wow, u are using G-550, how is it? look ur spec also high-end, can support HD7950?
Seasonic G-550 semi modular, right? saw jonnyguru having 9.2 score, so nice.  smile.gif
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=...Story6&reid=373

My PC spec:
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2
MB:Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 socket1155
RAM: Kingston DDR3 8GB 1600mhz KVR16N11/8 X 2 unit (16GB RAM)
SSD: Intel 120GB SSD 320 series
HHD: WD 1TB Blue Hardisk
DVD:Liteon DVDRW ROM
Sound: ASUS Xonar Essence STX PCIe Sound Card
VGA: Sapphire HD 6750 1GB DDR5

using 4-5 years old Acbel 510W PSU, already old model.
wanna upgrade my VGA card to R9 380 or GTX 970, and look for single +12V rail.  smile.gif

hmm.gif Even a 650W is pretty overkill for most single GPUs (with the notable exception that you are going to overclock 290/290X)... brows.gif

Anyway, the G-650 is aplenty for most single GPU setups. Heck even a quality 550W unit can power them up pretty easily with some room to spare. icon_idea.gif

The HD7950 is a pretty high-end card back then - now it's more or less a mid-range card... laugh.gif

My PSU is pretty much silent, with no issues such as coil whine. It's a fantastic unit, with high quality components. icon_idea.gif

I'm planning my rig now and am contemplating on the viability of having a long-term PSU solution, together with the casing.

Suppose that I go straight to reputable models like the Seasonic S12G Gold, is it realistic me to foresee using it for the next 5 years and counting? That would mean just like Casing, re-using them even I upgrade my specs 2-3 times in the future?

If a PSU can be something like that, I would consider significantly increasing my budget. If it's something that is 'buy and throw', might as well get Hexa+.

Nope. No issue here. Even overclocked and crossfired HD7870 and HD4870 with that.

Erm... it is a semi modular unit. You can detach some of the cables, but not all of them. icon_idea.gif

Just to add:
(i) there won't be any OC-ing for this rig. I plan to run stock throughout the years.
(ii) I'll leave at least 20% allowance to total capacity.

Thanks in advance!

Quality comes at a price. With USD going up plus GST, it is even higher.

Just wanted some light into this question form senior LYN forumers, is 11.75-11.88 on the 12V rail normal? I thought it should be something like 12.1-12.3? I'm worried it will damage my hardwares on the long run... unsure.gif

As long as it is within 5% tolerance (maximum is 5%+- on ATX spec), it should be fine.

Hello, can someone recommend me psu for my system? only using it for gaming.

i5 4690k 4.0@1.08v
Gigabyte Z97 mobo
AMD 7850 (planning to upgrade to 290x)
2 7200rpm hard disk
5 fans

I am currently using FSP Hexa 500w. It is working fine and quiet but I would like to upgrade my psu so I can change my gpu later.

budget around RM370, prefer semi modular or full modular.

thanks!

Thinking of building a gaming rig. So i'd like to save as much $ as possible, i have a XFX 750W modular PSU i bought 4-6 years ago(i don't remember), is it still safe to use a psu that old? Because by not having to buy another PSU, i would save at least rm300-500.

Appreciate all the input

The Q&A thread was closed, so I ask here:

I see my motherboard has two ATX power cables. One is 24pin, another is 8 pin.

Does that mean my motherboard requires me to plug 8pin also?
Mobo requires that much voltage ah...

I think you mean the EPS 4+4 pins for CPU?

Yeah, the normal configuration is 4 pins or 8 pins for high end mobo which expected to be overclocked heavily.

In short, whether you should plug in 4 pins or 8 pins depend on the CPU configuration. Power guzzle and heavy overclocked probably need the 8 pins.
