that's very useful to know. I haven't tried to reach 160 with S mode. Reaching 120 in S mode, the rev sound, RPM meter indicator and the live oil consumption indicator pushes me to quickly switch to D (hahaha). should try and see.

Yes, after I tried a few times, I give up. Maybe others can get used to the manual shifting buttons, but for me, I just can't get a hang of it. Personally I believe both S and D have covered all driving conditions. As a matter of fact, D is good for all driving conditions, S for more power on tap in more demanding conditions such as going up a steep slope up Genting Highlands, or the need to overtake a big truck or bus on small 2 lanes single carriageways eg. road connecting Bidor to Tapah town.
Hah, perhaps the speed was lower than 160km/h. At that specific speed, the needle on the speedometer is not going up any higher even though force is exerted on the pedal. Even though the speed goes up, the acceleration is at a slow pace. And the rpms are high. Hence, I believe S mode is only useful for low to mid-end acceleration say from 0 to 120km/h. In order to continue accelerating to higher speeds, we need to switch out from S mode to D.
*
In S mode, left in auto (not using the manual buttons) your 6-speed gearbox switches off the 6th gear, so you only have 5 gears. Which is why the top speed will be lower and the revs are higher, because it is stuck in 5th gear.

Interesting. May I ask if this information is mentioned anywhere in some document or brochure? That explains why the transmission is stuck in S5(presumably 5th gear) when S mode is used. It won't upshift to S6 no matter how much force is exerted to the pedal, and it's just the rpms that will go up, the speed reaching a plateau at the upper limit of 5th gear. Only when the + button on the gear lever is pressed then the transmission upshifts S6.

Even in S6(6th gear in S mode), I felt that the rpms are higher than when the transmission is in D at any given speed. Hence, I believe that high speed cruising is more appropriate in D as the revs are higher in S mode even when the vehicle is in the highest gear, the 6th gear. It seems like there is an upper limit in 6th gear that is preventing the vehicle from achieving higher speed. Or to put it in another perspective, it is as if there is an "imaginary" 7th gear in D that enables the vehicle to achieve higher speed when it is in D.

I'm not a Focus owner (yet brows.gif ), but I was researching into the car for my next car, I'm driving a Fiesta at the moment which have some similarities. If you haven't read this, here is what I found at the Focusfanatics forum.

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267447

It seems most owners agree with this

QUOTE
S mode does not allow 6th gear, until you press the upshift button yourself to go to 6th.

I am also guessing if you are going fast enough you can FORCE it to go into 6th (by redlining the engine), but only to protect the gearbox.

The speed and RPM ratio is fixed for any given gear, that is to say: if you reach 2.2k RPM at 110km/h in 6th gear, you will ALWAYS get 2.2k RPM at 110 km/h at 6th gear. The only way the RPM can become higher is that it stays in 5th gear or lower nod.gif

But if you're cruising in highway, best to just leave it in D. From what I have tested, in D mode the gearbox is responsive enough for any overtaking action.

so you had yours applied with the new update and asked them to check for possible leakage?
*
The leakage is internal; notably from the DCT to the clutches, so it's not really possible to see any "visible" signs of leak unless it's really bad or taken apart. Also, many of the SCs here don't diagnose the problem using the current TSB but some do replace the clutches directly if the software update doesn't resolve it.

As for the update, I haven't updated mine as the SC wasn't having the latest firmware when I went for my last service.

Guys,
After the software upgrade, no more juddering from the car. Somehow the car increase the acceleration pace during low gear. Just a light pedal press from idle to moving you will feel the difference. Also a red light stripe is turned on near the sunglasses compartment during night time.

Which SC did you receive the update & can I know the version used - there have been several versions since the FoFo Mk3 had been launched so it's best to know that the version number being used.

Tried already, but could not get into diagnostics mode after pressing OK right buttom and START button simultaneously.... am i doing it wrong?
*
bro, follow these steps carefully :-

1) while the car is off, hold the OK button on the right of the steering
2) while holding the OK button, press the START button without pressing the brake
3) after 5-10 seconds, the words TEST should appear on your screen - remember to hold the OK button until this happens.

I was just wondering who is the lady who is driving this Ford Focus Sports in Midnight Sky blue. Truly a gutsy lady. I have received the video on my mobile yesterday, and apparently the Chinese media had published this news several days ago. It is only now the article was published by The Star online.

Does it happen that the lady in the video is the wife or girlfriend of any forummers here? Great work and effort. It was an embarrassment for the robber who got bashed up badly.

For those who didn't have the video, below are some image stills from the video. In the final stages of the video clip(not shown in the images here), the lady continued to bash the guy up who is lying on the ground before the other guy on the motorbike comes to the rescue with a knife.

Some quarters questioning whether the whole thing was a fake or real. If it's a fake, what is the purpose of the stage? Having said that, I noticed the auto gate stops closing when the thief entered through it. Does some auto gates have sensors? I thought most if not all auto gates will continue to close even though people may walk through the gates.

I'm already on EEPROM 24.204 since I purchased my car in July 2013 - no updates made so far but still having the grinding sound on Gears 1 & 2.

I may be wrong but we might be seeing the wrong software instead; the transmission calibration update may only be checked with an IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System; unlike the OBD2 scanner which is only a reader, this is also a writer) that is available at the SC.

If you see TSB 13-9-4, it mentions the following :-

"Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM)/transmission control module (TCM) module to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 86.01 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com."

If anyone can verify or share with us on how we can identify the transmission calibration update by ourselves - that would be excellent. In the meantime, let's continue to google & also see if we could get this info from any of the SC people.

UPDATE:-

After some research, I managed to retrieve the following info :-

All about IDS - a must read to all Focus enthusiast

How to update the Calibration software via IDS

How to check Calibration version for Mondeo (should be same with Focus)

Latest available - IDS 87.03 (requires 87.01)

DO REMEMBER TO ONLY PERFORM ANY OF THESE UPDATES THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER ELSE YOU MAY EITHER VOID YOUR WARRANTY OR POSSIBLY DAMAGE YOUR VEHICLE.
