Hi Asusmy,

The wireless router provided by Maxis (Huawei brand - but the wifi name is ThomsonXXXXX) is really bad as it doesn't cover the upstairs & front of the house which is where my room is. The router is located at the downstairs & back of the house, and the distance between back and front is about 30-feet (approximately).

I just recently bought a repeater from Aztech and it's a complete waste of money as it did not provide any sort of additional coverage at all. I'm OK with using wifi repeaters as long as I can watch Youtube videos and surf net .

My questions are:
1) Can Asus support Maxis FTTH/replace the router provided by them?
2) How good is the wireless coverage of the Asus router as I've not been able to get any information on this.
3) Do I need to pair a repeater with the wireless router or is the router good enough?

Thanks! I've had enough of surviving on 3G in my room. sad.gif

no wireless router can support whole house and double storey, you should take walls into consideration instead of just distance. plus you placed your router at the back of your house which is not appropriate.

re-location router + homeplug, should be the solution. forget about wireless repeater.

1. high frequency = high speed = less converage, low frequency = low speed = wide coverage

2. get a 5/8 port switch(gigabit), connect it with 1 of the router port, then you'll have extra port to use.

Hi all,

need help, my company is using UNIFI with one fixed IP address, i just bought a Asus RT-N12 D1 to replace my problem TM router... but while i tried to setup the UNIFI on the router, i failed to do it. For the existing TM router, we will set one fixed IP address on it, then another fixed IP address on the server. But on RT-N12 D1, it not allowed me to do that.
My RT-N12 D1 firmware: 3.0.0.4.374.813
my existing TM router ip: 123.123.123.110
my existing server ip: 123.123.123.111
both subnet mask: 255.255.255.252

Remark: at the same time, i also need to allow users to use the WIFI

anyone know how to set for the UNIFI fixed ip address? please help...

thank you

my current maxis fibre + wifi is having high latency (30+ms to google) ..

will i be able to reduce the latency by replacing the router+adapter or just the adapter alone will do?

or will calling maxis solve the problem? I hate dealing with them, so if anyone changed the default router had reduced latency i would like to hear from you.

over wifi - 30ms to google - that seems normal. Maybe switching to a 5GHz connection might reduce it a bit (to 25-28ms perhaps).

I personally don't think you can improve much. That's just the nature of Wi-Fi. You're better off just using a LAN cable instead of spending money on equipments to improve latency.

That's not entirely true. Over at work, the usb adapter is just a cheapo Tenda usb. It achieves 7ms averagely. It's on unifi with default router.

It can be alot of things which i havent have time to test. It could just be maxis vs unifi, which i could just assume it's the router+modem they supply which is far worst than unifi's one.

What is the latency you get when ping to router IP address (Maxis is 192.168.1.254)?

I too get about 30ms ping to Google. But my ping over wifi to Maxis router (192.168.1.254) is 1-2ms.
However the ping to next hop in ISP network is about 28ms. Seems like the poor latency is coming from the network side.

Didn't notice any improvement when testing with RT-AC66U. I'm on TM VDSL access, how about you?

I get the same thing ! Except that when i do traceroute, all of it timed out which i can't figure what's up. But ping to router is same as yours, and ping to google avg 30ms.

That's it im going to call maxis to sort it out. Let's hope they give me a trained technician and not a high school girl that ask me to on off the dang router.
