Greetings to all the shifus here  notworthy.gif ...

Newbie here trying to learn detailing...

Been reading thru this thread V2 since yesterday... long way more to go as i'm still @ pages 24 haha.

Been talking to bro Quazacolt in PM, been grateful to him as he provides me with alot of basic informations and tips since i'm a newbie.

Some questions to ask here....if one could share his opinions or advices i would be really grateful  rclxms.gif

1. I'm getting a new car or shifus here calling it a truck as it's a Toyota Hilux Vigo. Been reading to gain some basic knowledge to learn how to protect my new car. As i will be travelling to East Malaysia soon... will need to prepare all the tools and detailing products needed .

Wanted to ask for new car, i was planning to :-

WASH/DRY

Clay [Do i need to clay since it's a new car?]

Polish [Dont think i need to polish a new car unless there's scratches?]

Apply Permanon Sealant

then is it recommended if i topper my Permanon with Wax? [I was told not to from the official recommendation and instead use Optimum Instant Detailer]

and lastly doing regurlay wash at least 2 times a week to maintain the car.

Am i skipping any steps or doing any unncessary steps? hopefully shifus here can light me up. Cheers!  thumbup.gif

Clay & Polish - In my book, clay is a must before doing any polishing even if you don't see any embeded dirt. And I do suggest you still do a light polish even if you don't see any 'scratches'. You wouldn't know how long the car had been stored in an open field and how much contaminants it had 'sucked up'. A light claying and polish would remove any embeded dirt and 'deep clean' the surface and would make the sealant/wax of your choice perform better.

Since you mentioned Optimum, why don't you go for Optimum Car Wax instead of the OID. Not much use of the OID except for after a wash to spruce up a little bit of shine, and also, it won't lay down much of a protection on the paint. A spray sealant/wax like Optimum Car Wax, Megs Ultimate Quick Wax, Duragloss Aquawax, etc. is something good to have in hand for a quicky topping-up when you notice the protection is deteriorating.

Oh...may I also suggest you get something for those plastic deck, trims, steps, etc...that lorry of yours have lots of plastic/vinyl. A water-based/spray on dressing that can be diluted would be very suitable, just spray on and wipe evenly...something like Duragloss 321 Non Silicone Dressing or the like.

Hi all,

Are there any good/reputable Car Detailers around Klang or Damansara area? I'm looking to clay, polish & wax my car. Budget will be no more than RM500. Preferably somewhere around 200-300+ if its possible.

Thanks. smile.gif

Speaking of exterior trim dressings and protectants, what's a good product to recommend? My car has a fair bit of black plastics as well, I just lay OCW on them but I think its time to lay some product which is more worthwhile smile.gif

KrisMas those 3M blue masking tape, i found them, and bought them... rm100+ moneyflies.gif gone lol (bought 1" and 1.5" respectively)

supposedly low adhesive and can be stuck on 60days without leaving residue/harming surface, so should be damn gentle on automotive to go crazy on it (like 2-3 layers just for extra guarantee? lol) without much care tongue.gif

I always am amazed by how those detailers can clean the engine so well.

So I got to this:

Is this method recommended? I finally figure out the shinny thingy part out when he starts spraying trim shine on the engine.

Wow....but, good investment, cuz so far haven't had any issues with adhesive residue or taking the paint along when removing with those 3M blue or green tapes. Expensive, but I think it's 60m so it's gonnago a long way....

I don't see anything wrong with the video. He's covered all the basics. You might want to have some brushes or rags for any stubborn/cacked in areas and brush/wipe them before the hose-down. Now, this is VERY IMPORTANT! REMEMBER ALL THE PLACES YOU'VE COVERED WITH THE ALUMINIUM FOIL AND MAKE SURE YOU REMOVED THEM ALL BEFORE STARTING THE CAR.

Oh...and check out Megs Hyperdressing. Spray on when still wet, close the lit, start the engine, open the bonnet after 5 minutes and watch how shiny the engine become after it dries.....hahaha

What other alternative for Meg Hyperdressing? It looks like Hyperdressing is professional range item.

yeap agree. and from the looks of it as i don't think i'll be correcting my car (or many cars, for that matter) i think it'll pretty much last me the entire lifetime of my hobby LOL!
so yeah, it's a pretty decent investment. (and i can use it for other masking requirements, anyways)

btw what's the difference between:
- hyper dressing
- all season dressing
- silicone free dressing

looks like hyper dressing is good for both interior/exterior, and can go from high gloss to satin shine dependent on minimal 1:4 ratio to 1:10?

oh ya what is the recommended dilution ratio for super de-greaser?

Sorry. Don't know of any equivalent/alternative. Get a gallon and share la. I think Kecik Jb in 'the group' sells them quite cheap. If not can get from 'you-know-who' la.

- hyper dressing - water based
- all season dressing - silicone based and it's more like Megs GC Endurance
- silicon free dressing - don't know much about this one.

Oh...btw Hyperdressing's dilution is between 1:1~4

For SD, like I said, I normally use 1:10 on everything. If one application not enough then I'd rather go for another round instead of using a stronger dilution. But for engine, especially those that aren't that well maintained, I'd start with 1: 5~8. JFYI, SD at 1:4 is really wicked. On tires, you'd immediately see brown residue being dissolved and dripping down, on wheels you'd see the dirt and brake dust (those loose ones) being 'dislodged' and flowing down, on undercarriage all you'd need is just to spray it and you'd see the whole underside turning brown and dripping everywhere on the floor, PW wash and all is done....minimal scrubbing needed. But, at the price that we are paying for it, 1:10 had performed well enough for me personally...no need to overdo and 'waste'....

ok another hyper dressing gallon for me (i can really consider doing part time detailing now brows.gif)
once i get a machine ill start with some of the richer relative who's willing to spend, and can play on their cars to gain experience biggrin.gif

from the way you described, SD seems like a damn aggressive cleaner/solvent haha.
i'll probably play it safe and go with 1:10 like you said. My engine bay condition is decently maintained because it just gotten rebuilt after all LOL
even without the rebuild, previously i also use toilet paper to wipe down dirt/oil/carbon whenever i spot them anyways.

much thanks for your replies as always notworthy.gif

Just want to check with you sifus on Optimum Power Clean.

I'm using a dilution ratio of 3:1 for OPC and sometimes I use it to clean the grime off the rubber wipers (maybe once every 3 washes and even less if the car hasn't gone thru rain), then wash it off with shampoo. Is OPC safe for the rubber wipers?

Thanks

OPC is safe for rubber, provided that you rinse off thoroughly.

Hmm Harvey Norman comes with standard 2 years warranty, however pricing is pretty "standard" too sad.gif http://twitpic.com/cz01ss
thinking of getting one of these someday for interior cleaning

The higher model k2.350(and 2.360) are made in China, 440/540 respectively. Cheaper 2.120 is from Germany @ 350 lol http://twitpic.com/cz027z

just bought the Karcher K2.120 lol, this should make cleaning an even easier job tongue.gif or cleaner if i still wanna do a second scrub down with wash mitt/sponge

i think all's that left really, is a trip down Singapore for a DA/rotary machine (or maybe a brand new makita for around 800 locally... hmm.)

May I suggest a wet/dry vacuum instead. The 'wet extractor' might come in handy in the future...

hmm what's a good portable one (similar to the dyson) then?
http://www.karcher.com/int/Products/Home__...um_cleaners.htm
Karcher doesn't have portable ones though

btw for the cleaning agent hose, do you use shampoo in neat or diluted?
