Of course not....it all or nothing.... problem is, most people can't get enough points to redeem enough miles to get long haul j tickets....you can of course redeem y class or short haul j....but it's not as attractive as long haul j.....

General rule is to fly long haul business/first class to get the best out of your miles.

For example, KL-London

Economy - 60-70k miles for return (worth RM3k++)
Business - 200k miles for return (worth RM15-20k)

Anyone tried the MH upgrade and then it happen that there is an aircraft switch from wide body to B737? Because the price difference is huge and product on offered is vastly different (i.e. lie flat vs recliner).

very seldom aircraft switch to smaller plane, because wide body take more people ie more tickets sold.
