitely need the CPF. and employer is contributing 16% of your salary to your CPF account. so indirectly you are getting a 16% pay raise.
CPF can be use to pay your housing monthly installment in SG. Unlike Malaysia. Property interest is lower here as well.

for an example, you earn $3k per month, your Partner also $3k. The monthly amount that will go to your CPF account is $1080.

23% of your salary will go to your ordinary account which can be use to pay installment. Hence you will have $690. Your Partner also will have $690 in his CPF.

So if you buy a 400k HDB, monthly installment is around $1.6k for example. You only need to top up $220 monthly to pay for your housing installment.

Minus the amount you actually paying the rental now, You still save more money. So PR is a MUST if you really think of settling down.

Unless you are those type that want to save a chuck of $$ here then go back Msia do business, then you don't have to apply.

Regarding the other 2 accounts in CPF.

7% goes to Medisave which is for your medical expenses if you need it.

6% goes to your Special account for old age.
